Transchondroid Bone Formation Displayed in BMP-Induced Heterotopic Osteogenesis
application/pdfIt has been stated that BMP induces undifferentiated mesenchymal cells to become chondrocytes in the first stage of the BMP-induced heterotopic osteogenesis. The cartilage is replaced by bone in a manner similar to that in normal endochondral (indirect) ossification. It is suggested that the BMP induced-bone occurs through an endochondral-like ossification; however the cell differentiation patterns differ from those of the normal fetal endochondral ossification process. On the other hand, intramembranous (direct) ossification is observed in some cases. Therefore, we examined histopathologically the nature of the BMP induced heterotopic osteogenesis, that is, examining histological features that are more like bone than cartilage but whose cells were not distinguishable from chondrocytes. Round chondrocytes-like cells and smaller osteocytelike cells coexisted in the chondroid bone matrix. Furthermore, there were some chondroid patterns that still remained in the maturing bone matrix showing mosaic patterns. These findings seems to be a third ossification pattern, "transchondroid bone formation" , which was described by Yasui et al. (1997)11) in an experimentally distraction osteogenesis model in the rat. "Chondroid bone", a tissue intermediate between bone and cartilage, was formed mainly in BMP-induced
heterotopic osteogenesis.journal articl

デンタルプレスケールによる小児の咬合の変化
application/pdfRecently, many studies have evaluated occlusion in children. We examined here, occlusal changes in children ranging between dental ages II A and IV A using the Dental Prescale System and the following findings were obtained. 1) There were no significant differences in the occlusal contact area, mean biting pressure, maximum biting pressure, occlusal force, or number of contact points between genders of the same dental age. 2) The contact area, occlusal force and number of contact points showed maximum values in children at III A and IV A. 3) The maximum biting pressure gradually increased from II A to IV A except for III A when there was a temporary decrease. 4) The mean biting force was increased in children at III B and III C due to a decrease in the number of teeth involved in occlusion, and showed a gradual decrease as dentition developed with age.journal articl

application/pdfThe science of rheology deals with the general flow and deformation behavior of all types of materials. There are two important properties of blood which characterize its rheological behavior, the blood viscosity function and the blood yield stress-shair rate. The whole blood viscosity shows the characteristics of a non-Newtonian fluid. These characteristics is necessary to understand the intricate peripheral blood flow function. Recently, the accumulated rheological knowledge is very vigorous applied in clinical medicine. Therefore, a brief review of blood rheology with fundamental theory on its application in surgery are present, and a some data which obtained by our experimental studies concerned with the blood viscosity on the circulatory system of the body, especially the microcirculation, the relationship between the viscosity characteristics and the peripheral tissue blood flow is shown with respect to blood rheology. Under the circulatory system in mongrel dogs, the peripheral tissue blood flow increase with Hct (systemic hematocrit) at all sites of measurement in the high Hct group, reached a peak of 1.39±0.24 at point where Hct was reached 1.14±0.08 relative control values. At higher Hct levels, the blood flow decreased; it was 0.66±0.14 at a maximum increase in Hct of 1.43±0.13. In the low Hct group, the blood flow tended to decrease with Hct. These results suggest that an increase in Hct to 1.14±0.08 as compared with a control value has a favorable effect on the microcirculation despite a increase in the blood viscosity and that a decrease in the blood flow of the microcirculation in spite of a decrease in both the whole blood and plasma viscosities. As the effect of Prostaglandin E, (PGE_1) to the tissue blood flow, PGE_1 improves the blood liquidity in the microcirculation system due to the membrane transmutability of the red blood cell, but that, in an ischemic lesion such as intestinal membrane, the blood flow more affected by the reduced mean arterial pressure than by the effect of low blood viscosity. Blood rheology is an interdiciplinary field, involving the application of knowledge derived from many disciplines of basic sciences to understanding of the pathophysiological roles and the therapeutic implications of blood rheology in clinical disorders or emphasis. Further advances in research on hemorheology requires an interdisciplinary approach.journal articl

カエル水応答の中枢神経機序 2.摘出脳幹標本における三叉神経および舌下神経の反射性放電
application/pdfOur previous studies revealed that application of tap water to the oral mucosa of the frog elicits an oral reflex in which rhythmical movements of buccal respiration cease and the buccal pressure rises. To demonstrate the pathway and central mechanism of this reflex, we studied reflex neural discharges of the trigeminal nerve elicited by electrical stimulation of the glossopharyngeal nerve using brain stem preparations in vitro. Removal of the cerebellum did not eliminate the reflex discharge. Dissecting the ipsilateral wall of the medulla oblongata close to the glossopharyngeal nerve terminal eliminated the reflex discharge. The findings indicate that the cerebellum is not related to the reflex, and the proximal, but not the caudal, region of the solitary nucleus is essential for the reflex.journal articl

application/pdfAfter creating a titanium particle sintered-hydroxyapatite coated porous implant and applying it to the mandibles of Japanese macaques, the following results were obtained from the histological observations of 3, 6, 12 and 24-month progress examples. 1) On the titanium smooth and lustrous surfaces, there was a bonding of the neonatural bone without fibrous connective tissue 6 months after the operation. 2) In the titanium particle sintered area, there was penetration of the fibrous connective tissue in the vesicle 3 months after the operation. Twelve months after the operation, bone tissue surrounding the particles was observed. 3) In the hydroxyapatite coated porous area, bone tissue appeared in the early stage around the coated porous layer. Six months after the operation, there was chemical-bonding between this interface and the bone tissue. 4) By applying the hydroxyapatite coated porous part to the implant, better fixation was obtained earlier, the retention of the implant become stable and the hyperplasia of the bone in the titanium particles sintered area was promoted. As a result, better retention and fixation were obtained for long-term functioning.journal articl
象牙質に対するレーザー照射効果について : 第1報 各種レーザーのin vitroにおける形態学的研究
application/pdfTo evaluate the use of lasers as a means to block external stimuli to the pulp in restorative treatment of immature teeth, the effect of lasers on the dentinal tubule sealing was examined. For this purpose, 3 types of lasers with different wavelengths, CO² laser, Nd: YAG laser, and Er: YAG laser, were used to determine the optimum conditions of radiation. The results were as follows. 1. CO² laser was found to be capable of sealing the dentinal tubules. It was observed that when a power output of 2W at pulse durations of 10ms and frequencies of 10-30pps was applied, the Super Pulse was able to seal the tubules allowing no excessive carbonization or cracking. 2. Nd: YAG laser was also found to have a sealing effect on the tubules but it was accompanied by various degrees of carbonization and cracking. 3. Er: YAG laser showed no sealing dentinal tubules effect.journal articl
