application/pdfCO² laser has the wavalength of 10.6 micrometers and this is well absorbed by water. Therefore, it is absorbed on the surface in tissue and the perviousness of laser falls. In order CO² laser light does not diffuse and does not have consumption of quantity of heat in the depths, strong diffusion takes place one after another on a surface. Laser light reaches deeply as a result, by the part which has water, only absorption takes place and the clinical effect is not acquired. That is, as for CO² laser, the oral soft tissue which exposed has many which can be adapted from both sides of the wavelength characteristic and superficialness of disease. This time, we report that from which CO² laser was applied to stomatitis among oral soft tissue diseases, the conventional treatment method was compared, and the good result was obtained.journal articl

application/pdfCementum plays an important role in tooth regeneration; however, the organization system has not yet been clarified. We have studied odontoclastic resorption in human deciduous teeth, and found that the cementum completely covers the enamel tissues of horse molar teeth. In order to study the regeneration system ofcementum, an EDTA soluble fraction extracted from horse cementum was analyzed. The 30 kDa protein was isolated from the EDTA fraction of horse cementum by hydroxyapatite chromatography and SDS-PAGE. Tryptic peptides obtained by Edman degradation of the 30 kDa protein were QDTGPRGPRGPAGP(1), GXRGFSLDGVK(2) and GYEFVITEHXLA(3). A search of the UniProt protein sequence database with peptide 1 and peptide 2 showed significant similarity to the two regions of Procollagen α 1 chain, residues 115-128(93%) and 266-277 (82%), respectively. The peptide 3 showed the highest similarity (85%) to the heptapeptide region of mouse Protocadherin 18. The 30 kDa protein would be a product from Type I collagen, a different splicing product translated from a 1 procollagen gene or a novel protein. Protocadherin 18 has not been identified in the oral tissues. This is the first report to find a protocadherin 18-like protein in cementum. Protocadherins are Ca-dependent adhesion molecules, and are highly expressed in the central nervous system. It is well known that protocadherins are involved in many biological processes such as tissue morphogenesis or cell differentiation events. Therefore, the protocadherin 18-like protein found in cementum might be expected to be involved in the regenerating system of cementum.journal articl

application/pdfThe Department of Oral Radiology at Matsumoto Dental University School of Dentistry has developed and created self-learning materials, based on Web materials using personal computers, in the clinical training of 5th graders since the 2002 school year. The aim of the development is to complement knowledge of Oral Radiology. In addition, CD-ROM versions of "Practical Diagnostic Imaging of Oral Radiology" and "Text for Clinical Training in the Department of Oral Radiology" have been produced to help students study at home. The results of a questionnaire targeting the students indicated that many students requested development of audio-visual materials corresponding to the National Dentistry Examination, based on the above-mentioned materials. Then, visual aids corresponding to multiple-choice questions (Oral Radiology) were developed. The content, problems at development time and prospects for the audio-visual materials were reported. Currently, there are various problems, for example how to make effective use of the audio-visual materials, help students develop interest in the materials and improve the PC environment. It is likely that the introduction of curriculum into the audio-visual materials, and enhancement as well as improvement in the material quality can lead to the resolution of several problems.journal articl

application/pdfRecently, many reports of research about the periodontal surgical treatment with Enamel Matrix Derivative (EMD) are performed. Usually, although evaluation of the bone formation using EMD was performed by the photograph X-rays photography in oral cavity or the orthopantomogpaphy, the condition of defect detailed by a two dimension picture was inaccurate. By carrying out using dental micro X-rays CT (3DX®) developed lately, it became possible to judge a bony condition of defect in three dimensions, and distinction of the recovery process of a bony defect part became easy. This time, we performed the reproduction treatment which used EMD to the patient with juvenile periodontitis. We evaluate bone formation by 3DX photography in preoperative and postoperative after three months, and six months, and report the case from which good recovery progress was obtained.journal articl

The Evolving Decline in Industrial Dental Erosion and It's Revised Detection and Management

application/pdfJapanese occupational safety and health laws require dental examinations for workers who have workplace exposure to strong acids and specific special chemicals. This study's dental examinations have been performed over the past eight years. Data in the form of annual images were collected during exams at a modern chemical production facility which uses various concentrations of nitric, hydrochloric and sulfuric acids with area ventilation and worker environmental chemical protection for those substances. Images of the front teeth and tongue were obtained once a year to monitor and improve detection of subtle dynamic changes in tooth surfaces and oral mucosa. Dental information concerning acid workers has reported a marked decline in the incidence of moderate to severe dental erosion in the past few decades. An innovation in the exam methods led to several interesting findings. Dental erosion in a reduced form was identified in about half of the workers, which suggests that erosion is still occurring even at a modern production facility. Dental erosion was most likely to be identified in plant workers with historical and routine exposures to acid quantities in excess of 100Kg. of acid exposure. In some workers, a subtle progression of dental erosion, not previously diagnosed through the normal on site visual exams, has been identified through digital dental images taken chronologically.journal articl

application/pdfWe reported a case of retention cyst arising in the submucosa of upper-labial commissure. The patient was a 65-year-old Japanese female who visited Matsumoto Dental University Hospital with her chief complaint of a swelling of the cheek. Histopathological examinations revealed some epithelial cysts with mucinous material, accompanied by chronic sialadenitis, in the muscular tissue.journal articl
