This article reports the experience of the reorganization and inventorying of the library of the Filiberto and Bianca Menna Foundation - Center for the Study of Contemporary Art, located at the former Casa del Combattente in Salerno. The personal collection of Filiberto Menna, art critic and politically active intellectual, constitutes the main nucleus of the Foundation, established in 1989 following his death. The recent reorganization, which took place in 2024, represents an opportunity to include this important book collection in the broad debate regarding ‘author libraries’. First of all, an analysis of the contents of the forty shelves that make up the library was conducted, organizing a schematic work in which, for each shelf, the location and bibliographic information of each book unit are reported. The analysis of the material allowed us to restore Filiberto Menna’s interests, the creation and evolution of his critical thinking. The notes of ownership and the handwritten annotations present in the volumes outline an attentive reader, who loved to note down the suggestions that the texts aroused in him. Finally, an in depth analysis is reported regarding the notes of ownership and the dedications present within the book units, reported in the “Notes” section of the inventory work. The following article also presents the complete list of dedications in the appendix.
Bioactivity profiling of mycelial extract of Volvariella volvacea (Bull.) Singer (paddy straw mushroom) from the Philippines
Volvariella volvacea (paddy straw mushroom) is an edible and nutritious mushroom. This study highlights the chemical compositions, antioxidant, antibacterial, and teratogenic activities of mycelial extracts of the V. volvacea (PQ671094 and PQ671093) isolates from San Jose and La Union, Philippines. The molecular identities of mushrooms were confirmed using the ITS region of rDNA. Mycelia of both isolates contained essential oil, sugar, and coumarin. Phenol, fatty acid, anthrone, and alkaloid were detected only in La Union isolate, whereas flavonoid was only found in San Jose isolate. San Jose mycelial extract recorded radical scavenging activity (RSA) of 81.34%, whereas La Union mycelial extract had 79.69% RSA. In disc-diffusion assay, only La Union isolate extract exhibited antibacterial activity with a diameter zone of inhibition of 10.49 mm against Staphylococcus aureus. In both extracts, 100% mortality of zebrafish embryos was registered at 10000 ppm extract at 12-hour post-treatment exposure (hpte), and at 1000 ppm extract at 48-hpte, indicating that extract concentration and time exposure dependent. Embryos at 10 ppm to 100 ppm extract of both isolates significantly decreased the hatchability, while embryos exposed to 1 ppm to 100 ppm extract showed lower heartbeat rates. Teratogenic effects, including tail malformation, head malformation, yolk deformity, pericardial oedema, reduced pigmentation, and delayed growth, were observed at 10 ppm and 100 ppm of both extracts. Altogether, V. volvacea mycelia contain mycochemicals and exhibit antioxidant, antibacterial and teratogenic properties
L’opera d’arte come strumento di lotta. Dentro e fuori Isola Art Center
This study examines the experience of Isola Art Center, which originated in Milan in 2001 with Isola Art Project, as a paradigmatic case of socially engaged and participatory art. Departing from traditional models of exhibition and artistic reception, the project positions itself as an active tool of political and social resistance against urban gentrification. Through a dense network of relationships among artists, residents, urban planners, and institutions, Isola Art Center generated innovative practices and concepts—such as the dirty cube and fight-specific art—that call for a rethinking of conventional aesthetic and methodological frameworks within art historical analysis. In this context, the artwork becomes part of a broader cultural ecosystem, where relational dynamics, territorial conflicts, and forms of participation redefine both the role of the artist and the meaning of artistic creation. The study adopts a multidisciplinary and site-specific approach to explore the intersections between art and society, challenging the boundaries between the inside and outside of the art world and offering a reading that integrates aesthetics, politics, and practice.
Beginning with a natural renewal of archival practice, the late XXth century saw the emergence of a series of “new” archives that inevitably challenged the traditional discipline. One kind of archive, in particular, seems to have gone to meet the general need, which has affected contemporary art and society, to encourage the active participation of citizens, or rather the community, in the creation, transmission and preservation of their memory. Archives of this kind, called participatory archives, present innovative characteristics, such as the heterogeneity of the materials, very often on digital format, the absence of the archival bond and of the archivist’s figure, but what allows their birth is a precise voluntary act from the community of reference, now in the front row in the attempt to leave a trace of its own past.
