CM-generator : an approach for generating customized correlation matrices.
The simulation of random correlation matrices is an essential procedure in different research areas. This study presents a method called Custom Matrix generator, which generates valid correlation matrices. Furthermore, we offer the possibility of generating matrices whose correlations are always contained in a pre-fixed interval. The method can also provide suboptimal solutions to the problem of generating correlation matrices with more advanced levels of customization. Custom correlation matrices are very useful for different applications in different studies. Moreover, the method is efficient regarding computational time and minimizes errors in generating customized correlation matrices
Marketing actions to fight Covid-19 : case study of the city of Rio de Janeiro.
The present work aims to discuss the marketing actions developed for the city of Rio de Janeiro to address the COVID-19 pandemic. The research, characterized as exploratory, adopted a qualitative method and used semi-structured interviews as data collection instruments with key stakeholders from SETUR-RJ and RioTur. The content analysis method (Bardin, 2011) was applied, which is a technique suitable for analyzing qualitative textual data.Through this study, it was possible to identify that there were actions developed in the city of Rio de Janeiro to deal with the pandemic period. However, the effectiveness of implementing these actions did not occur as expected. The consequences of this period had an impact on the image of the investigated locality. One of the contributions is the adoption of Herrera et al.'s (2020) 4Rs model in studies on crisis and risk management in tourism. This work also reflects on the particularities of the tourism phenomenon, as it must be understood and treated in a more complex manner when adopting marketing theories. The practical application of the 4Rs model can assist in reducing crisis situations. It is also noted that the public and private sectors should remain "prepared" for possible adverse situations, establishing joint actions while respecting their intrinsic characteristics
The methodology of narrative productions in bachelor’s degree in rural education : enhancing the construction of a new ethical paradigm.
Bachelor’s degree courses in Rural Education, present in several Brazilian higher education institutions, seek to develop formative processes capable of stimulating future rural educators to exercise a professional activity that articulates the training processes experienced in the academy with those experienced in the daily lives of their communities of origin. For this purpose, it is necessary to create strategies capable of promoting greater articulation and integration of the educational processes that exist in the different communities and territories of the students. The Methodology of Narrative Productions (MPN) presents itself as a pedagogical possibility in these courses by articulating, in the
elaboration of narratives, the biographical, historical, and social contexts of the students. By applying MPN in an integrated way to the activities of one of these courses with one of its students, it was possible to identify and deepen the educational experiences she lived in her community. The theory of situated knowledge (Haraway, 1995) and the emancipatory topic oriented toward a new ethical paradigm (B. S. Santos, 2011) guide the analysis of narratives by advocating the production of knowledge from dialogical spaces and the synthesis between existing and emerging knowledge. The narrative productions accomplished this objective by allowing the student to recognize the driving forces of her historical context, her directions, and subjects. It was concluded that the narratives
produced found similarity with the assumptions of Rural Education’s formation by field of knowledge, since they allowed not only an expanded understanding of reality but also an identity and reflective relationship about the context in which the student was inserted
On compact groups with Engel-like conditions.
Let G be a compact Hausdorff group. We show that if for every element x∈G
there exists a positive integer q=q(x)
such that xq is Engel, then G is locally virtually nilpotent. Furthermore, we show that if G is a finitely generated compact Hausdorff group in which any commutator [x,y]
in G is Engel, then the commutator subgroup G′
is locally nilpotent
High-pressure studies of atomically thin van der Waals materials.
