Negotiating the Sacred and the Profane: Paradigm Shifts in the Tarekat Shiddiqiyah toward Economic Empowerment in Jombang, Indonesia

This study explores the shift in the spirituality of the Shiddiqiyah Order towards an economic empowerment paradigm in order to address modern Islamic issues. The Order is claimed to be a reflection of the decline of Islam because it only emphasizes spirituality, while neglecting worldly affairs. The order focuses only on religious and mystical rituals. They are passive towards social problems and changes. Therefore, this study reflects the spirituality of the Shiddiqiyah Order, which makes community empowerment a means to achieve perfection before God. This effort is referred to as a shift to negotiate the concept of ijtihad in the order. This is a qualitative study, with primary data taken from interviews with members of the Shiddiqiyah Order and several mursyids. The data was then analyzed using triangulation involving authentic sources. The findings show that the metaphysical shift to the profane realm (community empowerment) is a spiritual step towards achieving peace in worshiping God. This shift is based on three basic concepts of ijtihad, namely qiyas, istihsan, and istislah, which state that the existence of the order is to provide social peace through spirituality. This process is then called the negotiation of the spirituality of the order

This research examines the implications of the Indonesian Ulema Council's (MUI) Fatwa No. 83 of 2023, which supports the Palestinian struggle against Israeli occupation, focusing on its theological foundations, the concept of religious moderation, and the dynamics of economic jihad through the boycott of Israeli products. Utilizing a qualitative approach, this study analyzes the fatwa's position within Islamic jurisprudence and its impact on global humanitarian responses to the Israel-Palestine conflict. The findings indicate that the fatwa serves as a non-violent instrument, promoting peace and human rights while advocating for humanitarian aid to Palestine through zakat, Infāq, and donations. It also highlights the potential effects on Indonesia's foreign policy, urging the government to take a firmer stance in international relations regarding Palestine. Furthermore, the study discusses the effectiveness of the boycott as an economic strategy and its moral implications, emphasizing the importance of addressing the humanitarian concerns of civilians in both Israel and Palestine. Overall, the fatwa reflects a balanced approach to supporting the Palestinian cause while adhering to the principles of moderation and compassion inherent in Islam.

The Tension between Cultural Heritage and Individual Freedom: The JiLu Marriage Tradition among the Indigenous Javanese Community in Blembem, Ponorogo

This study investigates the persistence of JiLu, a Javanese customary prohibition against marriage between the first and third-born children of different families, as practised in Blembem Village, Ponorogo. Although JiLu lacks a formal legal or religious foundation, it continues to function as a binding social norm upheld through oral tradition, communal belief systems, and social sanctions. Employing a socio-legal approach, the research integrates qualitative data from in-depth interviews with traditional elders, affected couples, and local stakeholders, alongside a review of relevant literature. Berger and Luckmann’s theory of social construction—comprising the processes of externalization, objectification, and internalization—provides the theoretical framework to analyze how JiLu is maintained and reproduced. The findings reveal that JiLu operates as a symbolic system that regulates social behaviour, particularly in marital decisions, through emotional reinforcement and the fear of spiritual or social consequences. However, the norm’s authority is increasingly questioned by younger generations exposed to formal education, religious reinterpretation, and modern legal rationality. This generational shift highlights a growing tension between the preservation of collective cultural identity and the assertion of personal autonomy. The study demonstrates how customary norms can either adapt or erode when confronted with changing societal values, contributing to broader discussions on the dynamics of tradition, law, and individual rights in contemporary rural Indonesia.

