The Impact of Job Demands and Spirituality on Employee Engagement: Evidence from Christian Lecturers in Indonesia
This study investigated the influence of job demands and spirituality on employee engagement, focusing on Christian lecturers in Indonesia. The research is both timely and significant, as it offers a fresh perspective on the typically negative association between job demands and employee engagement. Contrary to conventional assumptions, the findings reveal that job demands can, in fact, enhance work engagement among Christian lecturers, particularly when accompanied by a strong sense of spirituality. Employing a quantitative correlational design, data were collected from 200 lecturers selected through purposive sampling. Employee engagement was measured using the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale, while job demands and spirituality were assessed using established and validated instruments. Data analysis was conducted using Structural Equation Modeling with Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). The results demonstrated that job demands had a positive effect on employee engagement, indicating that greater work demands were linked to higher levels of engagement. This finding offers a novel contribution, as it deviates from much of the prior literature. In alignment with the Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) model, the study suggests that under certain conditions, job demands can be reinterpreted as challenges that stimulate motivation and foster engagement, particularly when supported by sufficient job resources. Furthermore, spirituality emerged as a significant predictor of employee engagement, underscoring the importance of meaning and purpose in strengthening lecturers’ dedication to their work. Overall, these findings affirm the JD-R model and highlight the need to balance job demands with both organizational and personal resources, including spiritual well-being. Future studies are encouraged to explore these dynamics across different religious contexts and consider other external factors influencing employee engagement
Profile of emotional intelligence of junior high school students
Achieving emotional independence is one of the developmental tasks of adolescents. Previous studies have found differences in levels of emotional intelligence among adolescents. Initial studies show that the emotional intelligence of junior high school students is not optimal, especially in regulating emotions. The existence of gaps between various literature studies, gaps between literature studies and field studies, and the unavailability of research on the level of emotional intelligence, especially among students at one of the junior high schools in Denpasar, raises questions from researchers regarding the actual level of emotional intelligence of students at one of the junior high schools in Denpasar. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of emotional intelligence in students at a junior high school in Denpasar. Emotional intelligence is measured using the Emotional Intelligence Scale. The research method is descriptive quantitative. The sample was students at one of the junior high schools in Denpasar. Impact of Image Quality Enhancement Using Homomorphic Filtering on the Performance of Deep Learning-Based Facial Emotion Recognition Systems
Facial emotion recognition technology is crucial in understanding human expressions from images or videos by analyzing distinct facial features. A common challenge in this technology is accurately detecting a person's facial expression, which can be hindered by unclear facial lines, often due to poor lighting conditions. To address these challenges, it is essential to improve image quality. This study investigates how enhancing image quality through homomorphic filtering and sharpening techniques can boost the accuracy and performance of deep learning-based facial emotion recognition systems. Improved image quality allows the classification model to focus on relevant expression features better. Therefore, this research contributes to in facilitating more intuitive and responsive communications by enabling system to interpret and respond to human emotions effectively. The testing used three different architectures: MobileNet, InceptionV3, and DenseNet121. Evaluasi kinerja dilakukan menggunakan metrik akurasi, presisi, recall, dan F1-score. Experimental results indicated that image enhancement positively impacts the accuracy of the facial emotion recognition system. Specifically, the average accuracy increased by 1-2% for the MobileNet architecture, by 5-7% for InceptionV3, and by 1-3% for DenseNet121
Validation of flourishing scale PERMA on prospective student educators
This study aims to validate the growth scale in the context of educational students. This scale is based on Seligman's PERMA theory, which includes five dimensions: positive emotion, engagement, relationships, meaning, and achievement. The research method used a survey involving 305 students of the education study program aged 18–25 who were selected using the non-probability sampling method with the convenience sampling type. Data were analyzed using the Rasch Model to determine the nature of the psychometric development scale. The analysis showed a 36.1% unidimensionality, indicating a good ability to measure the development construct. As many as 35 of the 55 items were declared valid after item fit and demographic bias analysis. The reliability value is high, with a personal reliability coefficient of 0.87 and an item reliability coefficient of 0.99. Internal consistency is also strong, with a Cronbach's Alpha of 0.90. Wright Map analysis shows that the level of item difficulty is below the student's ability, so the scale is easy to apply. This study confirms that the growth scale is considered relevant to measure the growth of prospective educator students. Further development is recommended to respond to cross-cultural issues so that the scale makes more sense in the context of higher education
