Challenges in Sustainability-related Education for Professional Accountants

    Get PDF
The growing interest of international and national accounting organisations in sustainability-related education has led to the creation of specific frameworks for professional accountants. This study examines the challenges in providing education in sustainability-related capacity building for Certified Public Accountants and Chartered Accountants to enhance the credibility of sustainability reporting. Assessing relevant documents provided by international and national professional accounting organisations facilitates organising compelling arguments on this matter and clarifies future research questions. The documents from international and national accounting professional organisations recommending professional accountants’ contribution towards sustainability and sustainability accounting and reporting have little focus on the quality of accountability and responsibility of companies for the social and environmental impacts produced by their corporate activities. Rather than this substantive discussion of the significance of sustainability accounting and reporting based on accountability towards sustainability, the focus has likely been on the technical ability to meet investors' demands for disclosure of sustainability-related risks and opportunities affecting the company's finances. Furthermore, consensus on the extent, definition, and execution of sustainability accounting and reporting is lacking, resulting in increased uncertainty regarding the role of sustainability accounting and professional accountants. These findings necessitate a further understanding the relationship between sustainability and accounting in designing sustainability-related education for professional accountants. The findings of this study contribute to the development of sustainability-related education for professional accountants.departmental bulletin pape

Development of decentralized materials data management system, and its application to environmental purification and battery materials

    Get PDF
論文To effectively utilize globally distributed materials data, we developed a prototype decentralized materials data management system. The secure, transparent, and efficient management of materials data was achieved using blockchain technology, smart contracts, non-fungible tokens (NFT), and interplanetary file system (IPFS) in Web3. The effectiveness of the prototype was also discussed in the case studies using performance data on materials used in environmental purification and rechargeable batteries.departmental bulletin pape

A Study of Coleridge’s Acceptance and Rejection of the Hartleyan Philosophy

    Get PDF
論文One of the two purposes of this paper is to overview Samuel Taylor Coleridge's acceptance and rejection of the Hartleyan philosophy in the relatively early days of his career. Coleridge, who had been familiar with Hartley's doctrine of vibrations by the middle of 1790s through his readings of various editions of David Hartley's Observations on Man (1749), became one of the contemporary ardent admirers of the new philosophy and showed his sympathetic views on several occasions. By the beginning of 1800s, however, it seems he started to get away from Hartley's doctrine. The other purpose of this pater is to ascertain the reason why Coleridge rejected the once accepted idea by closely examining his two-volume autobiography Biographia Literaria (1817). It will be pointed out that, according to the Hartleyan doctrine, it denies the human beings' raison d'etre as well as their humane sensations and thoughts, and therefore Coleridge realized that he could not cope with the fundamentally conflicting views any longer.departmental bulletin pape

An Experimental Investigation of Fatigue-reduction Effects Caused by Short-term Contact with a Large Dog: Healing Effects of Interaction with a Therapy Dog.

    Get PDF
In this study, we experimentally examined fatigue-reduction effects of short-time interaction with a large dog. In one (dog-therapy) condition, participants interacted with a large dog for a short period of time. In another (control) condition, they took a break for the same amount of time. Before and after these conditions, the degree of fatigue was measured using three indices, critical fusion frequency of flicker, visual analogue scale (VAS) on subjective fatigue (Japanese Society of Fatigue Science, 2017), and “Jikaku-Sho Shirabe”, a self-administered 25-item scale designed to measure the degree of subjective fatigue in terms of five different aspects (Itani, 2002; Sakai, 2002; Tachi, 2002). With respect to the critical flicker frequency, similar levels of fatigue reduction were observed in both conditions. Concerning the VAS scale, decrement of fatigue was observed only in the dog-therapy condition. On the results of the five aspects in “Jikaku-Sho Shirabe”, decrease in fatigue was observed in some aspects, while increase rather than decrease was observed in the other in the control condition. Meanwhile, tendency of fatigue-reduction was observed consistently in all aspects in the dog-therapy condition, all of which were greater than those in the control condition. The results suggest that fatigue-reduction effect of dog therapy is greater than and qualitatively different from that of a simple break.専攻(漆原): 学習心理学、アニマルセラピーdepartmental bulletin pape
