    No full text

    No full text

    No full text

The speed at which the COVID-19 pandemic spread across the world and the need to rapidly disseminate research outcomes highlighted the crisis of the traditional publication process, drawing attention to the scarce responsiveness to the rapid advances in research and technology, and to the global problem of closed access articles. The pandemic response created an urgency, and this urgency immediately prompted virtuous trends in academic publishing: new tools for researchers and readers, easily accessible data, a reduction in publication times (still ensuring high quality standards) and, above all, a move toward more open-access publishing. Firenze University Press has been one of the first promoter of this unprecedent "new deal" in academic publishing, and actively contributed to its realization with a rapid, open, and transparent approach. Starting from March 28, 2020 the Journals published by Firenze University Press launched a series of special calls for papers concerning the multiple and multifaceted issues related to Covid-19 in a wide range of fields, including biology, chemistry, education, sociology, economics, history, and so forth

    No full text

Tectono-metamorphic evolution of the continental units\ua0along the edge between Alpine and Hercynian Corsica

    No full text
In this work the central area of Corsica island was studied in order to reconstruct the tectono-metamorphic history of the continental and oceanic high pressure units that occupy the structurally deeper levels of the tectonic stacking of Alpine Corsica and their stratigraphic and structural relationship with the European margin (Hercynian Corsica). The study includes the geological mapping, the mesoscale and microscale structural analysis, the acquisition of chemical analyzes and micromaps with the microprobe, thermobarometric estimation through specific methodologies for metapelites, U-Th-Pb dating of zircons and allanites. The results obtained allows to reconstruct the geodynamic model of this sector of the Alpine belt from the Permian to the Burdigalian

Migrazioni in Italia: oltre la sfida

    No full text

Small Forgotten Places in the Hearth of Cities

    No full text
This book is the result of a research project designed and carried out at the Department of Architecture, University of Florence. This book discusses urban public spaces and, more specifically, run-down, inactive micro-spaces that are barely used due to their location, dimensions, morphology or semantic characteristics. In literature, these spaces are often defined as “residual urban spaces.” A large abandoned industrial area on the outskirts of a town or a small interstitial space in a historical centre can be residual. With respect to such a broad subject matter, the book seeks to radically limit the field, concentrating on public residual spaces found in the oldest parts of cities. The book reflects on this theme and introduces a method for reading and assessment of the residuality of public spaces in historical contexts (Residuality Assessment Process) which was tested in the historical centre of Florence. It is the authors’ view that residual spaces, above all if designed according to a system logic, can go from being problems to potential activators of urban and social regeneration processes, offering a useful contribution to improve city life

Models and Analysis of Vocal Emissions for Biomedical Applications

    No full text
The International Workshop on Models and Analysis of Vocal Emissions for Biomedical Applications (MAVEBA) came into being in 1999 from the particularly felt need of sharing know-how, objectives and results between areas that until then seemed quite distinct such as bioengineering, medicine and singing. MAVEBA deals with all aspects concerning the study of the human voice with applications ranging from the newborn to the adult and elderly. Over the years the initial issues have grown and spread also in other fields of research such as occupational voice disorders, neurology, rehabilitation, image and video analysis. MAVEBA takes place every two years in Firenze, Italy. This edition celebrates twenty-two years of uninterrupted and successful research in the field of voice analysis
