application/pdfThe recent discovery of receptor activator of nuclear factor k B ligand (RANKL)-RANK interaction confirms the well-known hypothesis that osteoblasts play an essential role in osteoclast differentiation. Osteoblasts express RANKL as a membrane-associated factor in response to various factors such as 1,25 dihydroxy vitamin D_3, parathyroid hormone, prostaglandin E_2 and Interluekin-11. The recent progress of bone cell biology has been exploring the mechanism of tooth movement for clinical orthodontics. This review describes the recent studies on the differentiation and survival of osteoclast in orthodontic tooth movement.journal articl

application/pdfMedical information systems for consulting and input patienting patient data have been constructed and operated recently in many medical facilities. Data communication systems using wireless LAN been have also introduced in some medical facilities. Dental 3DX^[○!R] multi-image micro CT was introduced to the Radiology Department of Matsumoto Dental University two years ago, and the amount of data has increased proportionally to the number of the examinations. We introduced a wireless LAN, constructing and operating a network System, improving image processing ability and using a mobile terminal system to cope with increasing 3DX^[○!R] examinations. In this study, we investigated its usefulness and instructions. The wireless LAN transmitted 3DX^[○!R] image data to four notebook-sized personal computers. Although its transmission times differed slightly from those of the wire conection, it allowed image observation and reconstruction of four cases.journal articl

application/pdfIn this paper, I will discuss the dental education system in the United Kingdom. In the undergraduate course, the courses were divided into two sections: two years pre-clinical course and three years clinical course. The undergraduate students can join one year Intercalated Science Course (ISC) before they are promoted to the clinical course. When they finished the ISC, the Intercalated Bachelor of Sciences (Intercalated BSc) was obtained. They can also join an exchange student system named "Socrates". After graduation dental school, the students must train for one more year at a vocational training center. The General Dental Council (GDC) proposes to change this training period to two years in the future. Students decide which course to take after graduation. The United Kingdom has two postgraduate dental education facilities: the Eastman Dental Institute Oral Health Care Sciences in London and the Leister Postgraduate Institute in Edinburgh. At the Eastman Dental Institute, they have two postgraduate courses, one is an Academic Degree Course and the other is a Clinical Degree Course. The students can obtain Master of Philosophy (M. Phil.) and/or Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D.) through the Academic Degree Course. They can also obtain Master of Clinical Sciences (M. Clic. Sci.) and/or Master of Sciences (M. Sci.) through the Clinical Degree Course. The system for dental education in the United Kingdom is in the middle of reform, as is the system in Japan. The main point of dental education in the United Kingdom was to make dentists who can work for the good of patients in the local community.journal articl
