Survival and Longevity of Japanese Overseas Hotels: A Survival Analysis of Japanese Overseas Hotel by the Cox Proportional Hazards Model

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study is to measure the longevity  (survival rate) of Japanese overseas hotels using survival analysis and to identify the variables that influence their survival rate. The analysis results revealed that certain factors, such as the timing of market entry, the destination country, and the type of operation, positively affect the survival rate of overseas hotels.  However, as repeatedly noted from the outset, most Japanese hotel companies are privately held, making it difficult to obtain data on their financial status and business performance. As a result, firm-specific variables could not be incorporated into the analysis. Given the ongoing difficulty in accessing such data, careful interpretation of the analysis results is necessary.departmental bulletin pape

Development of Cooperatively Controlled Electrodes Based on Thermoresponsive Smart Polymers and Photothermal Conversion Materials

    Get PDF
We have developed cooperatively controlled electrodes, which consist of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) as thermoresponsive phase transition polymers and carbon nanofibers as photothermal conversion and electrode materials. The developed electrode successfully enabled autonomous and heteronomous switchable selectivity to analytes and electrocatalytic activity based on the phase transition of polymers, which were caused by environmental temperature changes or increase in the electrode temperature based on external near-infrared light irradiation. In the present review, we report our recent research topics.III. 論文集 1. レビューdepartmental bulletin pape

May Second Language Learning Delay the Onset of Dementia?

    Get PDF
This paper presents an interim report on a project aimed at maintaining and enhancing the cognitive reserve of older adults, with an average age of 68, by providing them with the opportunity to learn English through a tactile cognitive experience. The ultimate goal of this study is to investigate whether learning a second language, specifically English, can improve cognitive function and delay the onset of mild cognitive impairment and dementia in older adults in Japan. Currently, the project involves a small number of participants (n=10) and is limited to subjective questionnaire surveys, indicating that it is still in the early stages of research and no definitive conclusions can be drawn at this point. However, preliminary findings have revealed positive subjective feedback from participants, which suggests the potential for further research in this area.departmental bulletin pape
