Al-Dānī and the Codification of Qur\u27anic Waqf-Ibtidā\u27
This study explores the concept of waqf and ibtidā’ in the recitation of the Qur’an by analyzing al-Dānī’s book al-Muktafā fī al-Waqf wa al-Ibtidā’. As a crucial instrument in maintaining the semantic and theological integrity of the sacred text, this discipline integrates grammatical analysis, qur’anic exegesis, and qirā’āt. Al-Dānī classified waqf into four categories: waqf tām, kāfī, ḥasan, and qabīḥ—based on a multidisciplinary synthesis of oral transmission (riwāyah) and literary understanding (dirāyah), with reference to 20 classical authorities, 150 exegetical issues, and 617 grammatical studies. This qualitative research, grounded in content analysis, reveals al-Dānī’s influence on subsequent scientific codifications, such as the expansion of the waqf classification into eight types by Zakariyyā al-Anṣārī and the consolidation of ‘Uthmānī’s rasm criteria in Aḥmad al-Ashmūnī’s Manār al-Hudā. The findings affirm the relevance of isnād-based methodology in preserving the authenticity of the Qur’an while highlighting the dialectic between technical precision and interpretive flexibility within the Islamic scholarly tradition.

This study employs a content analysis method with a historical-critical approach to the text of Al-Mudâwî. The findings reveal that al-Ghumârî introduced a comprehensive Hadith criticism methodology by combining chain of transmission (sanad) and textual (primary) analysis while providing new assessments of Hadith status that often differed from previous evaluations. Al-Ghumârî\u27s significant contribution lies in his precision in identifying hidden defects (\u27ilal\u27) in Hadith and his ability to provide strong arguments for determining Hadith status based on strict principles of Hadith science
Accuracy and Synchronization of Hadith: A Study of Al-Akhlāq Lilbanāt by Sheikh ‘Umar Ahmad Baraja’
This study examines Al-Akhlāq Lilbanāt by Sheikh ‘Umar bin Ahmad Baraja’, a key reference in the moral education curriculum of many Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia. The main problem identified is the use of hadiths presented only in matan form without clear references to primary hadith sources, raising questions about their authenticity and methodological accuracy. The research aims to evaluate the validity of these hadiths through analysis of citation, writing accuracy, and consistency of meaning compared to reputable hadith compilations. Using a comparative thematic analysis, the study finds that Sheikh ‘Umar prioritizes pedagogical and moral dimensions over strict methodological precision in transmission. Although references are often missing, the meanings of the hadiths remain consistent with authoritative sources. The findings suggest that the book’s educational impact is strengthened by its contextual relevance, yet it would benefit from annotated editions that include verified hadith sources to enhance scholarly reliability
