The Effects of Handicraft Activities on Emotions and Mental Health: A Longitudinal Study Using Craft Kits
This study aimed to examine the relationship between handicraft activities and mental health. A longitudinal survey was conducted with women in their 30s to 80s who regularly engage in handicrafts. Participants created works using craft kits and completed surveys five times. The analysis revealed that active positive emotions remained consistently high, and when participants chose their projects autonomously, an increase in non-active positive emotions and a decrease in both active and non-active negative emotions were observed. Furthermore, those with more extensive experience in handicrafts exhibited more gradual changes in these emotions. On the other hand, while happiness followed a similar trend to positive emotions, no significant changes were observed in the sense of growth, self-control, or social connectedness, which decreased at the start of the craft kit activity and remained stable thereafter.departmental bulletin pape
Survey of Carbon Emission Quota Allocation Methods
This paper examines various methods for allocating carbon emission quotas, which are crucial for mitigating climate change. Carbon emission allowances, regarded as tradable commodities, assume a pivotal role in emissions trading schemes such as the European Emissions Trading Scheme (EU-ETS). The allocation method of these allowances impacts emission reduction costs, market equilibrium, and macroeconomic activities. Two primary allocation principles, namely equality and efficiency, are scrutinized. The paper discusses several main methods, including the indicator method, game theory, data envelopment analysis, and the weighted Russell directional distance model. The principles of fairness, such as the grandfathering method and benchmarking, are compared. The grandfathering method, which is based on historical emissions, is a widely accepted approach, but it has the potential to distort incentives by rewarding carbon-intensive firms. Conversely, the benchmarking approach, which is based on emissions per unit of output, circumvents these concerns but necessitates the availability of additional data. This paper aims to guide scholars in understanding and applying different carbon emission allocation principles and methods through a comprehensive review of existing research.departmental bulletin pape
Kaizen Practices and Firm Recovery Post-Covid 19: Evidence from Vietnam
This paper investigates whether the implementation of kaizen practices can enhance the recovery of Vietnamese firms following the Covid 19 pandemic. Kaizen is Japanese well-known working practices, especially in production to solve problems and achieve improvements in quality, cost and delivery. Kaizen has been introduced to Vietnamese firms through Japan – Vietnam collaborative programs for many years; however, its contributions remain unclear. Using a sample of Vietnamese firms surveyed by the World Bank, we find that the implementation of kaizen practices significantly contributes to the recovery of these firms in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. The findings offer implications for both Vietnamese policy makers and firms.departmental bulletin pape
Rhetorical Techniques in Woodrow Wilson’s Second Inaugural Address
This research paper delves into Woodrow Wilson’s “Second Inaugural Address,” delivered during his inauguration as the 28th President of the United States, and offers a comprehensive analysis of the rhetorical strategies employed in the speech. A primary focus of this study is Wilson’s adept use of rhetoric to sway individuals who were initially neutral and disinclined towards war, employing the threat of imminent danger to the nation as a rallying point to advocate for entry into the conflict while ostensibly guiding the world towards peace. The paper endeavors to uncover the hidden intentions in Wilson’s speech, evaluating his success in mobilizing American consent for entry into the war through the invocation of American Exceptionalism — summoning the spirits of a populace dedicated to the common good, placing divine obligations above personal interests, and utilizing various other rhetorical devices. The overarching goal of the paper is to help the readers to grasp the core message of the speech and discern the speaker’s intentions without being influenced by the speaker’s skillful application of rhetorical techniques. By promoting a dispassionate examination, this paper invites readers to impartially assess the necessity of war without succumbing to the emotionally charged atmosphere stirred by the speaker’s persuasive techniques.departmental bulletin pape
Comparison of the Forms of Portico in Este, Veneto
The study focuses on Este and depicts the process of urban transition. The aim is to examine the formation process of the city as a whole, focusing on the religious buildings and palazzos with known construction dates, as well as on the common people's houses. In order to determine the construction date of the general architecture, attention is paid to the portico. The shape of the porticos distributed in the common people's houses will be analysed to examine how the estates have been formed from an areal perspective.departmental bulletin pape
