    Palm oil processing insdustries does not only produce palm oil but also produce palm waste. The palm waste is filth of palm processing result which is mostly used for fertilizer only and a few of it is used for fuel. The use of palm solid waste, which is not maximal, let the existing energy potency is wasted uselesly. The objective of this research is to calculate the calor value contained in the palm solid waste to be used asfuel of the boiler in palm industries and other industries. The experiment is conducted by burning the palm solid wasteby using calorimeter bomb in 8 mixing ratios. Each mixing ratio is tested 3 times to get the average calor. From the experiment result, it is obtained that the average calor values are: 100% shell = 23.529,47kj/kg, 100% fiber = 20.588,26 kj/kg, 100% empty bunch =18.382,39 kj/kg, 20% shell, 80% fiber= 21.568,67 kj/kg, 0% shell, 60%fiber, 40% empty bunch = 19.117,69 kj/kg, 10% shell, 60% fiber, 30% empty bunch = 19.607,89 kj/kg, 10% shell, 30% fiber, 60% empty bunch = 18.627 kj/kg, 20% shell, 40% fiber, 40% empty bunch = 20.098,08 kj/kg. Thus, the highest calor value is in the burning of 100% of shell and the lowest is in the burning of 100% of empty bunch

    Dessicated coconut is the main ingredient in the manufacture of coconut gongseng spices. Traditional methods of drying the grated cocont directly in the sun have constraints such as relatively longer drying time, products hygiene and supervisory personnel. Solar dryers conditioning system with a solar collector has been developed to overcome these constraints and tested in Lamlhom area, Aceh Besar. The research objective was to determine the effect of cloudy weather on the performance of solar drying system in term of the moisture content and the qualityof the ddessicated coconut. Tests carried out in the temperature range of 30C - 60C in a state of clear and cloudy weather. Tests comparing the two samples of coconut grater with a weight of 2 kg and 4 kg at two weather condition;sunny and cloudy. The experimental results of both samples on sunny and cloudy weather conditions indicate that the water content of the coconut water is still in the range of moisture content standards set by SNI 01-375-2000 which is maximum moisture content of 3%

This study is analyzing a power system with electric power load Meulaboh town by using a hybrid power generation system which HOMER between wind turbines and diesel generators. Wind resources are used is measured by BMKG Meulaboh Station, which is 6 m/s and the value of the price of diesel fuel used by the generator is equal to 0.5 /L.TheresultsofthesimulationisgivenbythevalueoftheNetPresentCost(NPC)andthelowest,intheamountof/L. The results of the simulation is given by the value of the Net Present Cost (NPC) and the lowest, in the amount of 66,535,084 for the value of Renewable Factor (RF) was 58% and for the value of Renewable Factor (RF), the largest at 71%, the value of the Net Present Cost (NPC) amounted to $ 68,091,256

    The use of flywheel as an energy storing device has been introduced in various mechanical systems. In this paper is discussed the use of it on a stationary bicycle. The flywheel technology is utilised on the bicycle to provide as well as distribute the load in cycling. The focus of the research is the affectivity of the flywheel usage considered from the vibration occurred. In this research, a new model of stationary bicycle is designed to have a reliable and comfortable stationary bicycle. Thus, the vibration caused by the flywheel is one of the concern that an experimental study has been conducted. Based on the experimental test it concluded that the vibration occurred is moderate that the design of the bicycle is acceptable for use

    This research designed and analyzed the use of current energy by employing the Darrieus turbine type H. This turbine was tested in an irrigation located in Bukit Meusara, Aceh Besar. It has a dimension of 0,3 m x 0,3 m with a blade shaped of NACA 0015 and tested on a variation of water speed flow of 1,43 m/s, 1,91 m/s and 2,16 m/s. An experiment on the influence of angle of attack was also done on -50, 00, 50 and 100. The results showed that the angle maximum turn was 90 rpm with the water speed flow of 2,16 m/s at angle of attack of 50. The maximum power produced by the turbine was as substantial as 26% of efficiency

    The aim of this thesis is to analysis the effect of using of guide vane in order to increase turbine rotation and power. This thesis is consisting of two stages. First stage is testing the turbine without guide vane and second stage is testing the turbine with guide vane. Testing was did at Gampong Juli Keude Dua, Kecamatan Juli Kabupaten Bireuen.The test did on three kind discharge, 0,14 m3/s, 0,12 m3/s, and 0,10 m3/s by using three kind of guide vanes diameter, 25 cm, 27 cm, and 29 cm. Based on experemental result, the best efficency is 80,9 %, given from the 29 cm guide vane diameter and turbine rotation on 610 rpm with discharge 0,14 m3/s

    The study is done to get an axial low head turbine design that gave good performance by using flat blade to further simplifying manufacture. The study is consists of three stages. First, designing an axial low head turbine. Second, manufacturing it and the last, testing on turbine performance. The testing that conducted to 3 m head use three kind of discharges, 0,14 l/s, 0,12 l/s, and 0,10 l/s. Three kinds of runners with blade angle, 30o, 35o, and 40o are also use in the testing. Based on the result of the test, it is known that the best efficency, 76%, turbine rotation on 613 rpm and power 2,013 kW is given by the blade angle 40o

    Foundry industry is very important in the development of both machinery and household products. Furnace is important utility in producing a product. Available furnaces in the market are very costly and difficult to obtain due to be imported from abroad. Responding these issues, in this study is designed and developed a furnace that is simple, easy to manufacture, portable and most importantly the price is low so that it is affordable for industrial-scale domestic foundry industry. The furnace is heated with LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) as the gas is economical and obtainable. Refractory stones are used as a heat insulator to increase the temperature in the combustion chamber to reach 1,000 oC. The heat can be set via the setting of gas that goes into the combustion chamber so that it can be adapted for different types of material with a melting temperature below 1,000 oC. The type of metal melted in this research is aluminum. The test results showed that the furnace is able to melt 0.39 kg of aluminum in 30.15 minutes

    The Use of Finite Element Method in Analysing the Dynamic Characteristic of a Rotor System

    Vibration analysis is very essential to be considered in designing a rotor system. The failure in rotor system parts can be avoided by understanding the dynamic characteristic. The objective of this research is to investigate the dynamic characteristic of rotor systems by using finite element method. Finite element method is used to reveal the system characteristic which is derived from the kinetic and potential energy equations. Some models of rotor systems are analysed to understand the dynamic characteristic. The natural frequencies are obtained from the eigen values. The simulation is carried out with the distance of disk from the support as the variable. The result shows that the distance between the disk and the bearing affects the natural frequency of the system

    The increase of population, followed by the increasing growth of the industry led to high demand of electricity. Many different ways have been done to find and use natural potential as electrical energy that can be used. The potential energy of water is one of the energy that can be converted into electrical energy maximally. One of still unused water potential energies is the water of Krueng Meureudu in Pidie Jaya. The river location is in Lhok Sandeng village, Meurah Dua sub district, Pidie Jaya. The width of the river ranges from 30 to 50 meter with the debit of about 1015 m3/ s. This can be used to generate electricity using Francis type water turbines to meet the energy requirements of the surrounding population. The first step in designing the turbine is to determine the turbine type based on the value of specific rotation (Ns) obtained from the head (H) and debit data (Q). Then, the design of main components, which are runner, shaft, spiral casing, guide vane and draft tube. Thus, based on the calculation, the dimensions and designs of the main components of the Francis turbine are obtained
