    Moebius症候群の全身麻酔経験

application/pdfWe encountered a case of Moebius syndrome with mental retardation and trismus. The patient was 7-year-old male for whom dental treatment was scheduled under general anesthesia because of mental retardation. He was diagnosed with cerebral infarction by MRI at 5 years old. His face showed so-called 'mask-like face' due to facial nerve palsy and he needed assistance for almost all aspects of daily life. The patient demonstrated about 18 mm of oral excursion between the upper alveolar ridge and the lower incisor, as the upper incisors were residual roots. A・diazepam suppository (4 mg) was administered 90 minutes before the start of anesthesia. After the establishment of a venous route, anesthesia was induced with thiopental sodium (50 mg) and nasotracheal intubation was done after the administration of vecuronium bromide (1.5 mg). The anesthesia was maintained with oxygen (21/min), nitrous oxide (31/min) and isofulurane (0.4 to 1.0%). Caries treament for 4 teeth, extraction for 5 teeth and extension of the frenulum of the upper lip were performed. The anesthesia was completed uneventfully after 3 hours and 15 minutes.journal articl

    乳歯列咬合完成期におけるFacemask装置の治療効果 : Burstone分析法を用いて

application/pdfThe purpose of this study was to examine the follow-up effects of early treatment with facemask in Skeletal 3 children associated with anterior cross bite. The group of 40 treated female patients was statistically compared with the group of 28 untreated females as control subjects by lateral cephalogram measurements to pretreatment (TO), post-treatment (T1) and post-retention (T2) using Burstone analysis. Post-treatment findings showed significant advancement of maxilla and backward rotation of the mandible. Post-retention findings remained as compared with those of post-treatment. Early treatment using a facemask appliance improved Skeletal 3 morphology.journal articl

The Effects of DMSA and DMPS on Arsenate Excretion in Mice

    Get PDF
application/pdfPrevious studies have shown that DMSA (meso-2, 3-dimercaptosuccinic acid, succimer) and DMPS (2, 3-dimercapto-1-propane sulfonic acid, Na salt, unithiol) are effective antidotes for pentavalent arsenate and trivalent arsenite because they reduce the mortality of mice poisoned with these arsenic compounds. Studies have also shown that in mice treated with arsenite, DMPS and DMSA promote excretion of arsenic into the bile and urine, respectively. This study was conducted to determine whether DMSA and DMPS promote arsenate excretion to the same extent as previously reported for arsenite. The results demon-strated that DMPS antagonized arsenate toxicity by improving excretion of arsenic, although to a lesser extent than in studies with arsenite, while DMSA showed a slight but statistically insignificant promotion of early arsenic excretion in the urine.journal articl

    簡易乾熱滅菌器についての研究 : 用いられるガラス小球と根管太さとの関係

application/pdfIt is speculated that the glass beads used in dry-heat sterilizers adhere to the sterilizing endodontic instruments, such as cotton pellets, and are carried into root canals resulting in the closing of root canals. This study was done to establish the smallest see of glass bead possible to use that would not close prepared root canals. The results were as follows : 1. In the case of the single rooted tooth with one root canal, almost no glass beads of 2.0 mm in diameter closed the root canals, and very few 2.5 mm beads closed the root canals. 2. In molars, it was observed that 2.0 mm glass beads could not enter the root canals at all.journal articl

Cardiac Arrhythmia Before Dental Treatment in Elderly Patients

    Get PDF
application/pdfSeventy-five dental patients between the ages of 65 and 94, who had previously been diagnosed as having cardiovascular diseases (CVD), were observed between January 1995 and August 1998. The visits were conducted either in the hospital or at home. There were a total of 477 patient-visits, and at each patient-visit, an ECG (lead II) was monitored for 5 minutes as part of a general health assessment before dental treatment. As a result, various arrhythmias were found. One patient was prescribed an antiarrhythmic drug because of ventricular bigeminy. Dental treatment was deferred for two patients because of multiple VPC or sinus tachycardia. In this study, we found that a potentially serious arrhythmia in patients with no history of arrhythmia, and routine pre-operative assessments including an ECG are recommended.journal articl
