    People's mining governance and ecological impacts in Jayapura City (1998-2024)

    Introduction to the Problem: The case of artisanal mining in Jayapura City has had positive socioeconomic impacts through job creation. However, it has also raised concerns about ecological impacts, including landscape degradation and contamination of the watershed that drains into Lake Sentani. Purpose/Study Objectives: This study aims to analyze the dynamics of community mining governance in Jayapura City since 1998, with a focus on the role of local government in law enforcement and the ecological impacts of small-scale gold mining activities. Design/Methodology/Approach: A socio-legal research approach was adopted, grounded in an empirical-juridical paradigm to capture both the statutory framework and its practical implementation. Data for the study were compiled through an analysis of regulatory documents, academic literature, and environmental impact reports, augmented by systematic field observations at key mining sites around Jayapura (including buffer zones near the Cyclops Nature Reserve and the Lake Sentani watershed). Observations were conducted over five months, utilizing document research protocols and peer review verification to ensure data reliability and analytical rigor. Findings: The findings reveal regulatory gaps and weak law enforcement, resulting in rampant illegal mining and environmental degradation, including land degradation, alterations to the hydrological system, and pollution of the watershed, ultimately affecting Lake Sentani. Although formalization of community mining businesses was attempted after 2007, challenges such as weak coordination between agencies, limited oversight, and conflicts of interest complicate the implementation of sustainable regulations. This study recommends strengthening the assessment of community mining areas, developing transparent local regulations, improving oversight and law enforcement mechanisms, and involving communities in environmental monitoring and advocacy to achieve a balance between regional economic and environmental sustainability.     Development of E-Modules Based on PBL Model to Improve Critical Thinking Skills on SPLTV Material

    Entering the era of the Industrial Revolution 5.0, critical thinking skills are an important aspect of education, especially in learning mathematics. However, students' critical thinking skills in Indonesia are still low, including in the material of System of Linear Equations of Three Variables (SPLTV). One solution is the use of the (PBL) model supported by an interactive e-module. This study aims to develop and analyze the effectiveness of PBL-based e-modules in improving students' critical thinking skills. The research method used is the ADDIE model with the subject of class X students at SMA Negeri 1 Tahunan. The validation results showed that the e-module was very valid, with an average score of 41.5 for media and 42.1 for material. The practicality test obtained a score of 78.2 (category "practical"), while the effectiveness test showed a significant increase (sig < 0.05) with an N-Gain score of 0.78 (high category). This proves that the PBL-based e-module is effective in improving students' critical thinking

    Enhancing DenseNet Accuracy in Retinal Disease Classification with Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization

    Retinal diseases are serious conditions that can cause vision impairment and, in severe cases, blindness, affecting 6.3% to 17.9% of cases per 100,000 people annually worldwide. Early diagnosis is crucial but often time-consuming, prompting the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) models like DenseNet, part of the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) architecture, to streamline the process. This study utilizes the Retinal OCT Images dataset from Kaggle, comprising 83,600 images categorized into four classes. To address the low contrast in Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) images, the Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE) technique was applied during preprocessing. Results indicate that DenseNet without CLAHE achieved an accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score of 95%, while incorporating CLAHE improved these metrics to 98%. The application of CLAHE also reduced classification bias and error, enhancing model reliability despite requiring more training epochs (43 compared to 39 without CLAHE). These findings demonstrate the potential of CLAHE to optimize DenseNet performance in retinal disease classification. Future research could explore other image enhancement techniques or apply the method to different retinal disease datasets, contributing to improved diagnostic accuracy in clinical settings

    PENGEMBANGAN LEMBAR KERJA PESERTA DIDIK ELEKTRONIK (E-LKPD) MENGGUNAKAN WORDWALL PADA MATERI BILANGAN BERPANGKAT KELAS VIII

    Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh adanya keterbatasan Lembar Kerja Peserta Didik Elektronik (E-LKPD) pada pembelajaran yang digunakan sebagai bentuk evaluasi terhadap peserta didik. Selain itu peserta didik pada saat diberikan Lembar Kerja Peserta Didik (LKPD) berupa kertas cetak peserta didik cenderung terlihat asyik sendiri atau mengobrol dengan teman disampingnya dari pada mengerjakan LKPD yang diberikan oleh pendidik dikarenakan peserta didik kurang tertarik dengan LKPD yang diberikan karena terkesan formal dan monoton sehingga proses pembelajaran kurang optimal. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengembangkan E-LKPD yang valid dan praktis. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian pengembangan dengan menggunakan model ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah instrumen validasi serta angket peserta didik. Subjek penelitian ini adalah peserta didik kelas VIII SMP Negeri 2 Sapuran, Wonosobo. Hasil penelitian ini adalah sebagai berikut. (1) Produk yang dihasilkan dalam penelitian ini adalah E-LKPD berbasis wordwall yang memuat materi bilangan berpangkat. (2) Berdasarkan uji coba kevalidan, E-LKPD dari segi materi memperoleh jumlah rata-rata keseluruhan sebesar 113 dengan presentase 78% dan memenuhi kriteria valid. Sedangkan E-LKPD dari segi media memperoleh jumlah rata-rata keseluruhan 156 dengan presentase 85% dengan memperoleh kriteria valid. (3) Berdasarkan uji kepraktisan, pada uji coba kelas kecil E-LKPD memperoleh persentase sebesar 86% dan memenuhi kriteria sangat praktis, sedangkan pada uji coba kelas besar E-LKPD pembelajaran memperoleh persentase sebesar 84% dan memenuhi kriteria praktis. Bedasarkan hasil rata-rata kedua sampel diperoleh rata-rata skor presentase keseluruhan sebesar 85% dengan kriteria praktis

