Johannes de KethamのFasciculus medicinae(1491年刊)について
application/pdfThe Fasciculus medicinae of Johannes de Ketham, first published in Venice in 1491, occupies a unique place in the history of medicine as the first medical book to be illustrated with beautiful wood-cuts. Recently, an English translation of this book was prepared by the American scholar Luke Demaitre, materially assisted by the 1924 Lier facsimiles of the Fasciculus medicinae. Herein I review this book. It contains six wood-cuts and texts on sexual acts, drugs, pestilence, and so on. The wood-cuts focus on a circle of urine glasses, on venesection, flebotomy with planetary signs, on woman, on surgery, and on anatomy.journal articl
口腔領域のCT画像診断
application/pdfOver 250 CT scans of diseases of the oral cavity were obtained in our hospital between June 1988 and December 1989, using a whole body scanner (TCT60A, Toshiba), set for a 2 sec scanning time and 2mm slice thickness. CT images of 15 representative cases are presented here, along with one additional case for which an MRI image is presented. Three of the 14 cases were diagnosed with a 3-dimensional enhancement of the CT image. These results illustrate the suitability of CT scans for the identification of diseases of the oral cavity.journal articl
他科共同診療による口唇口蓋裂患者の4治験例
application/pdfThis case report presents a treatment rationale for 3 cleft lip and palate patients, and for 1 palate patient, who display underdevelopment of the mid facial complex. In order to create more favorable dental and skeletal conditions for the mid facial profile, palatal expansion of the maxillary complex and labial inclination of the maxillary incisors were orthodontically performed in the early stage of treatment. Total treatment procedures were completed by orthodontists, prosthodontists, and plastic surgeons.journal articl
Guy de ChauliacのChirurgia magnaにおける歯科学的記述について
application/pdfGuy de Chauliac, the greatest surgeon in the 14th century, wrote his Chirurgia magna in Latin, and this book was soon translated in to several languages and was widely read until the 16th century. In 1890, E. Nicaise made a comprehensive annotated edition of Chirurgia magna in French. In 1909, V. Guerini quoted articles on dentistry in Chirurgia magna from Nicaise's book in his work, A History of Dentistry. Recently, I read that Chirurgia magna was revised and enlarged by L. Joubert in 1585, and so I compared this edition with the articles on dentistry in Guerini's work. I found that Guerini had omitted many diseases treated by dentists, including ranula, aphtha, dislocation and fracture of the mandibula etc. Also, Joubert inserted Ambroise Pare's illustrations of dental instruments in his book.journal articl
電気化学測定法による歯科用合金の腐食試験 : その1 2元系銀合金の腐食試験
application/pdfThe electrochemical characteristics of binary alloys composed of silver and various amounts of copper, indium, tin, or palladium, were tested by cyclic voltametry in various kinds of solution. Four kinds of electrolytes were used : 1-mole parchloric acid solution, 1% lactic acid solution, 0.05% hydrochloric acid solution, and 1% saline solution. The results are as follows. 1) The oxidation and reduction mechanisms of the metallic elements differed for each electrolyte. 2) The silver element of the specimen surface produced a film of silver chloride in the solutions containing chloride ions, and it strengthened with higher concentrations of these ions. 3) For silver-tin alloys, a film of SnO_2 formed in all electrolytes, preventing corrosion of the alloy itself. 4) Different phases of the alloys were readily discerned by cyclic voltametry. 5) Solid phases of the alloys were similar to pure silver in their electrochemical characteristics. 6) Palladium ions, which were not observed to be released from silverpalladium alloys in previous reports, were found in the 1% saline solution after cyclic voltametry.journal articl
瞬時可撤式顎間固定装置の解除力に対する検討
application/pdfIn oral surgery, intermaxillary fixation is applied after surgical orthognathic correction of jaw deformities and fractures. Conventional methods of fixation require multiple stiff ligatures, which can not be cut quickly in an emergency, such as nausea or vomiting, to free the airway. An intermaxillary fixation appliance has been developed which can be quickly and easily released by pulling out the locking bow (third wire), but it is not known how much force is required for its operation. Accordingly, we measured the force needed to release the locking bow, which was found to average 3.6kg. From this result we consider the appliance to be useful in clinical practice.journal articl
頭部X線規格写真による日本人の機能性反対咬合に関する研究 : 予測下顎位と治療の推移について
application/pdfMuch of the research on functional Class III malocclusion is based on data taken in the intercuspal position or which includes cases where skeletal factors are significant; accord-ingly many aspects concerning the diagnosis of this condition, the evaluation of the efficacy of treatment, and changes in maxillofacial morphology after correction of the anterior cross bite, remain obscure. In this research, morphological changes in the face, teeth, and jaws, which occurred after correction of the anterier cross bite with an activator, were examined using lateral cephalograms in cases of functional Class III malocclusion showing little abnormality in the maxillomandibular relationship. The data come from 12 males (aged 7 years 5 months to 10 years 10 months, averaging 8 years 8 months) and 12 females (aged 7 years 1 month to ll years 2 months) showing functional Class III malocclusion. The predicted posttreatment position of the mandible was obtained from lateral cephalograms taken in the centric position at the time of the initial visit. The following conclusions were obtained from the results of these investigations. 1. A clear difference was recognized in the cephalometric values for the position of the mandible between cephalograms taken in the intercuspal position and those taken in the centric position, indicating the importance of obtaining data for the centric position in cases of functional Class III malocclusion. 2. From a comparison of the predicted and actual posttreatment positions of the mandible, the accuracy of the method of prediction was confirmed. 3. After correction of the anterier cross bite in these 24 cases of functional Class III malocclusion, a reduction in the A-B (FH) value was observed in 16 cases, and no change or an increase was found in 8 cases. 4. Among the cases showing a reduction in the A-B (FH) value, a positive correlation (r=0.57) was observed between the A-B (FH) and the N-B (FH) values. In cases showing no change or an increase in the A-B (FH) value, A-B (FH) was found to be correlated positively with ANS-PNS (r=0.76), and negatively with the ramus(r=0.75). 5. Statistical analysis of the data showed that it is difficult to predict, at the time of the initial visit, whether the A-B (FH) value is likely to decrease after treatment, as opposed to remaining stable or increasing.journal articl
