Transition Action Details (Tad) Strategy in Teaching Writing Recount Text
This thesis is entitled "The Use of Transition Action Details Strategy in Teaching Writing Ability to the Eighth Grade Students of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Rawabening". The objective of this study was to know whether or not there are any significant differences between the student who are taught by using the Transition Action Details Strategy and the student who is not taught by using it. This study used an experimental method, a quasi-experimental design. The population of this study was 47 students, and the sample was 47 students was taken by using purposive sampling, those were 24 students of the experimental group and 23 students of the control group. Based on the calculation by using an independent t-test by using SPSS 16, The writer found that t-obtained was higher than t-table (2.868>2.014) at the significant level a=0.05 in two-tailed testing. It meant that there were any significant differences between the experimental group and the control group. So, the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and alternative hypotheses (Ha) were accepted. It can be concluded that Transition Actions Details Strategy was significant in teaching writing ability to the eighth-grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Rawabening
Brainstorming Technique In Teaching Writing Descriptive Text
This study investigated the effect of the brainstorming technique to Increase Students’ Writing Skill at the Tenth Grade of MA YPI Darul Huda Lubuk Harjo. The objective of the study was to find and describe whether there any significant difference between students who are taught by using brainstorming techniques and the students who are taught by using the conventional technique to teach writing skills at the tenth grade of MA YPI Darul Huda Lubuk Harjo. Therefore, for this study writer used quasi-experimental design as the method. The population was 158 and for sample 58 students, a sample of this study used purposive sampling. In this study, the writer was collecting the data used a written test as an instrument, and it was analyzed by an Independent t-test using SPSS 16, the result showed that t –obtained was higher than t table (6,573 >2.000), and the value of sig (2 tailed) =0.00 less than the value significance level (0,05). It meant that there were no significant differences between the experimental group and the control group. So, the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and Null Hypothesis was rejected. It can be concluded that Brainstorming Technique was significant to increase students’ writing skills at the tenth grade of MA YPI Darul Huda Lubuk Harjo
An Analysis of Jargon Used on Facebook Found in Account “Mark Zuckerberg”
This study discusses An Analysis of Jargon Used on Facebook Found in account “Mark Zuckerberg”. Hopefully, this study useful for students of English Education, particularly to help them understand the jargon that is used in social media especially on Facebook. The goal of this study to find out the jargon used by "Mark Zuckerberg" in account Facebook. This analysis used the descriptive method because it is to describe the jargon meaning in the "Mark Zuckerberg" account on Facebook. The procedure of collecting the data are: (1) Reading and finding the status of “Mark Zuckerberg” account, (2) Identifying the jargon used in the status, (3) Marking and finding the meaning of jargon found in the status, and (4) Concluding the data analysis. Based on the finding, the writer found Fifteen jargons, ten jargons abbreviation, one jargon phrase, three jargon words, and one jargon acronym in the edition of January till May in 2020
Comic Strips Toward Students’ Reading Comprehension Achievement
This study focuses on the investigation of the influence of teacher’s teaching technique on student’s reading comprehension achievement using comic strips media. In this study, the writer used a quasi-experimental design. The population of this study is tenth-grade students of SMAN 1 Buay Madang Timurwith 122 students, meanwhile, the writer used purposive sampling as a method for taking a sample. Therefore, class X.MIA 2 was chosen as an experimental group that is taught reading comprehension using comic strips and class X.IIS 2 as a control group who were taught reading comprehension using conventional media. Moreover, the writer used multiple-choice descriptive text. Based on the finding, the mean score of the pre-test experimental group was 50.97 and the mean score of the post-test experimental group was 78.84. While the mean score of the pre-test control group was 38.40 and the post-test score was 43.07 and the result of analyzing the data using SPSS 16, P output was 0.000, It is less than the critical value significance level (0.05). It means that alternative hypotheses (Ha) is accepted and null hypotheses (Ho) is rejected. It can be concluded that there is any significance between the students who are taught by using comic strips media and the students who are taught by using conventional media
Draw Label Caption (Dlc) Strategy to Improve Students’ Writing Descriptive Text
The purpose of this research was to determine whether there was a significant difference between students who were taught using the Draw Label Caption (DLC) Strategy and students who were not taught using the Draw Label Caption (DLC) Strategy to improve the quality of descriptive text written by eighth-graders of SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Karang Tengah in academic year 2019/2020. The type of research used is quantitative research with experimental methods, with a quasi-experimental design. The population was 78 students, the sample was 50 students by purposive sampling. The research was collected using a written description test and analyzed with the Independent t-test SPSS 16, it was found that the t-obtained was higher than t-t (3.060> 2.021) at the significant level α = 0.05 on the two-sided test. This meant that there is a significant difference between the experimental group and the control group. So the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. It can be concluded that the Draw Label Caption (DLC) strategy has a significant on the improvement of the ability to write the descriptive text of eighth-graders of SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Karang Tengah
