The influence of professional attitude, welfare, self-sustaining development, and job satisfaction on teacher performance
This study aims to identify: i) The effect of teacher welfare, self-sustaining development, job satisfaction, and teacher performance on the teaching professional attitude; ii) The effect of teacher welfare on self-development, job satisfaction, and teacher performance; iii) The effect of self-sustaining development on the professional attitude, welfare, job satisfaction, and teacher performance of teachers; and iv) The effect of teacher job satisfaction on teaching performance. This study was quantitative research with a correlational type. The sample was 155 vocational high school teachers in Central Java, Indonesia. Data was collected through a questionnaire technique. The data analysis technique used structural equation modeling with the linear structural relationship type. The study revealed that the teacher's professional attitude has an effect on teacher welfare but not on self-development, job satisfaction, or teacher performance. Teacher welfare has an effect on independent development but has no effect on teacher performance. Hence, independent development does not affect job satisfaction but affects teacher performance. Furthermore, job satisfaction has no effect on teacher performance. These findings can be used as study material for future researchers to analyze the research variables or other variables, such as leadership style, work motivation, work discipline, and others
Positive attitudes toward mathematics among senior high school students in Cape Coast Metropolis
The study involved 2,575 students selected through a combination of probability and non-probability sampling procedures. Explanatory sequential mixed methods design was used. Participants completed the Fennema-Sherman Mathematics Attitude Scales (FSMAS) to provide the quantitative data for the research. The qualitative data were gathered through interviews. The arithmetic mean from the survey data for each of the students was used to shortlist 140 students for focus group interviews. The findings revealed that some of the impetuses that drive the respondents’ positive attitudes towards mathematics were mathematics as a compulsory subject, good teaching strategies by teachers, the utility of mathematics, career aspirations, and encouragement from parents, guardian or peers. The study recommended that stakeholders should encourage, enhance and promote these factors. Teachers, educators, and researchers are encouraged to dig deeper to unearth more of such factors
Strengthening civic literacy among students through digital literacy in society 5.0
The reading index in Indonesia is still relatively low, so many students are victims of fake news that develops on social media. In addition, students have not been able to utilize digital technology as digital literacy to the fullest, so it has implications for the weakness of knowledge about civic literacy. The research design used is a literature review and the type of qualitative research. The research method is literature, while the data collection technique uses document studies and the data analysis used is content analysis. Civic literacy has an important role in facing the era of society 5.0, with the ability of civic literacy, really helps students to participate in realizing the harmony of the life of the nation and state. Society 5.0 has a formidable challenge for higher education if each lecturer does not equip students with civic literacy skills. Strategies to strengthen civic literacy through digital literacy can be carried out effectively, by implementing varied learning methods and using digital-based learning media. Through this, students will be interested in learning, considering that students are a digital native generation who cannot be separated from digital technology. Strengthening civic literacy is very effective by utilizing digital literacy so that every student can adapt to the times, especially society in the 5.0 era
Non-fungible tokens, decentralized autonomous organizations, Web 3.0, and the metaverse in education: From university to metaversity
The pandemic has accelerated technological advances in higher education. Learning management systems that make use of the persistent platform, a wide range of communication options, and profoundly immersive qualities quickly become the platform of choice for learning management systems. The blockchain enables non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and uses the blockchain architecture to validate college diplomas and transcripts, opening the way for a diverse variety of e-portfolios owned and shared by students and teachers. Another type of blockchain that is relatively new to the education scene is decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs). Through this, technology courses, certificates, and more can become automated and authenticated on the blockchain. The current state of the web is rapidly evolving into what is known as Web 3.0. It is the emerging evolution of the internet to make it machine-readable, which includes leveraging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), the cloud, and distributed ledger technologies such as blockchain. From the perspectives of the university and the metaverse, this paper discusses the shift in education brought about by NFTs, DAOs, Web 3.0, and the metaverse. The powerful mix of Web 3.0 and the metaverse is about to revolutionize the way people learn and teach in the modern world
Status of pedagogical practices in Somaliland higher education institutions
