Male and Female Speech in Pride and Prejudice Novel by Jane Austen and Its Implication in Teaching Speaking
The study of gender is essential to the study of language. It is quite clear that male and female characters are different in many aspects. They not only different in their physical aspect but also in using a language. This research aimed to uncover the differences of a linguistic feature in the speech of male and female characters based on woman’s language theory revealed by Robin Tolmach Lakoff, linguistic features which are dominantly used by male and female characters and its implication in teaching speaking. Lakoff is a linguist who began the research of the feature of woman’s language. The data of this research were taken from conversations of male and female main characters in Pride and Prejudice novel by Jane Austen. Data collection technique used was documentation which was applied two steps they are reading the novel thoroughly and enlisting all speeches uttered by the main characters of the novel. The instrument of this research was Documentation Guideline. The researcher analyzed the data by using analysis technique according to Mile and Huberman, namely data reduction, data display, and verification. This research revealed that male and female character differs in their number of using of linguistic features. Female characters are stated use more lexical hedge, avoidance of strong swear word, rising intonation on declarative, empty adjective, intensifier, emphatic stress and super polite form than male do. Female characters use those features to show their uncertainty toward things; they tend to avoid strong swear word and use more superpolite form. Therefore, female expressions are considered more polite than male. Consequently, they can avoid friction in their conversation and build effective communication across gender. This result is in line with Lakoff theory. The researcher found that the feature which is dominantly used by male and female is an intensifier. Furthermore, the implication of this research in teaching speaking especially complimenting and interrupting expression as the functional expression is the student needs to exposed expressions of complimenting and interrupting appropriately
Motivation in a Foreign Language Teaching and Learning
In learning English as a foreign language, where learners are separated logistically and psychologically from the target culture, motivation plays a critical role and it is one of the main determining factor in a second/foreign language learning achievement. Motivation is defined as some kind of internal drive which pushes someone to do things in order to achieve something and to achieve success, someone needs to be motivated.Motivation is distinguished into different kinds, such as integrative and instrumental, intrinsic and extrinsic, global, situational and task. However, the most widely cited distinction of motivation is between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. In the field of language learning, motivation is sometimes distinguished from orientation. As an ideal for self-determined behavior, the intrinsic motivation is considered to be more powerful than extrinsic motivationin the success of learning a language, however, most of learning activities which the language learners do are initiated and driven by extrinsic motivation. There are three areas – goalsand goal setting, learning environment, and interesting classes – in which the language teachers could directly influence the language learners’ motivation and their continuing participation in the classroom. Providing positive feedback and enhancing the autonomous learning are among important means to increase the learners’ motivation. In addition, emphasizing two forms of positive extrinsic motivation – identificationand integration, while minimizing two forms of negative extrinsic motivation – external regulation and introjection could boost the intrinsic motivation of the learners.

It can be used as the contribution to English teaching and learning process and reference for further researchers in doing the similar research.
THE USE OF LITERACY-INSTRUCTIONAL CATEGORY TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION
This investigation examined the use of Literacy-Instructional Category on students’ reading comprehension. Particularly, there are two objectives of the study. The first is to explore the students’ writing improvement when they engaged in the first cycle of reading activities by employing literacy instructional categories. The second is to explore the students’ reading comprehension by using instructional categories. Thirty students from English Department of IAIN Salatiga participated in the study and they were in the third semester. A classroom action research was employed to answer the research problems. Three cycles were done to complete this action research. Based on the score result gathered from the cycles, the students’ reading comprehension improved. The student’s scores were not more than sixty because they did not understand intensively rereading activities in cycle one. But students’ score increased in cy- cle two and cycle three. In cycle three, rereading activities followed transformed practice (critical framing) lead the better improvement in their reading comprehension

PECHA KUCHA : A WAY TO DEVELOP PRESENTATION SKILL
This study is aimed at applying the adaptive Pecha Kucha technique to find out its effectiveness on students’ explaining skill, one of the skills that should be mastered among ELT Department students. This study uses a Quasi-experimental with Randomized Control Group Pretest-Posttest. The two groups (experimental and control group) selected will be ob- served in which the experimental group is going to be taught how to use adaptive Pecha Kucha, while the control group will be asked to explore the traditional model of PPT presentation. The data are gained through ob- servation, questionnaire, and comprehension test. The results show that the adaptive Pecha Kucha technique can develop students’ explaining skill, performance and comprehension. With a good preparation and clear per- formance rule, the technique shows to be more effective than the com- mon Power Point presentation. The data analysis of students comprehen- sion shows that the t-statistics was 6.44, while the value of t-table with the significance level of 5% and the Df (Degree of Freedom) 18 was 1. 734. It could be said that the t-statistics is higher than t-table. It also proved that the hypothesis which say there is significant different of exploring adaptive Pecha Kucha technique than students’ Power Point presentation is accepted. It showed that adaptive Pecha Kucha is really effective to do the presentation. Though, the students need more time and preparation, this technique is badly employed due to its effectiveness and to support the pre-service teachers’ development
THE GRAMMATICAL ERRORS ON THE PARAGRAPH WRITINGS
This paper makes a study of grammatical error on paragraph writings of English department students. The students were asked to write the paragraph of writing as their final assignment for paragraph based writing Class. The errors found in the students’ compositions are then classified based on the surface strategy taxonomy on errors of omission, addition, misformation, and misordering. Based on the result of the research findings whole have been analyzed and the discussions which have been presented, the writer generally concluded that there are four kinds of errors which are omission, addition, misinformation and misordering. The writer found that mostly the students had grammatical error on their writing in mis-information error 43%. They consist of misinformation of adverb, V2, subject-verb agreement, article, modal, passive and word choices. It also can be concluded that most students of intermediate level made Grammatical Error in Omission and Misinformation of their paragraph writing as Dulaay at.all (1982) said that Omission of to be is common error made by students. Even tough those sentences appear without to be, article or preposition and still have meaning, student must use the Grammar correctly or accurately in writing. Most students made grammatical error in using modal, for example of error in misinformatiom “We can learning all about English, after modal must be followed by main verb. It mostly happened on students’ writing. The most common types of errors made b y students are misinformation with the number of errors is 15 or 43% and o m i s s i o n with the number of error is 11 or 31%. The type of errors with the lowest frequency is misordering errors (9%). They consist of misordering of noun phrase and misordering of adverb. These errors seem to be caused by interlingual and intralingual interference
THE CONSTRAINTS OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF TEAM-BASED LEARNING IN CLASSROOM ACTION RESEARCH CLASS
The previous research that I conducted, the use of Team-Based Learning in Classroom Action Research (CAR) class is well accepted and gives a good influence on the students’ learning. To have a responsibility to teach Action Research and to keep being reflective as a teacher, I am interested to implement TbL in anoth- er class of CAR which is aimed at knowing the constraints of its implementation and how the students cope with those constraints. The design of the research is qualitative research. The participants are one class of Classroom Action Research class consists of 16 students. The instruments are observation and questionnaires. The findings show that the constraints on the implementation of TbL in CAR class are dealing with the material, team work, and incomplete team member. To cope with the constraints, the students have dis- cussion and ask for opinions among the team member. In addition, instead of discussion, to have complete team member is the pos- sible solution to cope with the constraints
