Documents of the Masuda Family can be said to be historical sources that allows us to think about the influential clan based in western Iwami, their territorial situation, and the concrete image of female inheritance from the early Middle Ages. In Chapter 1, I clarified the following situation. Each clan who claims to be the boss of each township of Iwami-Koku Nagano-sho (長野荘), such as Mononobe clan (物部氏) and Kino clan (紀氏), had adopted a marriage and adoption relationship with each other, with the Ryoke (Lord of the Manor 領家) of the Kyoto descent, and with a fairly wide range of clan of the same class. Since the time of the villa in the 12th century, external factors such as marriage with the Ryoke clan had been added to the local world of Nagano-sho, and the boss clan had also been affected by the official order in which only men were appointed. In Chapter 2, I considered the genealogy that is thought to show the way of inheritance in the Middle Ages, which is different from the Masuda family tree that shows the inheritance of the early modern period, and paid attention to the word “female capture (metori 女捕)” described there. I pointed out that since the inheritance of women was common in the Kamakura period, it was necessary to include it in the Goseibai Shikimoku (御成敗式目) as a crime of the Gokenin (御家人) society at that time. Finally, I clarified the situation in which the Masuda clan accumulated documents of the former lords to justify the newly acquired territories, and among them I pointed out that there were many female territories that can be called betsusoden (別相伝).departmental bulletin pape
