We report here, two cases treated by second molar extraction. Class I molar relationship was achieved, and the third molar erupted in the area where the second molar existed. Get PDFapplication/pdfBone morphogenetic protein (BMP) is an important bioactive protein. BMP was first described by Urist (1965) and has been investigated for its heterotopic osteogenetic properties. rhBMP has been identified by genetic engineering techniques and the time will come when BMP can be synthesized in large quantities and used in clinical practice such as in dental fields. It is well known that a proper carrier is neccessary for BMP delivery system. Many materials, such as insoluble bone matrix, collagen and ceramics have been tested as BMP carriers. It has been stated that BMP induces undifferentiated mesenchymal cells to became chondrocytes in the first stage of the BMP-induced heterotopic osteogenesis. The cartilage is replaced by bone in a manner similar to that of normal endochondral ossification. It is suggested that the BMP-induced bone occurs through an endochondral-like ossification; however, the cell differentiation patterns differ from those of the normal endochondral ossification process. On the other hand, intramembranous ossification is observed in some cases. These reports indicate the intramembranous and endochondral ossification occurred independently in both composite systems. Our histopathological, histochemical, immunohistochemical and in situ hybridization findings of BMP-induced heterotopic osteogenesis are as follows: The examining histopathological features of chondroid bone are more like bone than cartilage, but cells in the chondroid bone matrix were not distinguishable from chondrocytes. Round chondrocytes-like cells and smaller osteocyte-like cells coexisted in the chondroid bone matrix. Both typical matrix proteins of cartilage (type II collagen) and bone (type I collagen and osteocalcin) were detected in the matrix of "chondroid bone" in the early phase of BMP-induced heterotopic osteogenesis. These results seem to be a third ossification pattern, "transchondroid bone formation". Furthermore, BMP was suggested to be applicable in clinical dental practice if a suitable and delivery system can be utilized at a future date.journal articl

Get PDFapplication/pdfIntraoral vertical ramus osteotomy (IVRO) is considered a useful method of orthognathic surgery in patients with temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction symptoms. We report here, a case of mandibular deformity with bilateral TMJ arthrosis, observed in a 26-year-old woman. The patient complained of both mandibular deformity and bilateral TMJ clicking sounds. Surgical correction of mandibular deformity by IVRO was successfully performed and the clicking sound disappeared after surgery. A Case of XXXXY Syndrome
Get PDFapplication/pdf男性でありながらX染色体を3本過剰に有する性染色体異常(XXXXY症候群)に遭遇したので,歯科的所見を加え,その概要を報告する。1.妊娠経過は,子宮内胎児発育遅延があり,在胎39週4日に頭位経膣分娩にて出生。出生時はApgar score3点(1分),5点(5分)と新生児仮死であった。2.患児は,合併症として肺動脈弁狭窄,尿道下裂,二分陰嚢,左内反足,心身発達遅滞および体重増加不良がみられた。3.手根骨の化骨状態は骨核数が3個認められ,暦年齢とほぼ一致していた。また,エックス線写真により,第一乳臼歯のTaurodont teethが認められた。4.側貌頭部エックス線規格写真分析より,骨格は全体的に小さい傾向が認められたが,下顎骨体長はやや大きく,下顎枝高は小さく,下顎骨が時計回りに回転していたjournal articl
Studies on the Castability of Pure Titanium (Part 4) Castability in case of casting molds with low gas permeability
Get PDFapplication/pdfThe purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of casting molds with low permeability on the castability of pure titanium with an all directional pressured type casting machine. Two types of phosphate bonded casting molds were used, T-INVEST and T-INVEST C&B. We reported high performance of castability of pure titanium with an all directional pressured type casting machine, if the permeability of the investment was lower as possible. Specially prepared metal sealed rings to decrease gas permeability of casting mold were used. Two sizes of sprue condition were prepared, 1.26 and 1.48mm, under a casting pressure of 8kgf/cm^2. Five sizes of casting molds were prepared with mold diameters of 25, 35,45,55 and 65mm. The following results were obtained: A high percentage of castability was gained in T-INVEST using a high gas permeability casting mold with the sealed ring. A low percentage of castability was gained in T-INVEST C&B using a low gas permeability casting mold with the sealed ring. Back pressure action in the casting mold of T-INVEST C&B seemed to produce negative effects regarding the castability. These results indicated that the sealed ring was effective to promote pure titanium castability with a mold of high permeability.journal articl