Recently, there has been a concern in many parts of the world about the teaching strategies employed at higher education institutions (HEI). Empirical evidence shows that pedagogical practices affect the student engagement and academic excellence. Despite progress on the new innovative pedagogies globally, Somaliland HEI are still struggling with the old didactic teaching method which impedes students lifelong learning and future endeavors. Traditional teaching methods of HEI in Somaliland prevented students to unleash their potentials. Guided by the human capital theory, this study examined the status of lecturers’ application to modern pedagogical practices. The 35 lecturers at the University of Hargeisa, Somalia from the different faculties who had received postgraduate diploma in education provided by the university participated in this study. Employed by micro-teaching observation protocol of quantitative research design, the study found out lecture method as the most prevalent in their teaching practicum, with very low student cognitive engagement, inconsistencies with the instructional behavior and inadequate instructional aids. The study therefore proposed a cooperative jigsaw method as a veritable strategy for effective classrooms and better student engagement. The study recommends Somaliland higher education to adopt the policies, guidelines and regulations that guide the universities across the country
The effect of the infographic display style on learning and retaining the vocabulary of the Noble Quran
The study aimed to reveal the effect of the infographic display style (fixed, animated, and interactive) on learning and retaining the vocabulary of the Noble Quran among third grade students. The study sample consisted of 112 male and female third grade students and were distributed into three groups the students’ learning test was designed to learn the vocabulary of the Noble Quran according to the approved standards, and a quasi-experimental design was used. The results showed that all infographic patterns (fixed, animated, and interactive) have an impact on learning the vocabulary of the Noble Quran, but this effect is not equal between the patterns, the most influential is the interactive pattern, then the animated pattern, then the fixed pattern, and the results showed that the three patterns (fixed, animated, and interactive) had an impact on retaining learning the vocabulary of the Noble Quran, and that there were no differences between the three patterns in retaining learning the vocabulary of the noble Quran, and the study indicated to a set of recommendations, including encouraging teachers to employ multiple methods in teaching the vocabulary of the Noble Quran
Single-case study: Effectiveness of multilayer model to improve vocabulary knowledge of deaf students
This study aims to determine the effectiveness of implementing a multilayer model in lesson plan (LP) to increase the vocabulary knowledge of deaf students. This study is single-subject research with an A-B-A design (baseline-intervention-maintenance). The intervention instrument used was a LP that consisted of four units, each containing four words taught using multilayers. The instrument was validated and scored 4.6 on a scale of 1-5. The subjects who participated in the study were two students with severe deafness. Two teachers and two observers were involved in this study. The data were analyzed by inspecting the graph, intracondition, and intercondition. The percentage of non-overlapping data (PND) from the inter-condition was used to indicate the effectiveness of the intervention. It was found that the mean value of PND B/A for all LP from subject-1 was 96.25%, and from subject-2 was 100%. Thus, the multilayer model is very effective in improving vocabulary knowledge. The mean of PND A/B was 93.75%, and subject-2 achieved 89.87%, which means that the subject's vocabulary knowledge is maintained even without intervention
Comparison between universities in Indonesia and Malaysia: World-class college ranking perspectives
This study analyzes Indonesian and Malaysian universities in order to evaluate the reality of higher education in both countries, uncover the dynamics and causes influencing higher education, and disclose the similarities and contrasts between the Indonesian and Malaysian systems. Birdy's comparative descriptive method was used. This research relies on trustworthy global rating websites, statistics from the Indonesian and Malaysian Ministries of Higher Education, high-quality publications, and authoritative news. Indonesian higher education is largely entirely supported by the government and tuition fees at private universities. Due to a lack of collaboration between universities and industry groups, Indonesian higher education lacks a connection between scientific research, technical education, and the job market. Unlike Malaysia, it stresses scientific research, community service, and labor market demands. The researchers hypothesized the following processes based on the comparator countries: Adopting a productive university focused on output application via instruction and advice. Community-government and private-sector connections Using research to enhance firm products Collaboration with a firm or group to provide services that benefit them in exchange for participation in higher education goals, payment of expenditures, and use of outcomes. Through cooperative education, businesses and institutions may train and prepare university students for the job market
Evaluation of recreation departments in theory and practice
It is our source and it is irreversible. With industrialization, the time people spend at work has decreased, and their free time has increased. This has led people to look for new ways to spend their free time productively. At this point, graduates of the recreation department will have the opportunity to show the methods that will be useful for people to spend their free time efficiently in line with the education they receive. Since graduates are thought to be employed in organizations that provide leisure time services, the qualifications of graduates are important in this regard. In this study, the expectations of the employers from the graduates and the required qualifications of the graduates were investigated. One issue drawn from the results is that although each branch has specific expectations, all graduates must have certain qualifications, such as communication and constructive language skills
