    Daffodils and Solitude in William Wordsworth’s I Wandered Lonely as A Cloud

    PurposeThis study aims to identify the meaning of Wordsworth’s poem entitled I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud by analyzing its intrinsic elements. MethodThe present study is qualitative interpretive, focusing on the meaning conveyed in the poem entitled I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud using objective approach by interpreting the poem’s intrinsic elements through repeated reading of the poem as a whole and its details to achieve trustworthy analysis and conclusion. Results/findingsDifferent from general trend in the analysis Wordsworth’s I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud, the meaning of the poem is the experience of recalling the sight of the daffodils, which brought solitude to the speaker of the poem. The poem’s subject was not the daffodils, but the experience of encountering them and its recollection. As a traveler traveling in the countryside, the speaker viewed the sight of the daffodils in a positive tone through imageries of sight, internal sensation, and muscle movements related to good experiences, as well as dictions of natural views with positive connotations. The poem includes simile, personification, metonymy, and symbols to compare the beautiful crowd of daffodils and the solitude they bring to the speaker of the poem’s mind when he was recalling the sight of the dancing daffodils. ConclusionUsing Abram’s objective point of view, the analysis reveals the daffodils as representative of nature become the remedy for human’s loneliness as represented by the speaker of the poem by recalling the experience of seeing them, sending the message that appreciation of nature and the experience with nature should be maintained to create a tranquil life

    Majaz Isti’arah in Qur’an Surah Al-Baqarah: A Balaghah Science Perspective Based Analysis

    PurposeThis study examined the Majaz Isti\u27arah contained in the Qurán Surah (Q.S) Al-Baqarah according to the Perspective of Balaghah Science. Majaz isti\u27arah wasa part of the majaz lughawi which discussed the use of a word that was not in its real sense.MethodThe study relied on verbal data in the form of Quranic verses taken from Q.S Al-Baqarah through carefully reading to identify Majaz isti\u27arah. The identified Majaz isti\u27arah were qualitatively in accordance with Balaghah science perspective. It was done by balaghah scholars to get the most appropriate interpretation.Results/FindingsThe study found out that in Q.S. Al-Baqarah has 19 verses of Majaz Isti\u27arah. They were distributed into Majaz Isti\u27arah tasrihiyah with nine verses, namely Q.S. Al-Baqarah (2): 7, 16, 41, 49, 138, 143, 168, 175, 187, and Isti\u27arah makniyah with nine verses, namely Q.S. Al-Baqarah (2): 9, 27, 74, 81, 93, 250, 256, 257, 259; Isti\u27arah thaba\u27iyyah there with 15 verses, namely In Q.S. AlBaqarah (2): 7, 16, 27, 41, 49, 74, 81, 93, 143, 168, 175, 187, 250, 257, 259; Isti\u27arah Tamstsiliyah, with two verses, namely, Q.S. Al-Baqarah (2): 138, 266; and Isti\u27arah ashliyah with two verses, namely Q.S. Al-Baqarah (2): 138, 256.ConclusionThe data illustrates the existence of the isti\u27arah majaz which cannot be separated in understanding the Qur\u27an in particular. Q.S. Al-Baqarah. Therefore, this study suggests the need to explore the science of balaghah and further research on other suras in the Qur\u27an

    The Negative Impact of Monodisciplinary Tradition in Arabic Language and Literature Studies

    PurposeAs the title suggests, this paper discussed the monodisciplinary tradition of studying Arabic language and literature which became an obstacle for scientific publications or other dissemination activities.MethodThe qualitative study made a library research design whose primary data sourced from journal articles, books, research proposals/thesis, and online sources. Careful reading and analysis were applied to get the intended data useful in answering the problems being investigated. The collected data and relevant information were qualitatively analyzed using Ricoeur’s Hermeneutics.Results/FindingsThe found out many negative consequences of the using of a monodisciplinary study. In general, the study of Arabic language and literature had lack of research significance, depth of analysis, and criticism. It was neither lack of originality nor creativity. In addition to the mono-disciplinary study tradition factor, the teaching university paradigm and poor learning traditions became another contributing factor.ConclusionA mono-disciplinary in studying Arabic language and literature did not contribute significantly to its development. It was necessary to use multidisciplinary intra/interdisciplinary paradigm as a trend in the teaching and studying of Arabic language and literature in the world by which various shortcomings lessened

