One Experience, Three Expressions: A Multidimensional Analysis of Employee Engagement

    Get PDF
This study aims to analyze employee engagement from a multidimensional perspective by differentiating three forms of employee engagement expression: Convey (speaking positively about the organization), Commit (desire to stay), and Contribute (effort to provide maximum contribution). The data were collected from 1,235 employees across various sectors in Indonesia through the Employee Experience Survey (EES) developed by KTM Consulting, using a population study. The research population comes from various industry sectors and job backgrounds, ranging from staff to managerial levels, thus adequately reflecting the diversity of organizational contexts in Indonesia. This study employed independent sample t-tests to examine differences in engagement scores across demographic groups and multiple linear regression analysis to identify the contribution of each cluster to engagement expressions, using a significance level of p ≤ 0.05. The results indicate that each form of engagement is influenced by different driving factors: Brand & Reputation has a significant impact on Convey (45.15%), Career Development & Growth Opportunities primarily influences Commit (21.58%), and Purpose & Meaning serves as the main driver for Contribute (30.84%). These findings underscore that a one-dimensional approach to measuring engagement risks overlooking the psychological dynamics underlying the employee-organization relationship. By understanding engagement expressions separately, organizations can design more precise, relevant, and long-term interventions to enhance work motivation, retention, and employee contribution

    Get PDF
Poverty remains a major issue in Indonesia, particularly in Central Java which has the second highest poverty rate on the island of Java, following the Special Region of Yogyakarta. This study aims to categorize districts and cities in Central Java based on poverty characteristics to support more effective poverty alleviation programs. Using the K-Medoids clustering method, poverty indicators in Central Java Province were analyzed for the year 2021. The K-Medoids method aims to identify poverty groupings and visualize the distribution of poverty in Central Java province for the year 2021. The results identified two clusters. Cluster 1 includes 31 districts and cities with higher poverty rates, lower education levels, and lower residential rental costs. Although the poverty rate is high, people in this cluster show a strong work ethic with relatively low unemployment among those aged over 15 years. In contrast, Cluster 2 shows lower poverty rates, higher education levels, and higher housing costs, but relatively higher unemployment rates. Overall, Cluster 1 represents areas requiring special attention from the government to improve community welfare

Strengthening the correctional system through electronic supervision of prisoners: A comparative legal study for reforming Indonesia's penitentiary law

    Get PDF
Introduction to the Problem: The practice of criminal law in a country should evolve technologically, as in Indonesia, where electronic surveillance of prisoners has been adopted. Indonesia has correctional facilities that are experiencing tremendous overcrowding, and this trend not only hinders the effective rehabilitation of inmates but also burdens the state coffers. Countries with well-organised biobanks have used this surveillance technology to prevent this malfunction. Purpose/Study Objectives: This research aims to analyze whether there is a possibility of introducing electronic monitoring of prisoners in Indonesia as a possible amendment to the Criminal Sanctions Implementation Act by conducting an international review of the experience of similar practices in several countries with civil law (Latvia, Iceland, France, Norway, Croatia, Kosovo), common law (England and Wales), and mixed law (Thailand) systems. Design/Methodology/Approach: This research utilises qualitative approaches, especially normative legal analysis and comparison. The data was collected by way of thorough analysis of legal documents from different jurisdictions that have varying legal traditions, such as civil law countries like Latvia, Iceland, France, Norway, Croatia, and Kosovo, common law countries of England and Wales, and Thailand, which has a mixed legal system. The comparison of these legal systems assists in constructing possible integration of electronic surveillance systems in the criminal law system in Indonesia. Findings: Research shows that electronic monitoring of prisoners in Indonesia has potential despite the lack of legislation for such tracking due to the relevance of implementation, especially for low-risk prisoners and first-time offenders. Concerns are identified, such as inadequate infrastructure, lack of comprehensive legislation and resistance from various groups. However, the promising benefits outweigh those concerns, as well as features such as a 40% reduction in prison overcrowding and improvements in recidivism rates of inmate rehabilitation. An Indonesian Perspective of Father’s Involvement in Children’s Education: The Role of Religiosity, Marital Satisfaction, and Father’s Self-Efficacy