Two-dimensional (2D) materials and their moire superlattices represent a new frontier for quantum matter research due to the emergent
properties associated with their reduced dimensionality and extreme tunability. The properties of these atomically thin van der Waals (vdW)
materials have been extensively studied by tuning a number of external parameters such as temperature, electrostatic doping, magnetic field,
and strain. However, so far pressure has been an under-explored tuning parameter in studies of these systems. The relative scarcity of high-
pressure studies of atomically thin materials reflects the challenging nature of these experiments, but, concurrently, presents exciting oppor-
tunities for discovering a plethora of unexplored new phenomena. Here, we review ongoing efforts to study atomically thin vdW materials
and heterostructures using a variety of high-pressure techniques, including diamond anvil cells, piston cylinder cells, and local scanning
probes. We further address issues unique to 2D materials such as the influence of the substrate and the pressure medium and overview efforts
to theoretically model the application of pressure in atomically thin materials
Self-handicapping strategies are performance configuration actions or choices
capable of increasing individuals’ opportunity to externalize (or excuse) failure
and to internalize (accept credit for) success. They involve creating or declaring
obstacles, either real or fictitious, before accomplishing a given task in order to
justify individuals’ likely poor performance and to reduce their accountability
for a likely failure. The aim of the current research isto present reflections about
ten studies focused on investigating the use of self-handicapping strategies in
Mathematics; the analyzed studies were selected in SciELO, PsycINFO and
ERIC databases. Results have evidenced several factors contributing to the
adoption of self-handicapping strategies in Mathematics, such as classroom
environment and support provided to students by teachers. Moreover self-
esteem and self-efficacy, which can affect one’s option for using self-
handicapping strategies, were key variables to help better understanding the
adoption of these strategies.
Elas envolvem a
plataformas SciELO, PsycINFO e ERIC.
This paper has the main goal, after a brief introduction, to present a complete translation into Portuguese verses of the Elegy 1, 3 by the Latin poet Tibullus, accompanied by explanatory notes and comments that provide not only a more immersive understanding of the poem, but above all highlight the historical conditioning factors of poetic composition in the Hellenistic Period, in which poetic production is not distinguished from the cultivation of literate tradition and the emulation, although often ironic, of previous models, the basis of its Poetics
Optimizing adjuvant inhaled chemotherapy : synergistic enhancement in paclitaxel cytotoxicity by flubendazole nanocrystals in a cycle model approach.
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death. In addition to new innovative approaches, practical strategies that improve the efficacy of already available drugs are urgently needed. In this study, an inhalable dry powder formulation is used to repurpose flubendazole, a poorly soluble anthelmintic drug with potential against a variety of cancer lineages. Flubendazole nanocrystals were obtained through nanoprecipitation, and dry powder was produced by spray drying. Through fractional factorial design, the spray drying parameters were optimized and the impact of formulation on aerolization properties was clarified. The loading limitations were clarified through response surface methodology, and a 15% flubendazole loading was feasible through the addition of 20% L-leucine, leading to a flubendazole particle size of 388.6 nm, median mass aerodynamic diameter of 2.9 μm, 50.3% FPF, emitted dose of 83.2% and triple the initial solubility. Although the cytotoxicity of this formulation in A549 cells was limited, the formulation showed a synergistic effect when associated with paclitaxel, leading to a surprising 1000-fold reduction in the IC50. Compared to 3 cycles of paclitaxel alone, a 3- cycle model combined treatment increased the threshold of cytotoxicity by 25% for the same dose. Our study suggests, for the first time, that orally inhaled flubendazole nanocrystals show high potential as adjuvants to increase cytotoxic agents’ potency and reduce adverse effects
Uplifting mountains and shaking deserts : volcano-tectonic earthquakes revealed by soft-sediment-deformation structures in Upper Cretaceous aeolian deposits.
During the last stages of Gondwana fragmentation, large regions of the newly formed South American
continent were covered by extensive deserts. Some parts of this continental landmass were synchronously affected by
pronounced tectonism and magmatism, which were responsible for reshaping the regional topography. In this context,
the southwestern part of the Sanfranciscana Basin in central Brazil is a key area for understanding this particular
period in the geodynamic evolution of the South American continent. Aeolian deposits of the Posse Formation in the
basin occur in direct association with volcanic rocks of the Upper Cretaceous Mata da Corda Group. Here, we report
evidence of synsedimentary magmatism in direct association with soft-sediment-deformation structures, including
flame structures, load casts and pseudonodules, water-escape structures, convolute lamination, faults, breccias, and
clastic dikes, developed exclusively in aeolian sandstone and siltstone facies. The deformation features are interpreted
as indicative of liquefaction, fluidization, and brittle behavior of the loose to partially lithified, wet sandy–silty
sediments. The Late Cretaceous aeolian sedimentation is contemporaneous with the uplift of the Parana ́ıba High and
associated magmatism in the Minas–Goia ́s Alkaline Province. In this context, these significant volcano-tectonic
activities are considered to have triggered ductile to brittle deformation in the reported aeolian deposits
