    A Syntactic Analysis on Noun Phrase Used in English Song By Ed Sheeran Album

    This study entitles “A Syntactic Analysis on Noun Phrase Used in English Song by Ed Sheeran Album”. This study analysis of Noun Phrase by using  Jumanto’s theory that indicate in his arrangement. This study focused only on the discussion underlined and coding of types of noun phrase. It was found that there are 118 noun phrase im 93 lyrics from the five selected song in the english song lyrics by Ed Sheeran album. There are 92 premodifier or 78%, 4 post modifier or 3,4%, and 23 premodifier and postmodifier at the same time or 18,6%. The most dominant used of noun phrase  in the English song was premodifierthat occurred by 92 data (78%). The finding of the analysis shows that the English Song by Ed Sheeran Album has all types of Noun Phrase. The arrangement by Jumanto’s theory it is easy to provide representation of the noun phrase

    The Influence of Learning Method and Learning Style of the Ability for English Students of Akademi Pariwisata Satu Nusa Bandar Lampung

    The purpose of this research is to know and analyze the effects of learning method and learning style to influence the ability for English students of Akademi Pariwisata Satu Nusa Bandar Lampung. This research consisted of forty two respondent on Akademi Pariwisata Satu Nusa Bandar Lampung. In the methode do applying for collecting data by documentation study, observation and interview, and then the angket. For processing data using the multiple regression analysis to know relation indefendent variable (X1) method of learning and (X2) learning style to influence defendant variable (Y) ability of English students. Furthermore in its data analysis using SPSS Statistics 24 program. In addition, the results of these research appeared that by significant 0, 05 for two side test 2, 5% and n =42 to obtain t statistics’s table 2,023. But t from testing  2,731 for method of learning, and 3,119 for learning style therefore method of learning  and learning style has positive significant influences for the ability of English students of Akademi Pariwisata Satu Nusa Bandar Lampung. This result could be explained that testing of  F and testing of t statistics. F statistics’s table 3,238 but F testing 9,141 by statistics’s table. Therefore,  it can be conclude that there is any positive significant influences on English students’ ability of Akademi Pariwisata Satu Nusa Bandar Lampung

    POSSE (Predict, Organize, Search, Summarize, and Evaluate) Strategy Towards Reading Comprehension Achievement

    This research aimed at finding out whether or not Predict, Organize, Search, Summarize, and Evaluate (POSSE) Strategy influence the students’ reading comprehension achievement of the eighth-grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Karang Tengah. The population consists of 99 students. The sample was 69 students taken through purposive sampling. In this research, the researcher used multiple-choice as an instrument for collecting the data. The data obtained from Independent t-test analysis, between the result of the posttest in the experimental group and the control group. Based on the calculation by using an Independent t-test, the researcher found that t-Obt. was higher than the t-table (4,115 > 2,000) and less than at the significant level α = 0.05(0.000 < 0.05) in a two-tailed test. So, the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. It can be concluded that the POSSE Strategy influence to teach reading comprehension achievement

    The Effect of Joining Non-Formal Education and English Achievement

    The study aims to investigate the correlation between joining non-formal education and the English achievement of the second-grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Palembang. The problems of this study were: Is there any correlation between joining non-formal education and English achievement of the second-grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Palembang? And What does taking an English course gives impact toward English achievement of the second-grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Palembang? The method of this study used quantitative research. The total number of the sample was 52 students. The questionnaire and document were used to collect the data which were analyzed by using Pearson Product Moment correlation and Linear Regression analysis. The findings showed that: (1) there was a significant correlation between joining non-formal education and English achievement (r= .845), (2) there was a significant impact of taking English courses and students' English achievement (p-value= .000)

    Story Mapping Strategy to Teach Reading Comprehension Achievement

    The objective of this study was to find out whether or not there are any significant differences between students who are taught by using story mapping strategy and students who are not taught by using story mapping strategy in teaching reading comprehension at the tenth-grade students of MA Subulussalam OKU Timur. This study used an experimental method, by quasi-design. Meanwhile, the population was the tenth-grade students of MA Subulussalam Oku Timur with total students were 151. The sample was 71 students, consist of two groups, namely experimental class consist of 34 students, and control class consists of 37 students which chosen by using purposive sampling. In this study, the writer used SPSS 16 to analyze. The result of this research shows that the story mapping strategy was effective in teaching reading comprehension at the tenth-grade students of MA Subulussalam OKU Timur

    This research is a study of the public speaking program conducted at  Nurussalam Islamic Boarding School. The purpose of this study is to know about how the Public Speaking program at Nurussalam Islamic Modern Boarding School and this research is qualitative research, in this research writer used the purposive sample, The writer only took the male students as the sample of research and with managers of the program that called as LAC and CLI, and the writer took the sample just for the students who are compulsory to speak English in public speaking, they are from class 3 until class 5, and The techniques of collecting the data used interview, observation, and documentation. The result of this study is an interest of the student in following that program, where public speaking programs are divided into 10 clubs and conducted only in two days it's Friday and Saturday with three languages are English, Arabic, Indonesian

