The Effect of Parental Rejection on Children’s Personality Depicted in The Willoughbys (2020)
PurposeThis current study aimed to analyze the effect of parental rejection on children in The Willoughbys (2020) movie. The focus of discussion in this study was centered on the first child of the Willoughbys family, namely Tim Willoughby. MethodThe method used to help analyze the data is a qualitative method. The data are taken from pictures and dialogues from the movies. Through the psychological approach, this study implemented Parental-Rejection Theory (PARTheory) to help analyze the effect of parental rejection presented in the movie. Results/findingsThe study showed that parental rejection affects children socially and emotionally. It influenced some aspects of children’s life. Tim Willoughby suggested that parental rejection affected his perspective of the world, his dependency level, his relationship with others, and also his mental state. ConclusionThe study concluded that the consequences of parental rejection contain features that can have the potential to last for a long time. Therefore, this study suggests that parents must take into consideration of their words as well as actions toward their children. They also have to pay close attention to their children’s development so that they can intervene if children show any symptoms that indicate problems
Teenager’s Resistance to Patriarchy in School: A Feminist Movement Representation on Moxie Film
PurposeThis research aimed to reveal the representation of patriarchy in school and teeanger\u27s feminist movement on Moxie film. MethodThis qualitative research study employed a qualitative content analysis as the design of the research. The data from the film were selected, collected and analyzed using representation theory by Stuart Hall and feminism approach.Results/FindingsThe result showed that Moxie represented patriarchy in school by portraying female objectification, represive school regulation against female, patriarchy in student\u27s reading material, male\u27s achievement glorification, and supporting attitue towards patriarchal practices. Since the female students experienced various disadvantages, the film also represented their feminist movement through the publication of anonymous feminist magazine, the action of females speak up in the public, embracing lesbian identities, the action of visual protest symbolism and act of solidarity, the activism on social media, and the action of school vandalismConclusionThe female teenager in Rockport High School resisted patriarchy in school by representing different feminist movements based on their personal experience and understanding of patriarchal practices and feminis
Large-Scale Social Collaboration Policy in the Food Sector in DKI Jakarta: A Socio-Cultural Perspective
PurposeThis research aims to reveal the implementation of Large-Scale Social Collaboration (LSSC) policy in the food sector in DKI Jakarta, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic seen from the socio-cultural perspective to produce a solution policy model. MethodsThe study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design as it tried to elaborate how the society perceived LSCC policy during the Covid-19 pandemic. The data of this research is the LSSC policy issued by DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, and the society\u27s perception and opinions sourced from aggregators, collaborators, and beneficiary communities. The data was got by conducting a review on LSSC policy, interview, and observation of the policy implementation process. FindingsThe study reveals the government of DKI Jakarta has implemented LSSC policy in the food sector during the Covid-19 pandemic well. However, there were several shortcomings must be improved, including data synchronization, socialization, and limited regulations by introducing two policy models, namely IEFFB and MATALI. IEFFB stands for improving DKI Jakarta\u27s food security, ensuring people\u27s food needs, fostering a sense of togetherness and care, forming a collaborative system between the government, private sector and the community to overcome common problems, and becoming a policy role model for other regions. MATALI that stands for motivation, actualization, trust, ability, leadership; and innovation is six important aspects of implementing the LSSC food sector policy. ConclusionThe study concludes that implementing LSSC policy in the food sector in DKI Jakarta still needs a serious improvement as a new policy solution for LSSC after Covid-19 pandemic.
Journal Article Writing Assistance Program: An Effort to Improve Publication in Islamic University
PurposeThis mixed-methods study aimed to explore how the Faculty of Humanities carried out Journal Article Writing Assistance Program (JAWAP) in 2021, and determine its contribution to the participants’ English articles. MethodThis mixed methods research used a convergent mixed methods design that relied on 17 participants’ perception towards its implementation as the main data collected using questionnaire, interview, and document analysis. The quantitative data were analyzed using correlational statistics and compared with qualitative data to confirm or dis-confirm each other. FindingsThe study revealed that JAWAP worked in an online scheme where the communication between the participants and reviewers did not occur intensively. The study identified weaknesses in the review process, such as the article’s compliance with the author guidelines, lack of interdisciplinary discussion and collaboration with others, and the deservedness to be published in internationally journals. However, the study shows the JAWAP contributed significantly to the participants’ English articles. ConclusionJAWAP as an assistance program can help the participants to write quality English articles. To increase its contribution to the English article quality, the faculty should conduct the program intensively during the writing process openly in an intensive communication between reviewers and participants in small groups
Local Wisdom: The Study of Takjil Selling Phenomenon in Jakarta 2017--2019
PurposeThe article aims to identify the phenomenon of Takjil selling which is rife in the month of Ramadan in Jakarta, which was carried out in 2017--2019 before the Covid-19 pandemic. MethodThis research used qualitative and descriptive research methods with a cultural anthropology approach. Various online information in the form of coverage of takjil selling in various places in Jakarta in 2017--2019 is used as primary sources. Results/FindingThe results found that there is local wisdom in the phenomenon of takjil selling. The takjil sellers are able to respond local conditions in the local environment around the takjil selling center by serving several Betawi typical foods in their menu. By selling Betawi typical foods and other numerous kinds of food that fitted to the consumers tastes, they can gain profit, help the consumers providing food for breaking their fast and preserve Betawi food. ConclusionThe research concluded that the phenomenon of takjil selling in the month of Ramadhan in Jakarta in 2017-2019 was not only revealed that there is a local wisdom in the activity of selling takjil but it is also a media to increase economic, strengthen solidarity among muslim and reinforce Betawi civilization.
