The Effect of Learning Style on Students’ Learning Performance During the Covid-19 Pandemic
The research aims to determine the effect of learning style on students’ performance through online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. The subjects of study are 269 chemistry education students at three universities in Indonesia. The data collection of learning style uses a Likert scale questionnaire, and learning performance is obtained from students’ grade point average. In this research, students’ learning style was divided into visual, auditorial, and kinesthetic. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics with linear regression and ANOVA tests. The learning styles positively affect student learning performance by 4.7%, while 95.3% of other factors are not examined in this study. The learning performance of students with auditory is higher than visual and kinesthetic learning styles. Based on the inferential analysis, there is no significant difference in student learning performance based on student learning styles. Therefore, students with different learning styles have the same learning performance in online learning
Development of Inorganic Molecular Shape Model Using 3D Printer to Strengthen Student's Conceptual Understanding
This research aims to develop a product in the form of an inorganic molecular shape model using a 3D printer, analyze the validity, practicality, effectiveness of the product, and strengthen students' conceptual understanding using the product. The method is Research and Development (R&D) based on the Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation (ADDIE) model. The supporting instruments for this research are product and instrument validation sheets, product readability questionnaires, pretest-posttest questions, question during the trial, observation sheets for students' conceptual understanding, and student response questionnaire to the product. The results showed that the product developed was following the ADDIE model because the five stages were carried out systematically; the product being developed has very high validity with an average percentage of 96.88%; the average percentage of practicality is 95.17%Â which is categorized as very practical, and the average percentage of effectiveness is 94.69% which is categorized as very effective; the product developed can strengthen students' conceptual understanding shown on the average percentage of conceptual understanding indicators achievement during the trial was 90.61% and the observation result was 94.69%, both of which belong to very high category. There was an increase in the average pretest value of 33.93 and post-test of 63.99. The results of the Rasch analysis after using this product showed that the consistency of students' answers was 0.71 (quite good), the quality of the items was 0.93 (very good), and the interaction between the consistency of students' answers was 0.68 (quite good). The product can be used to strengthen students' conceptual understanding on the topic of molecular shape
DEVELOPMENT OF STEM (SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, AND MATHEMATIC) INTEGRATED CHEMICAL MODULE ON VOLTAIC CELLS
21st century requires generation to have high competitiveness and competence in various aspect. Moreover,challenges in the teaching and learning process on chemical subjects, such as voltaic cells, which has abstract and contextual characteristics, as a problem to be solved. This study aimed to produce an integrated chemical module STEM Project Based Learning on the topic of valid and practical voltaic cells. The development of STEM integrated chemical module on the topic of the Voltaic cell used ADDIE model namely Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation. Data was collected through needs analysis, expert testing and student questionnaire responses. At the expert review stage, using 7 material experts and 7 media experts. The implementation phase was carried out in one of the high schools in Serang City. The result of the expert test stage obtained a final score of material validation of 88.25% (very feasible or very valid) and media validation of 82% (very feasible or very valid) with an average score of validity of 87% (very feasible or very valid). For the final score of feasibility obtained from 81% limited trials (very feasible). The characteristics of the developed module was STEM module which follows the Laboy-Rush PjBL-STEM syntax namely refelection, research, discovery, application, and communication. It was made by A5 paper size to make it easy to carry and prepared by various illustrations, interesting features and STEM-Project and design log to complete Voltaic cell project. Furthermore, it is hoped that this module can be used as an alternative STEM teaching material on voltaic cell topic
APPLICATION OF CONSTRUCTIVISM–BASED STUDENTS’ WORKSHEET TO INCREASE STUDENTS ACTIVITIES AND LEARNING OUTCOMES
Information gained from lecturers of organic chemistry study program in chemical education Riau University, student activities and learning outcomes are still relatively low. The researchers believe that contructivism -based students’ worksheet as a new learning method is needed to overcome the problem. The study was conducted using the application of contructivism-based students worksheet in organic chemistry II subject to increase students activities and their learning outcomes.The data were collected by observation and test. Statistics descriptive qualitative and quantitative were used to analyze the data. The data of learning outcomes were analyzed by Shapiro- Wilks normality, Wilcoxon hypothesis test and paired samples test. The result showed that average values of student activity for each subject namely aldehyde-ketones, carboxylic acids, amines and free radicals were at 37%, 37%, 30%, 36%. The result from wilcoxon and paired samples test, with significant test 0,000 < 0,05 showed that student learning outcomes on organic chemistry II subject by constructivism-based students’ worksheet was improved, It can be seen from average value of the pre-test and post-test were at 19.77; 72.15, respectively
DEVELOPMENT OF WEB-BASED CHEMICAL LEARNING MEDIA IN COLOID SYSTEM TOPIC USING WORDPRESS