    Get PDF
In Indonesia, traditional social norms continue to emphasize the father as the dominant and authoritative figure in family life. However, research on fathers' involvement in children's education and the factors influencing it remains limited. This study investigates the alignment between a theoretical model of father involvement and empirical data, specifically examining the impact of religiosity, marital satisfaction, and fathers' self-efficacy on their participation in children's education. The study surveyed 393 fathers of state junior high school students in Malang, Indonesia, using four standardized instruments: the Father’s Involvement Scale, Religiosity Scale, Marital Satisfaction Scale, and Father’s Self-Efficacy Scale. Structural equation modeling (SEM) analysis confirmed a strong fit between the theoretical framework and empirical findings. Results indicate that religiosity has a direct influence on father involvement and marital satisfaction but does not significantly affect involvement indirectly through marital satisfaction. Marital satisfaction, in turn, has a significant impact on both father involvement and self-efficacy, while self-efficacy directly contributes to greater involvement in children's education. Based on these findings, schools are encouraged to actively engage fathers in educational activities to enhance their role in adolescent education. Given the study's quantitative approach, future research should consider a mixed-methods design to provide a more comprehensive understanding of father involvement in adolescent education

Inspiring the New Workforce: Transformational Leadership and Job Satisfaction as Drivers of Organizational Citizenship Behavior in Generation Z Civil Servants

    Get PDF
In 2023, Generation Z ASN (State Civil Apparatus) workers accounted for 6% of the workforce, totaling 268,920 employees. Previous research suggests that Generation Z holds different work values compared to earlier generations. These differences may lead Generation Z workers to be less inclined toward Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB), despite OCB being a crucial factor in organizational performance. This study aims to examine the OCB of Generation Z ASN workers and its relationship with Transformational Leadership, with Job Satisfaction as a mediating factor. The research involved 365 Generation Z ASN employees working in the Government of Province X, selected through purposive sampling. Data was collected using the OCB Scale, Transformational Leadership Scale, and Job Satisfaction Scale. The analysis was conducted using Partial Least Square – Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The findings indicate that both Transformational Leadership and Job Satisfaction have a positive and significant impact on the OCB of Generation Z ASN employees. All proposed hypotheses were supported. These results highlight the critical role of Transformational Leadership and Job Satisfaction in enhancing OCB among Generation Z ASN workers

Linking Pornography Consumption Motivations to Intention to Engage in Infidelity among Indonesian Young Adults

    Get PDF
Infidelity is a global relational problem that can seriously undermine individual and couple well-being. However, limited research has examined how specific motivations for pornography consumption—emotional avoidance, sexual curiosity, excitement seeking, and sexual pleasure—relate to intentions to engage in infidelity. This study aimed to investigate the direct effects of these four dimensions of pornography consumption on intention to engage in infidelity. A total of 159 individuals aged 18–40 years (M = 19.58, SD = 1.43) participated in the study and completed the Pornography Consumption Inventory and the Intention to Infidelity Scale. The analysis showed that emotional avoidance, sexual curiosity, and sexual pleasure were not significantly associated with intention to engage in infidelity. In contrast, the excitement-seeking dimension demonstrated a small but significant positive association with infidelity intention. These findings suggest that pornography consumption, particularly when motivated by excitement seeking, may shape cognitive precursors to infidelity. This study clarifies the dynamic mechanisms linking pornography-related motivations and infidelity intention and offers insight into how individuals may establish psychological boundaries when confronted with opportunities for extradyadic involvement

Astrologic: The Effectiveness of Priming Using Chinese Zodiac Characteristics on Logical Thinking Ability