This paper therefore aims to describe participatory and community archives, starting with the definition of the role and meanings of community and memory, and then proposing a case of a participatory archive in Italy, the Archivio Sonoro di Comunità in San Cesario (LE).A partire da un naturale rinnovamento della pratica archivistica, la fine del XX secolo ha visto la nascita di una serie di “nuovi” archivi che hanno messo inevitabilmente in crisi la disciplina tradizionale.
Ghost in the Machine: Daily Interaction with Ephemeral Computing
The aim of this paper is to examine the phenomenon of the progressive spectralisation of the physical world, which involves a growing habit of contactless interaction. Indeed, the computerisation of domestic and social environments is almost complete. To realise this project of ubiquitous “spatial computing”, technology companies are converging on the development of wearable tools, mostly augmented reality (AR) glasses. While wearing them, users manipulate responsive but intangible objects that they “evoke” and that can appear ghostly from a distance. The interactive images of smart glasses are not concrete: they are digital entities that appear on the user’s lenses and respond to their voice commands and movements thanks to pattern recognition algorithms. Characterised by an unprecedented level of responsiveness, AR is a form of “total cinema” made up of 3D images that inhabit physical contexts. I will therefore refer to AR as a contemporary example of a portable phantasmagoric dispositif, a technology that involves the coexistence of people and images in the same space in real time. Finally, I will argue that, while the physical dimension is undergoing a progressive “ghostification”, it is not being replaced: in order to function, wearable technologies must be innervated in a human body, integrating eyes, hands, feet and emitted sounds as essential components for their operation. The current trend in technology, then, is to replace the touch revolution with a deeper performative turn that involves the user from head to toe

The Growing Role of the International Court of Justice as a Field of Lawfare: Perils and Prospects
The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has seen a sharp rise in cases, reflecting both increased reliance on judicial mechanisms and a strategic shift in how states use the Court. While some cases solely aim to resolve legal disputes, particularly in territorial and immunity matters, others—especially those involving politically charged conflicts—suggest a broader function. In such cases, litigation serves as a tool for shaping international narratives, exerting diplomatic pressure, and reinforcing legal norms rather than achieving a definitive legal resolution. This article examines the ICJ’s evolving role as a forum for lawfare, where legal proceedings utilized to advance political, moral, or diplomatic goals. It assesses whether this instrumentalization aligns with the ICJ’s foundational purpose or necessitates a reassessment of its role in international dispute settlement framework. The article, after analysing the definitional discussion on lawfare and tracing its evolution from military strategy to broader international law applications, explores how the ICJ has become a battleground for lawfare, particularly in disputes under the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination and the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. Next, it weighs benefits and risks of such a utilization, contrasting views on norm reinforcement with concerns over politicization. The article concludes by examining how differing conceptions of the ICJ’s function may shape perspectives on lawfare’s impact on the ICJ’s legitimacy and role in global governance
Framing Sustainability in Ethical Fashion: A Lexicometric Analysis of French Brand Communication
Sustainability has become a central theme in contemporary fashion branding, yet the ways in which companies articulate their commitments can vary significantly. This study examines how French ethical fashion brands construct their discourse on sustainability through linguistic choices, focusing on terminology, conceptual associations, and emotional framing. Using a lexicometric approach, we analyze a corpus of brand communications through word frequency analysis, co-occurrence heatmaps, and sentiment analysis. The findings reveal that sustainability discourse is structured around key themes such as materials, transparency, and cultural identity, with a strong emphasis on traceability and responsible production. Despite expectations of aspirational messaging, neutral sentiment dominates, suggesting a preference for factual, credibility-driven communication over overt emotional appeal. The study also highlights how labels and certifications play a pivotal role in reinforcing sustainability claims, though they may also serve as marketing tools rather than verifiable indicators of corporate responsibility. Additionally, the absence of key terms like “upcycling” suggests that linguistic choices shape how sustainability practices are framed and understood within the French ethical fashion industry. These insights contribute to a broader discussion on how sustainability is communicated in fashion branding and raise questions about whether changing geopolitical dynamics and increasing environmental awareness will influence the evolution of these narratives in the future

Estrangement of Meaning in a Wealth of Information
The expression offered by the editors as a prompt for thought (“observing technologies of observation”) is twisted here, briefly and provocatively, in a kind of radical way, intensifying both its informational (cybernetic) connotation and the intuition of a spiraling (psychotic) twirl. Reminiscences of “Von Foerster’s conjecture” (a theory of alienation in second-order observation once formulated by Jean-Pierre Dupuy) are used in order to interrogate the depletion of signification in a society that is now conceived of as a computational product. The problem of aesthetics, the essay concludes, becomes then crucial
