Optimizing Machine Learning-Based Network Intrusion Detection System with Oversampling, Feature Selection and Extraction

    Get PDF
Network security is a global challenge that requires intelligent and efficient solutions. Machine Learning (ML)-based Network Intrusion Detection Systems (NIDS) have been proven to enhance accuracy in detecting cyberattacks. However, the main challenges in implementing ML-based IDS are dataset imbalance and large dataset size. This research addresses these challenges by applying oversampling techniques to balance the dataset, feature selection using random forest to identify the most relevant features, and feature extraction using Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to further reduce the selected important features. Additionally, K-fold cross-validation is used to test the features to minimize bias and ensure the model does not suffer from overfitting, while Optuna is implemented to automatically optimize model parameters for maximum accuracy. Since IDS performance deteriorates with high-dimensional features, the combination of methods used is evaluated based on feature selection applied to the model using datasets wtih 45 features selected from UNSW-NB15, 78 features from CIC-IDS-2017, and 80 features from CIC-IDS-2018 using various ML algorithms. The results demonstrate that the combination technique with feature selection, along with maximum optimization for each model significantly improves performance on large and imbalanced datasets reaching 99% accuracy compared to conventional methods in network traffic analysis

The implementation of the Independent Curriculum in 2022 places improving numeracy skills as one of the priority programs for basic education in Indonesia. Early numeracy skills are an important foundation for children's cognitive development and long-term academic success. This study aims to evaluate and identify the most effective early numeracy learning strategies in supporting the strengthening of elementary school students' numeracy skills. The research method used is a systematic literature review with a qualitative-descriptive approach. Data sources were obtained through manual searches of 18 scientific journal articles and 4 conference proceedings published in the last five years. Of the total 22 publications analyzed, six learning strategies were found to be consistently reported as effective: (1) explicit learning through short-term interventions, (2) the use of concrete manipulatives, (3) the use of visual representations, (4) providing corrective feedback, (5) involving parents in the learning process, and (6) game-based learning. The last strategy is the most dominant, mentioned in eight different studies, with variations of digital and traditional games adapted to the local context. The results of this study provide a comprehensive illustration of relevant and implementable approaches in early numeracy learning. These findings contribute to providing an empirical basis for policy makers and educators to design contextual, adaptive, and evidence-based numeracy learning programs

    Get PDF
Introduction to the Problem: This study explored the intertwined challenges of market volatility and gharar in Sharia capital markets, which jointly contribute to uncertainty and instability. Volatility and gharar are mutually reinforcing phenomena, while speculative behaviors such as margin trading and short selling intensify both factors, resulting in price distortions, obscured asset valuations, and reduced investor trust in Sharia-compliant instruments. Purpose/Study Objectives: The objective of this research is to examine the characteristics and legal dimensions of both volatility and gharar in Islamic capital markets, assess their collective impact on Sharia-compliant issuers, and propose integrated governance, legal, business, and technological strategies to mitigate associated risks and enhance market resilience. Design/Methodology/Approach: This study adopted a juridical-empirical-normative approach. The empirical aspect involved collecting and analyzing market data from the Indonesian Islamic capital market. At the same time, the normative analysis focused on evaluating regulatory instruments, including DSN-MUI Fatwa No. 80/2011 and OJK Regulation No. 15/POJK.04/2015, and within the context of Sharia principles and business law. Findings: The study finds that both gharar and market volatility contribute to structural weaknesses in Islamic capital markets. In addition, speculative trading practices amplify uncertainty and instability, demanding a regulatory response that limits such activities. Strengthening corporate governance, enhancing disclosure practices, and applying business law mechanisms are essential to risk mitigation. The study recommends future research into cross-border regulatory comparisons and the role of financial technology in improving market transparency and Sharia compliance. Paper Type: Research Articl

Integrating the Islamic concept of hikmah and positive psychology for holistic well-being: A literature review

    Get PDF
In the face of increasingly complex challenges in modern life, there is a pressing need to integrate Islamic wisdom (hikmah) with the principles of positive psychology to achieve holistic well-being. Wisdom, as the capacity to comprehend and apply knowledge meaningfully, is deeply rooted in Islamic teachings. Concurrently, positive psychology emphasizes the cultivation of individual strengths and potential to promote psychological flourishing. This study aims to explore the intersections between hikmah as derived from the Qur’an and Hadith and the foundational tenets of positive psychology in promoting mental health, resilience, and life satisfaction as components of holistic well-being. A qualitative literature review was conducted using a meta-ethnographic synthesis approach. This method facilitates the integration of findings from multiple qualitative studies to generate new theoretical insights into a specific phenomenon. It is particularly suitable for research that investigates subjective experiences, perceptions, and behaviors in depth, with the potential to inform both theoretical development and practical applications. The literature search was conducted through major academic databases, including Google Scholar, SpringerLink, PubMed, and Cambridge University Press. Search terms included “wisdom,” “Islam,” “positive psychology,” and “well-being.” Inclusion criteria encompassed peer-reviewed articles published between 2020 and 2024 in either English or Indonesian. A total of eight relevant articles were selected for synthesis. The findings highlight a strong association between religiosity and social support with wisdom. Wisdom, in turn, exerts a positive influence on psychological well-being. Furthermore, religiosity and social support contribute indirectly to psychological well-being through the mediating role of wisdom. Positive psychology interventions were found to enhance wisdom, resilience, and cognitive flexibility. Additionally, spiritual and health-promoting behaviors were positively correlated with psychological well-being, with health-related behaviors serving as mediators. Wisdom was identified as a significant predictor of subjective well-being, particularly in later life stages. While spirituality supports mental health, its contribution to wisdom appears to be less pronounced compared to prosocial behavior and self-regulation. Interventions rooted in Islamic values have shown potential in improving psychological well-being, and multicomponent positive psychology programs have demonstrated efficacy in both enhancing well-being and alleviating depressive symptoms. Overall, wisdom and religiosity are positively associated with subjective well-being, with mastery and life purpose serving as mediating variables