The study aimed to develop web-based learning media on colloidal system topic using wordpress CMS. It comes from challenges to make an attractive learning system for students. The research method ADDIE model developed by Dick and Carrey. The research instrument was questionaires. This learning media had been validated by media experts, material experts, chemistry educators and field trials. The result showed that the learning media is valid and feasible to be used in teaching and learning activities on system colloid lessons. It is proven based on the average score which is converted in to good and very good categories according to the ideal assessment criteria. While the result of small group trial showed the average scores of 19 and 19.4 for aspects of learning material and 35.5 and 38.1 for aspects of appearance and operation are both categorized as a good category
ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS MISCONCEPTION IN CHEMICAL EQUILIBRIUM MATERIAL USING THREE TIER TEST
This study aimed to analyze students misconception seen from the relationship between the results of the three tier test and interviews about chemical equilibrium material on the concept of determining the formula Kc, Kp, and the concept of Kc calculation. The research method was descriptive qualitative method. The data collection technique in this study was a test. The research instrument was in the form of three tier test questions consisted of four concepts. The misconceptions were analyzed based on the result of tests given to 30 students were further clarified by interviewing as matching answers. The study was conducted at SMA Negeri 2 Wonosari in Gunungkidul Regency with five interviewed research subjects. The result showed that students experienced misconceptions about the concept of determining the Kc formula by 23.33%, determining the Kp formula by 13,33%, and concept of Kc calculation by 16,67%
IMPLEMENTATION OF PROJECT-BASED LEARNING THROUGH STEM APPROACH TO IMPROVE STUDENTS' SCIENCE PROCESS SKILLS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES
This study aimed to determine PjBL-STEM implementations effect to improve science process skills and students’ learning outcomes on the material of substances and their characteristics. The type of research used was a quasі-experiment with a pre-test post-test control group design. The research subjects were students of class VII Darul Ihsan Islamic Junior High School Aceh Besar, which consisted of eight classes. The sample group was determined by purposive sampling technique so that two classes were obtained as the research sample, namely class VII-G as an experimental class and VII-H as a control class. The results showed that the implementation of the PjBL-STEM model could increase students’ science process skills. The average students’ science process skills in the control and experimental classes were 53 and 55 with sufficient categories. However, after implementing the Discovery Learning model in the control class and PjBL-STEM in the experimental class, the students' science process skills' average score increased to 76 with good categories and 86 with excellent categories. The PjBL-STEM model was also able to improve students’ learning outcomes. Based on the results of the t-test analysis with a significant score of 0.05, it showed that the post-test scores in both classes were obtained t-count (2.011) > t-table (1.666), so it was concluded that there was a significant difference between the two classes. N-gain testing showed an increase in students’ learning outcomes between the control and experimental classes with scores of 74 and 79. This study concluded that the PjBL-STEM model could improve science process skills and students’ learning outcomes
STUDENTS’ METACOGNITIVE AND CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS IN THERMOCHEMISTRY
Metacognitive is the ability to control cognitive aspects, while critical thinking is the ability to think rationally and clearly in understanding the logical connections between various ideas. Both are necessary in 21st -century education. This study aims to analyze students' metacognitive and their critical thinking skills in thermochemistry material and the correlation of metacognitive with critical thinking. The population was the third-grade private high school students consisted of four schools. Each school was randomly selected by one class as a sample, with a total sample of 150 students. Metacognitive skills instrument is an integrated essay test of metacognitive skills and critical thinking. The results showed that most of the students' metacognitive skills in the developing category (51.67%), most of the students' critical thinking skills in the sufficient category (65.33%), the students' metacognitive and critical thinking skill are positively correlated. The contribution of metacognitive abilities to critical thinking is at 72.0%. The results indicate that students' metacognitive and critical thinking skills need to be empowered to improving the quality of learning
THE USE OF VIRTUAL LABORATORY OF ACID-BASE MATERIALS TO IMPROVE STUDENTS LEARNING OUTCOME
 This study aimed to determine how much animation-assisted learning can improve students’ learning outcomes in chemistry subjects, especially acid-base solution. This research is a type of classroom action research. Research subjects are 33 students of 2th Vocational High School Cimahi grade X Multimedia C on the academic year 2019-2020. Data collection techniques using written test questions, questionnaires, and observations. The method of classroom action research is taken in two cycles. Each cycle has four stages, which consist of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. This class of research took place from September 2019 to December 2019. The percentage of class learning completeness obtained through written tests in the first cycle was 72.73% (74.55% class average) and 87.87% for the second cycle (average grade 77.57%). Thus, it can be concluded that the use of animation can improve student learning outcomes in chemistry subjects in acid-base solutions
STUDENT DIFFICULTY ANALYSIS IN COMPLETING CHEMISTRY ODD SEMESTER EXAM
The problems obtained by the researcher in Senior High School 5 Takengon Central Aceh show that most students have difficulty solving odd semester exam questions in chemistry learning. This study aims to determine what difficulties students face and what factors cause students to have difficulties. The method used in this research is descriptive method with a qualitative approach. Data were collected through tests, questionnaires, and interviews. Data were analyzed descriptively and qualitatively. The results obtained indicate that students have difficulty in chemical calculations, exothermic and endothermic reactions, and the concept of chemistry equilibrium; the factors that affect students' difficulties in solving odd semester final exam questions on chemistry are the students', physical condition, students' motivation, and interest and students' low mathematical abilities