Madzhabu Ar-Rumantikiyyah Fiil Adab Al-Arabi Al-Hadist ma’a al-Istimror wa At-Taghyir
PurposeThis study aims to explain the flow of romanticism along with the continuity and changes to con-temporary Arabic literature, and to be able to reveal dialogues about the flow of romanticism in modern Arabic literature, which is growing rapidly in the Arab world. Knowing the characteris-tics of Arabic literary Romanticism. Knowing the figures of Arabic Literary Romanticism. MethodThis study used a library research design and note-taking techniques. This research method uses aspects of library research with data sourcesof books and literacy related to romanticism in mod-ern Arabic literature: continuity and change. Results/FindingsThis study reveals the continuity and change as well as its influence on contemporary Arabic lit-erature, namely: 1) History of Arabic Literature in the modern era, 2) History of the Emergence of Western Romanticism in Arabic and its characteristics, 3) Development of Romanticism and its influence on Arabic Literature, 4) Figures of the Romanticism of Arabic Literature and their works. ConclusionRomanticism has had a major influence on Arabic literature, with the establishment of groups of Arabic literary, such as the Mahjar group, the Diwan school, the Apollo school and Usbah al-Asyrah. In addition, there is also a renewal of magazines and newspapers in the Arab world which call for renewal, and criticism of the previous flow (classicism)
Idiomatic Phrases among Banten Sundanese Local Language Speakers: An Exploratory Case Study
PurposeThere have been many studies on local languages in Indonesia. However, the study that focuses on Banten Sundanese Language, henceforth is BSL, seems to have not been widely studied, especially its idiomatic phrases. To reach the gaps, this present study aims to explore in-depth investigations about (1) the form of idiomatic phrases in BSL; (2) the use of idiomatic phrases among BSL speakers; and (3) the efforts to preserve the idiomatic phrases in BSL.MethodTo solve the problems, Pandeglang Regency in Banten Province was selected as the locus, and it involved 27 informants who were justified and snowballed. The method used in this research was a case study, with observation, interviews, and documentation as data collecting techniques.Results/findingsThe findings show there are 94 idiomatic phrases in BSL, and most of the informants (63%) claim that the phrases are limited in use.ConclusionIt concludes that real works are emerged in collecting and preserving the BSL phrases through: (a) using BSL as a colloquial language; (b) applying BSL as a compulsory course at both primary and secondary schools; (3) encouraging the regulations to rule the use of BSL among the speakers; (4) publishing BSL dictionary and other literatures; and (5) controlling the use of gadgets, smartphones, and other technological media for the children.
The Political Identity: Between Qur\u27anic View and Western Theory
Purpose:Identity nowadays has become very complicated in the political sphere. Political identity needs to be studied from two perspectives; Western theory and Islamic theory. Islamic political identity taken from the concept of the Qur\u27an. This research aims to reveal identity politics from these two perspectives, namely the perspective of the al-Qur\u27an and Western theory. Method:The library research method is used for this critical analysis research, which takes a qualitative approach. The qualitative method collected data and news references from books, journals, or trusted online sources. Results/Findings:The results show that there are contradictions in interpreting identity politics. Identity politics is often interpreted as something that is considered harmful. Through critical analysis, researchers found differences from the most fundamental aspects of understanding and theory to the value of their influence on society. Conclusion:Even though the theory of identity in the West existed and was developed by Henry Tajfel and John Turner, the theory is in line with how Islam views political identity as necessary as a political strategy that emphasizes differentiation and the utilization of primordial ties as its main category. Identity in the Qur\u27an is called Shibgah. The theory of identity, both in politics and outside politics, is correct and reasonable
Marriage and Women\u27s Subalternity in the Ecranisation of Layla Majnun’s Story
PurposeThis article aimed to explain the textual changes in adapting Layla Majnun\u27s story to the film Layla Majnun (2021). In addition, this article questioned the textual ideology of both works con-cerning marriage and women\u27s subalternity.MethodThis article was qualitative research using the literature method. The corpus of this article were the novel Layla Majnun by Nizami Ganjavi and the film Layla Majnun (2021) by Monty Tiwa. This article used Linda Hutcheon\u27s adaptation theory, the concept of subaltern initiated by Ga-yatri C. Spivak, and feminist concepts related to marriage.Results/FindingsThe results of this article show significant changes in the form of the adaptation of the story of Layla Majnun to the film. The changes are in the form of narrative structure, the meaning of mar-riage, and women\u27s voices. The story of Layla Majnun focuses more on the storytelling of male characters, while the film focuses more on the storytelling of female characters.ConclusionThe textual shift from novel to film influences changes in the ideology of the text concerning mar-riage and women\u27s subalternity. In the Layla Majnun novel, women are unable to speak out (subaltern) against repression from men concerning marriage. At the same time, the film Layla Majnun attempts to bring out women\u27s voices to articulate their will in marriage
Information Practices of University’s Civil Servants in Managing Family Archives for Asset Declarations
PurposeThis study aims to elaborate on the information practices carried out by university’s civil servants in managing and preparing family archives for asset declaration purposes by applying a theory of everyday information practices. This study uses McKenzie’s two-dimensional model which consists of Active Seeking, Active Scanning, Non-directed Monitoring, and By Proxy modes, along with the Connecting and Interacting phases in each mode. MethodThis study is a descriptive qualitative study and utilizes the data analysis method. Research data was collected through semi-structured online interviews. The informants were selected based on purposive sampling. Results/FindingsThe results of this study indicate that only three modes of information practices were applied by the university’s civil servants for asset declaration purposes. The three modes are Active Seeking, Active Scanning, and By Proxy. ConclusionInformation practices for archive management are a part of daily life. It cannot be separated from context such as the type of archive and for what purpose. It is clear that archival study is related to information practices
