Antifungal activity of dehydrocurvularin for Candida spp. through the inhibition of adhesion to human adenocarcinoma cells
Cell adhesion plays a crucial role in candidiasis through invasion of the human body and obtaining resistance to drugs by forming biofilms. Cell adhesion thus is a critical target for combating candidiasis by preventing the entry of fungal hyphae into the epithelium. We report here that dehydrocurvularin (1), isolated from the marine-derived fungus Curvularia aeria, exhibited anti-fungal activities for Candida albicans and Candida auris. This compound also prevented the adherence of C. albicans to human adenocarcinoma cells. Real-time RT-PCR analysis showed that exposure to 1 results in decreased expression of HWP1, EFG1, and ECE1, genes involved in Candida adhesion to epithelial cells and hyphal morphogenesis
Census-Tract-Level Median Household Income and Median Family Income Estimates: A Unidimensional Measure of Neighborhood Socioeconomic Status?
Previous studies suggested either census-tract-level median household income (MHI) or median family income (MFI) estimates may be used as a unidimensional measure of neighborhood socioeconomic status (SES) in the United States (US). To better understand its general use, the purpose of this study was to assess the usefulness of MHI and MFI in a wide range of geographic areas. Area-based socioeconomic data at the census tract level were obtained from the 2000 Census as well as the 2005–2009, 2010–2014, and 2015–2019 American Community Survey. MHI and MFI were used as two simple measures of neighborhood SES. Based on the five area-based indexes developed in the US, several census-tract-level socioeconomic indicators were used to derive five composite measures of neighborhood SES. Then, a series of correlation analyses was conducted to assess the relationships between these seven measures in the State of California and its seven Metropolitan Statistical Areas. Two simple measures were very strongly and positively correlated with one another, and were also strongly or very strongly correlated, either positively or negatively, with five composite measures. Hence, the results of this study support an analytical thinking that simple measures and composite measures may capture the same dimension of neighborhood SES in different geographic areas.p.23 Article number: 211 Licensee MDPI, Basel, Switzerland. Elucidation of the physiological significance of platelet-derived microparticles
本研究では、種々の病態バイオマーカーとして期待されている循環血中の細胞外小胞(Extracellular Vesicles:EVs)の質的・量的な変動の生理的意義の解明を目的としており、病態形成時のマクロファージの形質変化に着目した。その結果、血中EVsは、血液を介して全身のマクロファージの形質変化を誘導しており、種々の病態形成に起因するEVsに含まれるmiRNAカーゴ等の変化が、マクロファージの感染防御を規定することが示唆された。また、その血中EVsの変化は、EVsの産生源である血小板の質的・動的変動に影響されることが考えられた。In this study, we aimed to elucidate the physiological significance of qualitative and quantitative fluctuations of extracellular vesicles (EVs) in circulating blood, which are expected as biomarkers for various pathological conditions, and focused on the changes in the phenotype of macrophages. The results suggested that blood EVs induce phenotypic changes in macrophages via blood, and changes in miRNA cargo of EVs, which caused by the formation of various pathological conditions, regulate macrophage infection protection. Egg envelopes derived from maternal liver in teleost
真骨魚類の卵を覆う構造物である卵膜は、zona pellucida (ZP)タンパク質で構成されている。真骨魚類の進化過程で卵膜形成器官は卵細胞自身から母体の肝臓へと大きく変化したことが知られている。このようなダイナミックな変化を遂げるためには「ZP遺伝子の発現場所の変化」「肝臓から卵巣へのZPタンパク質の輸送の仕組み」「卵細胞外から運ばれてきたZPでの卵膜形成の仕組み」など多くの変化を伴う必要があることが予想されるが、本研究において、「ZP遺伝子の発現場所の変化」のみで成し遂げられる可能性が示唆された。The egg envelope, the structure that surround the egg of teleost, is composed of the zona pellucida (ZP) protein. It is known that the organ forming the egg envelope has undergone a change from the oocytes themselves to the maternal liver during the evolution of teleost. Such a dynamic change is expected to be accompanied by many changes, such as "a change in the ZP gene expression site," "the mechanism of ZP protein transport from the liver to the ovary," and "the mechanism of egg membrane formation with ZP transported from outside the egg cell. The Position of Cultural Property Protection Administration in Cultural Policy : Analysis of Saitama Prefecture's Cultural Administration since the 1970s
1970・80年代における埼玉県の文化行政分析により、「民」と「官」による文化財保護分野が文化政策総体に与えた影響の解明に努めた。その結果、文化財保存運動が、戦後の自治体文化財保護行政の基礎形成に貢献したことを明らかにし、教育行政における文化財保護政策のみならず、首長部局主導の文化行政における文化財の活用へとつながっていったことを立証した。しかし、80年代後半以降、文化行政は文化施設整備などの開発主義的様相を帯びる中で、文化的な豊かさを求めた文化行政は変質した。同時に文化行政としての文化財保護政策もまた、施設装飾などに文化財イメージを用いるなど、表層的な活用への傾倒が明らかとなった。By analyzing the cultural administration of Saitama Prefecture in the 1970s and 1980s, we have endeavored to elucidate the influence of the "private" and "public" sectors for the protection of cultural properties on the overall cultural policy. As a result, we clarified that the cultural property preservation movement contributed to the formation of the foundation of municipal cultural property protection administration in the postwar period. However, since the latter half of the 1980s, cultural administration, which sought cultural enrichment, has been transformed as cultural administration has taken on a development-oriented aspect through the construction of cultural facilities. The values of the DPPH free radical scavenging ability values (IC50) of ferulic acid and its derivatives have been estimated by machine learning with only molecular orbital (MO) energies as the explanatory variables. We use four machine learning regression methods, Partial Least Square (pls), Random Forest (rf), Multi-Layer Perceptron Neural Network with Optional Monotonicity Constraints (monmlp) and eXtreme Gradient Boosting with Linear model (xgbLinear), using R-package caret. We use 22 molecules for the training set and 6 molecules for the test set. The root mean square (RMS) errors of predicted values for the test set are used for estimating the precision of the training. The best result is obtained by xgbLinear just using two MO energies (HOMO and LUMO). It has been proved that the IC50 values can be predicted by the molecular orbital energies only
Romberg integration for high school students
Romberg積分は定積分の近似を得る手法(数値積分)の一種である。台形公式に対して特定のアルゴリズムを適用することで,定積分の(台形公式と比べてより良い)近似が得られる。実用的なアルゴリズムである一方,教材としても非常に優秀なものであろうと考えられる。Romberg積分を導入する上で必要な知識のほとんどは高校生の知識を活用するものであり,発展的な内容でも,高校の内容から十分に観察することができる。また,Excelなどを用いることで,計算の様子を動的に察することもできる。本稿では,Romberg積分の数理的な背景及び実装を高校教員程度の知識を仮定して解説する。本稿の執筆には城西大学紀尾井町キャンパス理学部数学科3年次の配当科目である『情報研究Ⅰ』でのレポートを参考にしている。また,紙面の都合上,証明や例・誤差評価を含め多くのことを省いているので,詳細に関しては城西大学の教育支援システム『WebClass(https://webclass.josai.ac.jp)』のゲスト用資料を参照していただきたい(公開されたが,私事につき,提出当初のレポートを掲載)。なお,Excelによる実装は城西大学理学部数学科3年の佐藤泰広氏の結果を参考にした。学生論文 / Students’ essay 理学部数学科2019年度生 指導教員 : 清水 史