An Analysis on the Use of Derivational and Inflectional Morphemes in English Song Lyrics on Maher Zain’s “Forgive Me” Album
The primary thing to be learned in mastery a language is word. Word is dealing with morphology, because morphology influences spelling, reading comprehension, and vocabulary. In the way of understanding the meaning of vocabulary, language users need to learned morphology, especially derivational and inflectional morphemes. This study was designed to identify the derivational and inflectional morphemes and the functions of each derivational and inflectional morphemes are used on Maher Zain’s “forgive me” album. The result of this study are; (1) There were 13 derivational morphemes and 76 inflectional morphemes, and (2) The functions of every morphemes used on Maher Zain’s “forgive me” album, consist of function as adjective, plural, verb, noun, and adverb
Languge Hybrid; Code Switching and Code Mixing by Students of Islamic Secondary School in Banyuwangi
Code-switching and Code-mixing are commonly treated as a phenomenon of the spoken language, and in linguistics referring to using more than one language in conversation. This research is done in Al-Kautsar Modern Female Islamic Boarding School (PPMP Al-Kautsar) Srono, Banyuwangi with the participant are all of Al-Kautsar students. This research using the observation method. The steps for analysis are first, the researchers collected notes and transcripts. Second, each data are labeled. Third, all codes identified so that the results are obtained. The entire code mix/switching founded are included as interstitial code mix/switching. There are several factors in using Code-switching and Code-mixing. The first is because of the habit of adding certain phrases such as what is? as the replacement of certain words or phrases. The second is the lack phase of finding the right words from Indonesian, Javanese, or Arabic into English considering the conversation is expected to keep running. From the observation, it is known that the phenomena of code mix/switching are occurred to smooth the communication function
A Syntactic Analysis on Sentences Found in the English Textbook for the Tenth Grade Students Entitled “Bahasa Inggris Kelas X” (2017 revised edition) Published by Ministry of Education and Culture Republic of Indonesia
This study is an analysis of sentence structure by using a syntactic approach that portrayed in the tree diagram. This study focused only on the discussion covering the identification of types of sentence and sentence structure. It was found that there are 191 sentences from the six selected text in the textbook consisting of the simple sentence which has 53 sentences (27,75%), the compound sentence has 79 sentences (41,36%), the complex sentence has 33 sentences (17,27% ) and the compound-complex sentence has 26 sentences (13,61%) from the total number of the data. The finding of the analysis shows that the English textbook has all types of sentences, based on both several clauses and their syntactic properties. A drawing tree diagram is a fundamental skill in the study of syntactic structure; it is a common practice to provide a visual representation of the internal structure of phrase and clause. Tree diagrams are a clear way of representing syntactic structure graphically
An Analysis of Code Switching and Code Mixing in Fashion Program “I Look” on Net Tv
This study focuses on the form and function of code-switching and code-mixing used in the Fashion Program "I LOOK " on NET TV. This study is aimed to answer the following problem: 1.What is the forms of code-switching and code-mixing used in the Fashion Program "I LOOK" on NET TV, and What are the functions of code-switching and code-mixing in Fashion Program "I LOOK" on NET TV. To answer the problem, the writer used descriptive qualitative research through theoretical triangulation the total data 72 unit of analysis of code-switching found that 22 data used tag switching, 18 data used inter-sentential switching, and 32 used intra-sentential switching. It showed that intra-sentential switching is commonly used by Kimmy Jayanti in the fashion program "I LOOK" on NET TV. Furthermore, 127 unit data analysis of code-mixing performed 74 insertions of words, 48 insertions of phrases, 2 insertions of hybrids, and 3 insertions of reduplications. Meanwhile, there is 250 function of code-switching and code-mixing used by Kimmy Jayanti in the fashin program "I LOOK" in NET TV. They are quotation 1, addressee specification 24, repetition 1, interjection 31, message qualification 12, personalization and objectivization 15, and facility of expression 121
Pictures and Learning Motivation Towards the Eighth Grade Students’ Writing Achievement on Descriptive Paragraph
This research was concerned with an inquiry on the effect of the influence of using pictures and learning motivation towards the eight grades Students writing achievements on the descriptive paragraph of SMP Negeri 6 Pagaralam. The problem of this research was to find out whether or not there was an effect of the application pictures towards student's writing achievement on paragraph descriptive. Pictures strategy is a strategy that provides an opportunity for teachers to model exemplary pre-writing behavior and encourages students to set their purposes for writing. This enables students to become more motivated and active in writing a descriptive paragraph. Data collection employed pre-test and posttest for the experimental group. Data analysis was undertaken by using t-test and ANOVA. Findings showed that there was a significant effect of the application of pictures on student's writing achievement on a descriptive paragraph of the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 6 Pagaralam. The conclusion suggests that Ha was accepted while Ho was rejected. It means that using pictures was effective to improve student's writing achievement in a descriptive paragraph