    Problem based learning model on higher order thinking skills and self regulation of high school students

    21st century students are required to have critical thinking and problem solving skills, creativity and innovation, communication, collaboration to train students to have social skills and global insight. In addition, self-direction (crom), global connections, local connections and the use of technology as a learning tool support Higher Order Thinking Skills. The application of appropriate learning models can support the achievement of these skills. The purpose of this research is to analyze the effect of Problem Based Learning model on the ability of Higher Order Thinking Skills and analyze the effect of Problem Based Learning model on Self Regulation. The research method used quasi experimental with nonequivalent control group design. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. The instruments used were interviews, test questions, Self Regulation questionnaire and documentation. Hypothesis testing using Anacova test. The results showed a difference in Higher Order Thinking Skills on the application of the Problem Based Learning model with a significance value of 0,000<0,05, indicating the Problem Based Learning learning model affects Higher Order Thinking Skills. There is a difference in Self Regulation in the application of the Problem Based Learning learning model with a significance value of 0,000<0,05.

    Correlation of Gender, Major, and Residence on Climate Change Anxiety of College Students

    This study assessed the climate change anxiety of college students based on gender, college major, and residence, and examined its effects. Using the Climate Change Anxiety Scale, an online survey was conducted with 369 college students. Descriptive statistics, multivariate analysis of variance, analysis of variance, and linear regression, were used to explore relationships between variables. Results revealed that females reported slightly higher climate change anxiety than males, non-science majors) reported higher levels than science majors, and students living in urban areas scored higher than students from rural areas. Among these variables, only college major showed a significant multivariate effect on climate change anxiety (p<0.05), particularly regarding functional impairment (p<0.05). This study highlights the predictive role of academic background in climate anxiety and underscores the need for educational and psychological strategies that promote climate science understanding and student mental health in the Philippines and Southeast Asia

    Psychoeducational Therapy as a Nursing Intervention in Preparing Families and Adolescents Inmates toward Release

    Families face several psychosocial problems that affect their ability to plan and care for adolescent inmates. This research to determine the effect of family psychoeducational therapy on the ability of families to care for adolescent inmates and satisfaction with nursing services. The quasi-experimental pre-post test was used with a control group, in July-September 2024. The intervention group received five sessions of therapy, and the control group received general nursing services. The sampling technique was random permutation. Data measurement using an instrument observation and evaluation psychoeducational therapy and analyzed using Statistical Product and Service Solutions. Family satisfaction before and after intervention showed a significant increase (p-value 0.001) and the control group showed an insignificant increase. The family's ability before and after intervention significantly increased (p-value 0.001) and control group showed an insignificant increase. Comprehensive nursing practice in preparing families of adolescent inmates will contribute to preventing recidivism

    The Construction of Santri's Self-Control and Religiosity: The Role of Parents, Kiai, and Peers

    The dynamics of life in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), particularly concerning self-control and religiosity, are increasingly relevant amid evolving educational and social contexts. As santri (students) navigate a blend of religious discipline and modern influences, understanding the factors that shape their character becomes essential. This study investigates the roles of parental interaction, kiai (religious leader) communication, and peer attachment in influencing santri’s self-control and religiosity. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected from diploma- to bachelor-level santri aged 18–23 through Cluster Random Sampling and Purposive Sampling techniques. A total of 24 indicators were employed across validated instruments: Adolescent-Reported Parenting Items (α = 0.85), Interpersonal Communication Motives (α = 0.92), Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment (α = 0.81), Self-Control Scale (α = 0.85), and the Religiosity Among Muslims scale (α = 0.98). Results show that strong parental interaction significantly enhances both self-control and religiosity, highlighting the critical role of family involvement in santri character formation. Communication with kiai also positively affects religiosity, reinforcing the value of spiritual guidance. These findings offer important implications for educators, parents, and pesantren leaders in developing strategies to support santri character development amidst shifting social landscapes

    The Effect of Utilizing Natural Environmental Resources on The Creativity and Fine Motor Skills of Children Aged 4–5 Years

    This study aimed to examine the effects of utilizing natural environmental resources on the development of creativity and fine motor skills in children aged 4–5 years. A quantitative approach was employed using an experimental method with a 2×2 factorial design. The sample consisted of 20 children, who were divided into experimental and control groups. The experimental group participated in learning activities involving natural materials—such as painting, pasting, beading, and collage—using beach items like shells, stones, and sand. In contrast, the control group engaged in free drawing activities. Data were collected using observation sheets to assess children's creativity and fine motor development. Hypothesis testing revealed that the use of natural environmental resources had a significant effect on creativity (p = 0.008) and fine motor development (p = 0.003). Moreover, a significant combined effect on both developmental aspects was observed (p = 0.000), along with a positive interaction between the two. These findings suggest that natural environmental materials serve as effective educational tools for enhancing creativity and fine motor skills in early childhood learning settings.

    The neuropsychology of love: Mechanisms of love in the human brain

    Love is one of the most powerful positive emotions experienced by human beings. When caught up in love, individuals undergo neurochemical changes in brain regions such as the amygdala, hippocampus, and prefrontal cortex. These changes are triggered by increased blood flow, reflecting the complex interplay between love and brain activity. Accordingly, this study aims to explore how love influences brain function, the various types of love, and their respective impacts on individuals.  This will be explored through a literature review of previous studies on the types and characteristics of love, as well as the neural and hormonal activity associated with it. This study employed a systematic literature review approach, resulting in fifteen selected articles for synthesis. The findings indicate that types of love include romantic love, maternal love, filial love, unconditional love, and friendship. Moreover, the hormones involved in love include oxytocin, dopamine, and testosterone. The study also reveals that visual processing of a loved one's face engages complex brain mechanisms.