    Islam and Communist Power Relation in Najib Al-Kailani’s ‘Adzra Jakarta

    PurposeThis study examined the battle of the arena of power between Islam and communism that occurred in the dark events in Indonesia in 1965 through the Najib al-Kailani novel’ \u27Adzra Jakarta. MethodThis qualitative research applied a narrative case study design made uses of Najib al-Kailani novel’ \u27Adzra Jakarta as the main unit of analysis. To analyzed the data, the study used Pierre Bordieu’s concept of power relations to dismantle the arena fight between Islam and communism in Indonesian history through the capital ownership of figures. Results/FindingsThe results showed a lame power relationship between Islam and communists. Islam in \u27Adzra Jakarta is described as inferior because it has only two capitals, while communist ideology holds symbolic capital which includes the other three capitals; Cultural, social and economic capital. However, if you look further at the defeat of Az Zaim by the main character, Fatimah, and his death at the end of the story are symbols of the text\u27s partiality to Islamic ideology. ConclusionThe study concluded that the novel \u27Adzra Jakarta reaffirms the perception of the latent danger of the communist ideology constructed by the Indonesian government. Through the main female character, the novel also supports women movement emerged in Egypt.

    Structure of News Text on the Arrest of the Head of Front Pembela Islam in Online Media

    PurposeThe study was to find and describe the structure of the news text on the arrest of the Front Pembela Islam chairman in cases of violating health protocols in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic on BBC News Indonesia and Kompas.com online mediaMethodThe research was a descriptive qualitative by utilizing van Dijk\u27s model with a social cognition approach focusing on the text schemes which included macro structure, superstructure, and micro structure. The research data were the fragments of discourse of articles on online media BBC News Indonesia and Kompas.com which contained news of healt protocals violations. The research applied listening technique and a note-taking technique as a follow-up. To check the research data, triangulation and interactive analysis techniques were needed to analyze the data.Results/FindingsThis study foud out that the online media BBC News Indonesia and Kompas.com had a macro structure regarding the arrest of Rizieq Shihab for violating one of the Covid 19 health protocols, that was gathering crowds. the superstructure was found in the introduction, content, and closing; the microstructure section was found in semantics (background and intent), syntax (sentence forms and pronouns), lexicon, and graphics.ConclusionThe study concluded that according to the Teun A van Dijk scheme, the news on Rizieq Shihab\u27s health protocol violations during the Covid 19 pandemic of BBC News Indonesia and Kompas.com had a macro text structure, superstructure, and micro structure

    The Saudi Arabian Women Military Existence in the Islamic Perspective

    Purpose                  The purpose of this research was to explain in depth about the role of women army into Saudi Arabia’s military institutions in Mohammad Bin Salman regime. Method                   The study was a qualitative research with descriptive design using a primary data that were the journalists’ and academicians’ opinion or ideas. It used interviews with a researcher for the Center for Islamic and Occidental Studies, University of Darussalam Gontor, and with the journalist and academician from King Saud University. The study also depended on the secondary data literatures review like book, journal, and official website. The data then were analyzed qualitatively using the Islamic perspective of the women role in life.  Results/FindingsAs a state which originally tightened the rules for women in the public sphere, the existence of women military in Saudi Arabia was a certain reformist. The engagement of woman military into the state affairs has contributed to Arab Saudi’s security stability that becomes the heart of Middle East as the most frequently visited by foreign people. It has a positive approach for improving the security system of Saudi Arabia as a global image builder. ConclusionThe urgency of women military in Saudi Arabia is to answer the public needs and service. Women Military in Saudi Arabia become a non-combatant for manifestation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia\u27s vision to provide an opportunity for women into the public sphere. The Saudi Arabia\u27s women military still maintains sharia principles as a political instrument.

