This paper offers a reflection on so-called “inclusive education” beginning with a brief terminological review of the topic and an analysis of a sample of grammar textbooks currently used in lower secondary schools in Italy. The aim is to investigate the choices made in terms of content selection, teaching strategies, and tools presented in sections dedicated to inclusive education, in order to propose concrete suggestions for designing accessible materials for all types of learners.
This paper presents and discusses a recent tool for the linguistic integration of migrants and refugees: the MOOC One Step Forward, developed within the framework of the European project INCLUDEED. The MOOC is available in six languages (Italian, English, French, German, Portuguese, and Spanish) and is notable for its focus – through videos and online activities – on the communicative and pragmatically effective use of language, as well as on the learning of sociocultural information useful for everyday interaction, aspects often overlooked by more traditional tools.
The paper intends to deepen the existing relationships between a popular education perspective and the development of educational and social work with Roma and Sinti communities in peripheral contexts, trying to deconstruct a marginal and marginalizing narrative, recovering the transformative force inherent in the physical but also symbolic, social, and above all political margins. Such reflection is necessarily rooted in the intercultural perspective, through which it is appropriate to read the relationships between people and groups, the result of power relations and processes of coloniality, and to design decolonial educational, training and social and political resistance pathways that are intrinsically dynamic and plural. For this reason, two significant experiences carried out in different territories will be examined, involving not only Roma and Sinti communities in processes of emergence from conditions of marginalization and social exclusion, but, within a fully intercultural and intersectional perspective, call into question a plurality of broader subjectivities, in a close and necessary relationship with the surrounding territory and with the broader goal of building greater social equity and full democratic participation.
This contribution starts from the description of the slow process of building a collective memory in relation to the past of persecution and extermination of the Roma and Sinti people. The genocide of this population struggles to fit into the definition of public memory of a Nation, but also of the majority collective memory. Rather, it is a community memory, which is born, consolidates and survives in particular thanks to orality and the fundamental role of art. In the essay I propose, the Pedagogy of Recognition, as a necessary construction of a shared space for discussion and narration in a multidisciplinary educational context, appears as the only solution to the condition of strong ghettoization and social stigmatization suffered by the majority of the Roma and Sinti community. In this context, the analysis takes into consideration the TRACER project, as an example of a European action-research project, built in reference to the concepts of the Pedagogy of Recognition and full participation of young Roma and Sinti in the activities, ending with a look at the ability of some professional stories to point the way towards pedagogical paths.

Scattering journeys, regenerative environments. A material ecocritical reading of the diasporic storyworld in Shaun Tan’s refugee graphic novel The Arrival
Pushed out of time, place, and history, refugees are typically imagined as humanitarian subjects whose lives are marked by exclusion and constitutive otherness. Thought of as objects of pity, but also as disrupters of an established order, forcibly displaced people are imprinted by a logic of compassion, passivity, and aberration. Literature, however, provides an alternative site for the representation of refugeedom as an empowering experience that enables the formulation of a different sense of self as well as creative human-environmental interactions. This article will focus on the locations where such interactions take place by examining the foreign cityscape in Shaun Tan’s refugee graphic novel The Arrival (2006). Unlike traditional representations of the new land as a place of loss, dispersal, and powerlessness, Tan’s illustrations portray the host city as both a tangible and imagined space of diversity, where inter- and intra-specific interactions play a crucial role in the protagonist’s physical and personal journey. Through a material ecocritical lens, the article examines how the matter of the book, both living and non-living, tells a story of successful adaptation and home building thanks to the protagonist’s capacity to establish a sense of intimacy with the nonhuman world that surrounds him. In conclusion, the apparently unhomely city portrayed by Tan is ultimately the setting of an alter-tale, that is, an alternative narrative in which the interrelationship between the refugee and the material entities that inhabit the land of arrival opens up unexpected possibilities for the displaced to experience not much the scattering as the regenerative potential of refugeedom
Manipulative Matchmaking - A Legal and Ethical Assessment of Addictive AI Design in Dating Apps
This paper examines the deployment of manipulative and addictive design patterns in AI-driven dating applications, with particular attention to their legal treatment under the EU Artificial Intelligence Act and the European Convention on Human Rights. It argues that platforms such as Tinder and Hinge utilise emotionally persuasive interface features, ranging from gamified reward systems to algorithmic opacity, that condition user behaviour and compromise decisional autonomy. Drawing on behavioural science, affective computing, and platform governance literature, this article evaluates how manipulative design features in dating apps interfere with rights protected by Article 8 of the ECHR, particularly in relation to informational self-determination and psychological integrity. In parallel, it examines whether such systems could fall within the scope of prohibited manipulative AI under Article 5(1)(a) of the EU AI Act. Through the case study of the 2024 Match Group litigation and an analysis of cumulative design harms, the article contends that dating apps are not merely high-risk AI systems but may, under certain conditions, constitute prohibited AI. It concludes by calling for an intimacy-sensitive framework of algorithmic accountability, capable of addressing structural behavioural manipulation in emotionally charged digital contexts.
Governing (Socio)Materialities at the Intersection of STS and Internet Governance: Hybridization as a Product of Necessity
In the last years, a rich literature has emerged at the intersection of Internet Governance as a field of study and Science and Technologies Studies. This Scenario retraces the complex social and technical historical developments that favored the integration of these two fields. This hybridization process can be described as a “product of necessity” – a descriptive label highlighting how the integration of STS concepts responded to evolving analytical challenges. It is delineated through a reconstruction in three phases, whose aim is to describe key intersections and to capture the ongoing trends within the Internet Governance community. The analysis shows that the first “turn to infrastructure” (Bowker et al. 2010) in the 2010s oriented scholarly interest towards materialities and protocols of the Internet as information infrastructure, thus favoring the study of its “control points” (Musiani et al. 2016). On the other hand, today’s focus on geopolitical competition and informal governance practices provokes renewed interest in the social and situated components of the Internet infrastructure, such as imaginaries, contestations, and reappropriations. The Scenario finally discusses possible future approaches and research interests