The purpose of the study is to return to the conception of cosmology as something that is not only a natural material but also has an immaterial nature. This research used qualitative techniques based on the search bibliography. The concept of matter that developed during this period was influenced by the development of science. Initially, classical cosmology viewed the universe as a unity encompassing both physical (material) and non-physical (immaterial) aspects, including things considered sacred, such as God. The development of modern cosmology then separated its scientific approach from this sacred dimension. From there, the beginning happens crisis ecology begins with a paradigm shift. Therefore, shifting paradigms through revolutionary science allegedly contains problems that distance man from nature as well as cause damage to sustainable nature. Therefore, the research will discuss about shift in paradigm cosmology, modern science has resulted in crisis ecology, and will criticize as well as sit back to the problem with paradigm Islam. Researchers give a conclusion that crisis ecology today happens to leave from the crisis awareness man that not all matters must be measured with the material will, but there is more sacred that needs to be understood. Finally shift method view in the creation and natural universe makes the Conception of sacredness naturally lost, and the damage system that occurs today

Childfree is the view of married couples who decide not to have children. Childfree also became the talk of the Indonesian people when Gita Savitri, an influencer promoted the childfree campaign in Indonesia. Childfree has two perspectives: some view childfree as something that is allowed, and some reject it. In addition to causing various perspectives among the public, childfree also causes differences of opinion among people who are experts in Islamic science. Therefore, with the differences in opinions, views, and laws, the author is interested in making childfree a research problem that needs to be discussed. According to the Qur'anic verses, the author chose Tafsir Al-Mis}ba>h} to find the perspective of childlessness. The purpose of this research is to complement the shortcomings of previous studies from the religious side. Data processing in this article is through the tah}li>li> method. The tah}li>li> method itself is an analysis of the verses of the Qur'an studied from one verse, or letter, whose order is adjusted to the systematics of the Uthma>ni> mush}af. Tafsir Al-Mis}ba>h} views children from three perspectives, namely lust, humans are created in pairs, and children are sustenance.

The prevalence of mental health disorders in contemporary society underscores the need for effective psychotherapeutic approaches. While modern psychotherapy has made significant strides, the potential of Sufistic approaches, particularly in Islamic contexts, remains largely unexplored. This study examines the dhikr (remembrance of God) concept of Abdurrauf al-Singkili, a prominent 17th-century Indonesian Sufi, as a psychotherapeutic model. Through extensive library research, utilizing documentary techniques to analyze Abdurrauf's works and related scholarly materials, this study employs content analysis to elucidate his unique approach to dhikr. The findings reveal that Abdurrauf's dhikr concept offers a comprehensive Sufistic approach to psychotherapy, potentially serving as an alternative or complementary model in addressing current mental health challenges. Abdurrauf's conceptualization of dhikr as a means for spiritual fortification and psychological tranquility demonstrates remarkable parallels with contemporary meditation and relaxation therapy techniques. This research contributes to the growing body of literature on integrative psychotherapy, highlighting the relevance of traditional Sufistic practices in modern mental health interventions

Islamic Philanthropy and Humanitarianism: Hybridity and Institutional Dynamics of PKPU in the Landscape of Islamic Humanitarianism

This research aims to examine the phenomenon of transformation and hybridity practices in Islamic philanthropic institutions in Indonesia by carrying out research at the Pos Keadilan Peduli Umat (PKPU) from 2001 to 2023. This research employs a qualitative method, utilizing in-depth interview methods, observation, and institutional document analysis. The theoretical approach employed is the hybridity of Homi K. Bhabha, which is moderately helpful in explaining how Islamic philanthropic institutions have a role between two poles of values, namely normative Islamic values and global humanitarian values. This theoretical research also uses Marie Juul Petersen's institutional criticism model  to comprehend institutional integration, differentiation, and dynamics. The results of this research indicate that PKPU fundamentally changed its institution into the Human Initiative (HI) to take advantage of the global humanitarian market, expand humanitarian work, and manage institutions in the style of Western management by renegotiating its institutional identity while remaining spiritual but professional, Islamic but universal and able to connect to the global community. The PKPU also established two institutions, the Indonesian Zakat Initiative (IZI) and the Waqf Initiative (IWakaf), to focus on developing the potential of zakat and waqf for Muslims in Indonesia. The changes in PKPU show a dynamic, synergistic, and adaptive institutional development model to extend the market and innovation that continues to grow in humanitarian and development contributions
