Civilization and Savageness: Milton’s concept in Observation Upon the Articles of Peace with the Irish Rebel
Get PDFミルトンの作品の中では，清教徒革命時に執筆された散文の政治的パンフレットは，文学的価値が低く，ミルトンの他の文学作品とは関連付けて論じられてこなかった。本論では，『アイルランド反乱軍との和平条項その他についての見解』が書かれた状況と，イングランドとアイルランドの関係性を考慮に入れつつ，ミルトンが「文明」と「野蛮」という概念をミルトンがどうとらえていたかを論じる。また、「文明と野蛮」という観点から『見解』とミルトンの他の詩作品との関連性を論じる。Among Milton’s works, political pamphlets in prose written during the Puritan Revolution have not been appreciated as literary works and have not been discussed in relation to Milton's other literary works. This study examines "Observation Upon the Articles of Peace with the Irish Rebels" to explore how Milton viewed the concepts of "civilization" and "savageness," as well as considering the historical context in which it was written and the relationship between England and Ireland. Revisiting Developmental State Theory in East Asia and Latin America
Get PDFThe concept of the developmental state is seminal to analyzing both the economic success of East Asian nations and the failure to achieve such success at the same level for Latin American countries. The main argument here is that the internal political, social, and economic maturity of a society shapes the form of its integration into global society and international markets. The greater the maturity, the less vulnerable a nation is to external political and economic shocks. Thus, the analysis of the problems of economic development must emphasize domestic factors for the economic outcomes of a nation. These factors include primarily state-society relations and the balance of class forces within society. The configuration of social forces permitted the state in East Asia to coordinate local industrialists, international capital, and society at large in a national effort towards economic transformation. In so doing, it was able to shape, and not be shaped by, the international environment. This was not the case in Latin America where the state was essentially captured by outside interests. An alliance of local industrialists, labor, and the state, with the support of transnational capital, led the way towards a regrettable strategy of slow growth, inequality, and poverty.departmental bulletin pape

Get PDF本稿（２）の目的は，公共的価値という概念そのものを対象とした体系的な研究の意義と課題を明らかにすることである。具体的には，公共的価値を構成する様々な価値を特定したうえで，複数の視点からそれらを体系的に整理した全体像（フレームワーク）を構築するとともに，このフレームワークを用いた実証研究を展開する一連の研究を取り上げる。次に，そうした研究の内容を概説したうえで，価値研究の意義と課題を明らかにする。The purpose of this paper (Part 2) is to clarify the significance and tasks of a systematic study of the concept of public value itself. Specifically, this paper discusses a series of studies that identify the various values that constitute public value, construct a framework that systematically organizes them from multiple perspectives, and develop an empirical study through the use of this framework.