    Get PDF
This experimental study examined whether Chinese zodiac personality descriptions, when used as priming stimuli, affect logical thinking ability among Generation Z students. A 2x2 factorial design (valence x validity) was applied to 105 college students aged 18-25, who were randomly assigned to one of four groups: positive-valid, positive-invalid, negative-valid, or negative-invalid. Logical thinking was measured using 15-minute Sudoku Logical Task administered before and after priming. A one-way ANOVA showed no significant overall effect of priming on logical thinking ability (F = 1.290, p-value = 0.282 > 0.05). However, paired sample t-tests revealed a significant improvement in the negative-valid (t = 3.266, p-value = 0.003 < 0.05) and negative-invalid (t = 2.495, p-value = 0.020) groups, whereas no significant changes were observed in the positive conditions. These exploratory results were based on uncorrected p-values and should be interpreted with caution due to potential Type I error inflation. These results suggest that negative descriptions, even when perceived as valid or invalid, may elicit compensatory motivation to protect one’s self-concept. The findings extend the Situated Inference Model and Self-Enhancement Theory by emphasizing affective valence as a stronger determinant of cognitive engagement than perceived validity. Practically, challenge-based feedback may enhance logical thinking when framed constructively.

Adolescence is a critical developmental period in which sleep quality and the school environment shape health and well-being. We examined differences in sleep quality and quality of life (QoL) between Indonesian students attending a public (n=500) versus a Christian (n=50) high school and explored sex-specific patterns. In this cross-sectional study (May–June 2024), we administered the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and the WHOQOL-BREF (physical, psychological, social, environmental domains). Females reported poorer sleep than males (PSQI: 6.40 ± 3.04 vs 5.51 ± 3.01; p=0.001), and lower general QoL (7.09 ± 1.44 vs 7.54 ± 1.53; p<0.001). Christian-school students scored higher on psychological QoL (Domain 2: 21.26 ± 3.43 vs 20.08 ± 3.55; p=0.024) and general QoL (7.78 ± 1.51 vs 7.20 ± 1.48; p=0.013) compared with public-school peers; sleep quality did not differ (p=0.733). Across all students, poorer sleep correlated with worse physical health (Domain 1: r = -0.15, p<0.001) and lower general QoL (r = -0.09, p=0.033); the sleep–physical QoL association persisted in males (r = -0.23, p=0.001) but not females. This study highlights the role of gender and school environment in understanding sleep quality and quality of life in adolescents. Practically, results support school-based sleep health education and leveraging faith-based community assets to enhance psychological well-being in resource-constrained settings

Mindfulness and Emotion Regulation in Adolescents and Young Adults with Cancer: A Qualitative Systematic Review

    Get PDF
Adolescents and young adults (AYA) with cancer frequently experience emotion dysregulation, yet existing reviews have focused mainly on symptoms such as anxiety, depression, or quality of life. This systematic literature review examined how mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) support emotion regulation in AYA with cancer. Following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, we searched PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, PsycINFO, and Google Scholar for studies published between 2015 and 30 June 2025 in English or Indonesian. Eligible studies involved AYA aged 10–39 years with a current or past cancer diagnosis, delivered an MBI, and reported emotion regulation or closely related outcomes. Two independent reviewers screened records, appraised methodological quality using design-appropriate tools (e.g., CASP/MMAT, RoB-2, JBI), and resolved discrepancies by consensus. Because of substantial heterogeneity in designs, interventions, and measures, data were synthesized using thematic meta-synthesis (qualitative) and narrative synthesis with vote-counting by direction of effect (quantitative). From 2,562 records, 10 studies met the inclusion criteria. Across designs, MBIs consistently enhanced emotional awareness, acceptance of difficult feelings, and self-regulatory coping; several trials also reported reductions in distress and improvements in self-compassion, although quantitative findings on emotion regulation difficulties were mixed. Limitations include small sample sizes, heterogeneous interventions and measures, and lack of protocol registration. Overall, MBIs show promising potential to strengthen emotion regulation in AYA with cancer, but larger, rigorously controlled trials with standardized emotion regulation outcomes and longer follow-up are needed