    Distinctive Marker ‘-an’ on the Lingual Unit in Online Mass Media Diction

    PurposeThe Indonesian language continues to experience extraordinary developments as seen from its vocabularies. However, the large number of vocabularies turns often caused errors and mistakes in choosing diction pairs in an article, especially in the mass media. Therefore, this research needed to be done to classify vocabulary ending in -an based on its form, category, marker, and meaning. It was aslo intended that the vocabulary contained in the Indonesian language could be classified according to their classes.MethodThe study made use of primary data sourcing from the written language. The data came from online daily newspapers, namely pikiran-rakyat.com, republica.co.id, and mediaindonesia.com. In analyzing these data, the research applied descriptive and prescriptive qualitative methods.Result/Findings The result of the study indicated that the final form of -an in Indonesian vocabulary had certain categories, markers, and meanings. This happened because of the similarity or identical form of a word.ConclusionThe research concluded that there were word forms ending in -an functioning suffixes and someothers were part of the word itself

    Integrating Personal Moral Values in Teaching Literature in English as a Foreign Language Setting

    PurposeThis paper aimed at exploring the existence of the integration of personal moral values within the process of the teaching of literature in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) setting in an Islamic University in Indonesia.MethodAs a part of the personal literary competence being performed in approaching literary texts, in this case study, literature instructors in EFL setting were seen as approaching the teaching of the English Literary texts through the framework of Borsheim-Black’s Critical Literature Pedagogy. It was a pedagogical framework for merging goals of critical literacy and canonical literature instruction consisting of two stances of reading literature: reading with the text and reading against the text.Results/FindingsIn this study, the stance of reading against the text became distinguishable since the findings showed that both literature instructors inadvertently articulated their personal moral values in approaching the teaching of English literary texts within the classroom although the objectives of the courses did not focus on teaching moral values.ConclusionThe study concluded that these instructors have a certain perception towards the integration of their personal moral values in the reading of literature and the teaching of literature in EFL setting. Hopefully, such assumption will be studied in further research

    Hegemonic Practices in Hussein Al-Wad’s Sa’ãdatuhu As-Sayyidul Wazĩr Novel

    PurposeThis article aimed to describe the hegemonic efforts made by the ruling regime in strengthening its power, as recorded in the novel Sa\u27ãdatuhu As-Sayyidul Wazĩr. This article also revealed the social problems that occurred in Tunisia as a result of the application of the hegemony that was exercised during the regime of Zine El Abidine Ben Ali. MethodThis qualitative study used a library research design that relied on the novel Hussein El-Wad’s Sa’ãdatuhu As-Sayyidul Wazĩr as the primary data source, while the secondary data sources were various literature in the form of books, articles, websites and other information related to the research topic. Results/FindingsThe study revealed the problem of hegemonic practices carried out by authoritarian regimes for decades, both in civil society and political society. The long-standing authoritarian rule had resulted in the country to cope with various problems, such as rampant corruption, increasing unemployment rates, and the deprivation of civil rights of Tunisian citizens. ConclusionThe practice of hegemony as a power strategy carried out by the ruling regime, Zainal Abidin bin Ali, did not work well, as a result various social problems emerged which resulted in the collapse of power and public trust in his government.

    KH. R. Ansnawi’s Thoughts on Nationalism Values against Colonialism and Imperialism

    PurposeThe research aimed to explore KH.R. Asnawi’s thoughts as one of Nahdlatul Ulama founders, on nationalism and patriotism values against colonialism and imperialism in Indonesia. MethodsThis qualitative study applied a historical research design relying on KH. R. Asnawi’s works as the primary data source. The secondary data sources included books and journals discussing KH.R. Asnawi’s thoughts of nationalism and patriotism values. The research also implemented Focus Group Discussion to understand his thoughts comprehensively. The data collected was then analyzed qualitatively using historical and political approaches Results/FindingThe study found that KH. R Asnawi’s thoughts of nationalism was fiqh centric that he was a religious nationalist figure. While the statesmanship values contained in his works included unity, justice, love for the homeland, and divine values. ConclusionThe study concluded that KH. R. Asnawi’s thoughts of nationalism and statesmanship values belongs to the integrism type influenced by theology, fiqh and pesantren education.
