Introducing AMBER, the Apprentice Multiple Business GEnRes corpus

    No full text
Business communication involves a wide variety of genres, which tend to be identified on the basis of communicative purpose(s) and situation(s) (Bhatia 1993, Koester 2010). A broad distinction (Nelson 2000) can be made between professional genres used to do business and communicate to get work done within the framework of companies’/organisations’ activities (e.g. press/news releases, business meetings, social media posts, employee newsletter articles) and genres not issued by companies/organisations that are used to talk or write about business (e.g. news articles about the world of business, business studies lectures). A review of the literature involving specialised learner corpora and an examination of the Learner Corpora around the World webpage (https://uclouvain.be/en/research-institutes/ilc/cecl/learner-corpora-around-the-world.html) reveals that learner corpora which specifically target professional business communication by L2 learners are very much few and far between and tend to include only one or two genres (e.g. Connor et al. 2002). In addition, existing corpora are rarely readily accessible to the research community or provide no or very limited information about the learners (e.g. Allan 2018). This poster introduces the recently launched Apprentice Multiple Business GEnRes (AMBER) corpus, which aims to fill this gap in the learner corpus landscape. The focus of the poster is on the rationale behind this new apprentice computerised corpus collection project (e.g. providing a strong empirical basis to investigate genre awareness and knowledge among novice users of business genres or to examine novices’ writing process when drafting professional genres) and on its main corpus design criteria (e.g. specialised multi-genre, apprentice, multi-L1). Information about the core metadata recorded (following Paquot et al.’s 2024 Core Metadata Schema) is also provided (e.g. degree scheme, genre training, language(s) of instruction, L1(s), writing anxiety; detailed task instructions).

    No full text

Rediscovering Sustainable Entrepreneurship Education Through Entrepreneurship Practices

    No full text
This article explores how sustainable entrepreneurship education unfolds in primary schools, using a practice-based lens. Drawing on a multipleethnographic case study conducted in four Belgian classrooms engaged in an entrepreneurial project addressing environmental or social challenges, we analyze how entrepreneurial learning is co-constructed through situated, relational, mediated, and embodied practices. While the analysis is still ongoing, preliminary results can already be highlighted for one of the four cases

Probing Pairwise Protein-Protein Interactions with the Bacterial POLAR Assay.

    No full text
The PopZ-linked apical recruitment (POLAR) assay is an in vivo two-hybrid assay performed in Escherichia coli, using epifluorescence microscopy to visualize the recruitment of a prey protein fusion by a bait protein fusion tethered artificially at the cell pole. Here, we present a standardized protocol of the POLAR assay, specifically designed to investigate protein-protein interactions (PPIs) in the cytoplasm. Notably, the POLAR assay has been successfully used to validate potential PPIs identified through proximity labeling, highlighting its relevance as a complementary tool within the broader context of studying protein interaction networks

Tumor Segmentation on PSMA PET/CT Predicts Survival in Biochemical Recurrence of Prostate Cancer: A Retrospective Study Using [Ga]Ga-PSMA-11 and [F]-PSMA-1007.

PSMA PET/CT imaging has become a cornerstone in the management of prostate cancer, particularly in the setting of biochemical recurrence (BCR). While semi-quantitative parameters such as SUVmean have been evaluated as prognostic biomarkers in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC), particularly after the VISION trial, the prognostic role of volumetric measures such as Total Molecular Volume (TMV) remain largely unexplored, especially in earlier stages of the disease such as in biochemical recurrence following primary treatment. This retrospective monocentric study included 84 patients with BCR who underwent PSMA PET/CT imaging between 2020 and 2021 using either [Ga]Ga-PSMA-11(Ga-PSMA) or [F]-PSMA-1007 (F-PSMA) as tracers. Total tumor burden was assessed through manual 3D segmentation to derive whole-body Total Molecular Volume (wb TMV) and Total Lesion PSMA (wb TL-PSMA). Clinical and imaging variables were correlated with overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) using Cox regression models. Kaplan-Meier analyses were performed based on wb TMV and thresholds determined by the Youden index. A PSMA PET/CT correlation for BCR was identified in 69% of patients, with comparable detection rates between tracers (Ga-PSMA 67% vs. F-PSMA 63%, = 0.7). A higher wb TMV was significantly associated with worse OS (HR 2.20, 2.87 exhibited significantly poorer survival outcomes. A PSA at diagnosis > 17 ng/mL also predicted shorter PFS. Tumor segmentation from PSMA PET/CT imaging provides powerful prognostic information in patients with biochemical recurrence of prostate cancer, independently of the tracer used. The wb TMV represents a promising volumetric biomarker for future risk stratification and therapeutic decision-making, particularly in earlier stages of prostate cancer progression, where predictive imaging biomarkers remain largely undefined

    No full text

    No full text
This paper analyses the anti-slavery legal framework set by the Congo Free State in terms of labor. It introduces the scope of this State’s anti-slavery labor law, which establishes an exorbitant regime of the metropolitan labor law and which, because of its major shortcomings, led to the creation of an unprecedented virulent forced labor regime. The paper then examines the compatibility of this forced labor regime and its misuse to the anti-slavery international law of “civilized” nations. From this analysis, the paper illustrates the terminological divide between slavery and forced labor, the sadly famous “civilized” concept, the vague and carefree obligations that characterize this international law and the following reinterpretation of the obligations of the colonial States towards the “indigenous people” which legitimized forced labor and its abuse towards the “indigenous” of Congo. This paper concludes by highlighting the weakness of the institutional frame that the colonial States set up to be the exclusive judge of the interpretation and the application of anti-slavery international law and therefore escape from any international control

Cool-Tee: Client-Tee Collaboration for Resilient Distributed Search

    No full text
Current marketplaces rely on search mechanisms with distributed systems but centralized governance, making them vulnerable to attacks, failures, censorship and biases. While search mechanisms with more decentralized governance (e.g., DeSearch) have been recently proposed, these are still exposed to information head-start attacks (IHS) despite the use of Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs). These attacks allow malicious users to gain a head-start over other users for the discovery of new assets in the market, which give them an unfair advantage in asset acquisition. We propose COoL-TEE, a TEE-based provider selection mechanism for distributed search, running in single-or multi-datacenter environments, that is resilient to information head-start attacks. COoL-TEE relies on a Client-TEE collaboration, which enables clients to distinguish between slow providers and malicious ones. Performance evaluations in single-and multidatacenter environments show that, using COoL-TEE, malicious users respectively gain only up to 2 % and 7 % of assets more than without IHS, while they can claim 20 % or more on top of their fair share in the same conditions with DeSearch
