Scanning Electron Microscopic Investigations of the Shape of Toothbrush Filaments with Various Brushing Techniques II. The scond and the worst cases of plaque removal
application/pdfUsing 30 second-year students of the Matsumoto Dental College. School of Dental Hygiene as subjects, we performed investigations on toothbrush filament shape changes using 4 test toothbrushes and 4 different brushing techniques over 2 weeks periods. Also, observation by scanning electron microscopy was done for the toothbrushes which yielded the second and the worst effectiveness of plaque removal. The results were as follows: 1. The round-cut filament was worn semispherically or triangularly when using the rolling and Stillman techniques. Also, the round-cut and moving areas of the toothbrush body were worn significantly with the rolling and Stillman techniques. 2. The ditches at the filament edge were not as deep after two weeks of using the Bass and scrub techniques. There were deep ditches and scratches on the edge and center area of the filament with the rolling and modified Stillman techniques.journal articl
Ultrastructural Study of Varied Calcified Materials in the Pleomorphic Adenoma Occurring in the Soft Palate
application/pdfA case of pleomorphic adenoma derived from the palatine gland was studied with light microscope, transmission electron microscope and X-ray microprobe analysor. Some irregular basophlic masses were found under the light microscope in the stromal tissue close to tumor cells, which were ultrastructurally composed of needle-shaped crystals and bordered by a lamina limitans-like structure. Furthermore, transmission electron microscopic findings showed that numerous membranous vesicles with appatite deposited in various degrees were scattered between collagen fibers. These vesicles seemed to be matrix vesicles which may be related to a stromal change of pleomorphic adenoma.journal articl
白板症に対するCO²レーザーの使用経験
application/pdfRecently Carbon Dioxide Laser treatment has become more available as a method for oral and maxillofacial surgeons to apply in the treatment of soft tissue lesions in the oral cavity. This paper presents two cases of leukoplakia that were treated successfully with Carbon Dioxide Laser equipment, Opelaser-01. We consider that this treatment is one of the best choices for the superficially situated soft tissue lesion, such as leukoplakia.journal articl
Latencies of Reflex Discharges in Some Oro-facial Reflexes of the Frog
application/pdfUnitary reflex discharges were recorded from the branches of the trigeminal nerve innervating the submental and masseter muscles following electrical stimulation of the lingual branch of the glossopharyngeal nerve, the maxillary branch of the trigeminal nerve and the mandibular branch of the facial nerve. Reflex discharges were effectively elicited by repetitive electrical stimulation of afferent nerves, but the number of reflex impulses as well as the latencies varied from discharge to discharge. This suggests that the pathway of these reflexes is polysynaptic.journal articl
歯周病患者の統計的観察第3報 昭和58~60年における初診時の主訴とその処置についての検討
application/pdfWe investigated the periodontal disease of 252 patients (142 males and 110 females) who visited the periodontics department in the Matsumoto Dental College Hospital, from January 1983 to December 1985. The records of the periodontal patients showed the chief complaint, plaque control score, location of the complaint, Gingival index (GI), plaque index (PI), Calculus Index (CI), mobility, pocket depth, width of attached gingiva, degree of bone loss, the progress of the disease, its initial preparation and other clinical findings. 1. In October 40-50 year-old patients of both sexes were most numerous, and in most cases the chief complaint was unpleasantness. 2. The location of the chief complaint was generally the anterior teeth of both arches, and there were many cases in which the gingival index was 2, the Plaque Index was 1, the Calculus Index was 1, and mobility was 1. 3. The plaque control score at the first visit was 61-65% and the state of oral hygiene was bad. 4. Cases in which the pocket depth was 3.0mm and the width of the attached gingiva was 2.6-3.0mm were numerous. 5. Almost all of the patients visited the clinic with diseases in the mild stage. 6. Besides scaling and brushing instruction, temporary splint by wire and resin ligature were the most commonly used methods of periodontal treatment.journal articl
歯面清掃器の効果に関する電子顕微鏡的研究
application/pdfUsing electron microscopy, we studied the effect of cleaning the tooth surface with the cleaning and polishing device "Prophy 2000", the ultrasonic sealer, and dental engine. "Prophy 2000" gently produces a fine stream which contains air, particles of sodium bicarbonate, and warm water. We made clinical, macroscopic, and electron microscopic observations of its effectiveness in cleaning the surface of teeth without dental calculus. Results were as follows: 1) Compared with the ultrasonic scaler, the cleaning and polishing device was very effective in clinically removing discoloration. 2) Compared with the ultrasonic sealer and dental engine, the cleaning and polishing device was also more effective in removal through macroscopic observation. 3) Electron microscopic examination revealed the same results as macroscopic observation.journal articl
