Does the Pressure of Population and Poverty cause Deforestation?
Deforestation has created several negative impacts such as reducing biodiversity, decreasing life support system and increasing green house gases emission. Identifying the causes of deforestation is a key to tackle this problem. Various studies have been conducted to investigate the driver of deforestation in the world. Some experts believe that the pressure of population and poverty cause deforestation. On the other hand, the others argue that there is no relationship among the pressure of population, poverty and deforestation. This paper tries to examine the link of pressure of population, poverty and deforestation by reviewing some recent studies
Implementasi Reformasi Organisasi Perizinan Di Dinas Perizinan Kota Yogyakarta
This paper aims to review the implementation of the reform of the licensing organization in an effort to improve the quality of public services in Dinas Perizinan of the Yogyakarta city. It focuses on three aspects, namely: formalization, centralization, and specialization. This paper revealed that the level of formalization in Dinas Perizinan is influenced by the dynamics of socio-economic conditions and some regulation-related issues. On the aspect of specialization there are problems related to the insufficient number as well as competence of the staffs. Progress has been made in the presence of an intense coordination system to assure the responsiveness and accuracy of the service
Konflik dalam Penentuan Dana Bagi Hasil antara Pemerintah Pusat dan Pemerintah Propinsi Kalimantan Timur
This paper attempts to explain two basic analyzes related to the central conflict of Revenue Sharing between East Kalimantan Province with the central government. Firstly, the factor in revenue-sharing conflict between producing regions and the central government. The decentralization policy which is followed by fiscal decentralization makes the revenue sharing obtained under Law No.33 of 2004 on Financial Balance. Unfortunately, the policy is felt to be unfair to the area, because it is not comparable to the impact of the area, and there is no positive correlation to the public welfare. Secondly, the impact of the conflict other than to bear the social and environmental impact on natural resources exploitation also the potential of threatening disintegration. Vertical conflict between regional and central government, it can affect the horizontal conflict if the maintenance of the conflict is not good and don’t find the best resolution

Neoliberalism has create structurization process in post collonial states. The structurization is not only affecting the state souvereignty, but also shape norms and identity. By using the constructivist’s view of the "steering", this paper tries to elaborate patterns of disciplinary regime imposed by international development institutions toward post-colonial states. This paper assured that the post-colonial ties is not the attribution, but rather a construction that has a long process of the integration process in the previous phase of capitalism

Consequences, it accelerated the social tension and created a social conflicts. It has arisen as a result of difference interest between the local government and the local people in terms of natural recourses management of coastal area. This research as qualitative research aims to observe the unique of “Pasir Besi Conflict”. And, the type of predatory regime in this issue has strong exaggerated the conflict into horizontal and vertical conflict
The Paradox of Distance in Decentralized Indonesia
One of the most important promises of decentralization is to bring government closer to the people through improved public services and decision making. In contrast to this promise, the implementation of decentralization in Indonesia seems to create farther distance between government and the people resulting in the paradox of distance. This article argues that the paradox of distance in decentralized Indonesia is institutionally engineered. It is due mainly to unclear mechanisms for the people to hold government accountable and this stems from two main factors. The first one refers to the politics of functional assignment between central and local governments which benefits central government more than local government. The second factor is the macro institutional arrangements on the relationships between local government and the people where there is almost no way for local people to hold their government accountable or punish the underperformed local government. This article recommends significant transformation in the way the central government manages functional assignment to enable local governments to be more responsive to local people as well as reform of key political arrangements to make them more responsive and accountable to local people

Public opinion is one of important elements of democracy. Public opinion is considered as fifth estate of democracy. This paper examines public opinion concept and its position as fifth estate of democracy. It also tries to explore the challenges of public opinion as important factor for democratic political communication in Indonesia. It argues that the absence of public in political communication makes public opinion uneasy to become the fifth estate. This paper acknowledges the importance of public opinion in Indonesian democracy. Moreover, this paper explains how far public opinion draws Indonesian democracy

In the midst of direct election of public officials era (in Indonesia was marked by legislative elections/ includes regional representatives, election of president and vice president in 2004 and local elections since 1st June 2005), modern political communication relies heavily on the media to carry the political messages, mainly advertisements regarding themselves and the candidate program. The question then, when the media in Indonesia began to complement their roles, in accordance with the flow of media performance, media responsibility, media accountability, to the concept of role in the democratization of media (Media for Democracy monitor). With a starting point on these concepts, this paper tries to take some cases and the phenomenon as a discussion of earlier atempts to highlight how the media do its part in full and should be systematic
Menuju Pelayanan Sosial yang Berkeadilan
It is inevitable that the main weakness of social service management, whether committed by state or another actors, lies in the enforcement of justice. The root of the problem mainly lies on the social services approach which tends to be charitative and focuses more on image building. Charitative approach immediately raises the sense of unjust when the target group of clients are subordinate of service providers, while the image building motive tends to encourage the emergence of manipulative actions that offend the sense of justice. This paper offers an alternative idea of model in social services which is more equitable with emphasis on production process and mechanism, allocation and distribution of social resources to the public, as the essence of social service