    Teaching Writing through Process-Genre Method

    The main problem of this study was "Is it effective to teach writing through the process-genre method to the tenth-grade students of Islamic Senior High School NU Yosowinangun?". The objective of this study is to find out whether the process-genre method was effective to teach writing to the tenth-grade students of Islamic Senior High School NU Yosowinangun, writing ability of descriptive text. This research used a quantitative research method using the pre-experimental method. The population of the study was all the tenth-grade students of Islamic Senior High School NU Yosowinangun in the academic 2019/2020, with 106 students. The sample was 20 students taken by using one-stage cluster random sampling. The data were analyzed through the matched t-test formula to find out the effectiveness of teaching writing through the process-genre method. The technique for collecting data used a written test twice in the pre-test and post-test. Based on the result of the data analysis, it was found that the highest score in the pre-test was 69 and the lowest score was 41, and the average score was 52.8. While in the post-test, the highest score was 85 and the lowest score was 70, where the average score was 79, it was found that the value of t-obt was 18.7, where the value of t-tab was 1.725, at significance level 0.05 or 95% with a degree of freedom. . It can be concluded that the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. It indicated that teaching writing through the process-genre method to the tenth-grade students of Islamic Senior High School NU Yosowinangun was effective

    An Analysis of Imperative Sentences of the Martian Movie and Their Subtitling

    This study concerns with the "An Analysis of Imperative Sentences of The Martian Movie And Their Subtitling". This study purposes problems are What the types of Imperative Sentence on the Martian Movie and their subtitling?. The main objective of this study is to know the imperative sentence of the martian movie and its subtitling. Therefore, this analysis used a descriptive qualitative method, documentation technique is used in collecting the data. By this method, the writer uses the subtitling of The Martian movie as the source of data. Based on the findings, the writer found that there are 2 types of imperative sentences, namely; (1) positive imperative sentence consisting of 70 data or 84.33%, and (2) negative imperative sentence consisting of 13 data or 15.67%. The most occurred was a positive imperative sentence consisting of 70 data or 84.33%

    Empowering Speaking Achievement by Using Inside-Outside Fishbowl

    This study aimed to describe the implication of speaking achievement by applying inside-outside fishbowl (IOF) to the students of Tridinanti University Palembang. The total number of samples was seventeen of sixth-semester students of the English study program of Tridinanti University Palembang, they were selected by using purposive sampling. This study used classroom action research.  It consisted of two cycles; cycle I and cycle II. Speaking tests and observations were used to collect the data. It was found that there was a significant improvement in students' speaking achievement, the mean score of speaking achievement in cycle I was 64.47, and there was only 29.41% of the students who achieved predetermined minimum standard mastery. Based on the finding on cycle I, the writers needed to improve the students’ speaking achievement by conducting cycle II.  After did cycle II, the mean score of speaking achievement was 79.76, and there was 94.11% of the students who achieved predetermined minimum standard mastery. This strategy builds the students’ participation in doing discussion and helps them reflect on what a good discussion looks like. Using Inside-Outside Fishbowl (IOF) in EFL classrooms has helped both lecturers and learners in many different ways. It has a positive impact on both of them. Regarding students, IOF application in the classroom has helped them to think and organize their thoughts. As a result, they have started to manage their learning and to gain a sense of responsibility. Moreover, they have shown readiness to speak in the target language with more confidence and fluency. Students have begun to have opportunities so they can show how good they are in speaking and sharing ideas

    PLEASE (Pick, List, Evaluate, Activate, Supply, and End) Strategy Toward Student’s Writing Achievement on Recount Text

    The thesis entitled “The Influence of Using PLEASE (Pick, List, Evaluate, Activate, Supply And End) Strategy Toward Student’s Writing Achievement on Recount Text at The Tenth Grade of SMA Pangudi Luhur Sukaraja”. The problem of this study as follows “Is there any significant differences between the students who are taught by using the PLEASE strategy and who are not taught by using the PLEASE strategy toward student’s writing achievement on recount text at the tenth grade of SMA Pangudi Luhur Sukaraja?”. In this study, the writer used a quasi-experimental design. The population in this study was the tenth-grade students of SMA Pangudi Luhur Sukaraja, with the total of the population was 64 students. Whereas, the sample of the study was 40 students were taken by using purposive sampling, those were 20 students of X IPS1 as experimental group and 20 students of X IPS2 as the control group. Moreover, the writer used a written test. The data obtained from Independent t-test analysis, between the result of the post-test in experimental class and control class. Based on the calculation by using an Independent t-test, the researcher found that tobtained was higher than ttable (6.211> 1.697) at the significance level ɑ = 0.05 in a two-tailed test. So, the Null Hypothesis (H0) was rejected and the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) was accepted.  It can be concluded that there was any significant difference in teaching writing by using PLEASE Strategy in SMA Pangudi Luhur
