Elementi giudaici (e/o proto-cristiani) in Pap. Bon. IV? Alcune osservazioni

    No full text
This essay aims at rereading the so-called Papyrus of Bologna n. IV (Pap. Bon. IV) in light of Jewish and early Christian visionary accounts. Pap. Bon. IV appears as an account of an otherworldly journey in which the pains of the hell are described, like some apocalyptic narratives from Second Temple Judaism (for example, the Fourth Book of Ezra) and Early Christianity (the Apocalypse of Peter or the Apocalypse of Paul) seem to do. Pap. Bon. IV emerges as an actual 'trait d'union' between Jewish apocalyptic descriptions of the hell, early Christian accounts concerning the other-worldly pains and the Greek-Roman (Orphic?) visions of the other-world

The anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of 1,2-decanediol and willow bark extract in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated keratinocytes

The 1,2-decanediol (S-Mal) is an organic compound belonging to the 1,2- alkanediol family, with two hydroxyl groups located on the first and second carbon of the alkane chain, probably responsible for the enhanced anti-bacterial efficacy. The willow bark total extract (W-Mal) has been used since thousands of years as an herbal remedy for its antipyretic, analgesic, anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial activities. S-Mal is used in cosmetic preparations, whether W- Mal can be topically or systemically administered. Aim of our study was to evaluate in vitro the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of S-Mal and W-Mal, singularly or in combination, in LPS-stimulated keratinocytes

Italian Justice Under Trial: Insights from Knox v Italy - Federico II

    No full text
Violations of substantial and procedural rights recognised by the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and fundamental freedom are sanctioned by the European Court of Human Rights. In particular, this has happened in the Knox case where Italy has been condemned for the violation of the Artt. 3 and 6 of the European Convention of Human Rights which guarantee the prohibition of torture and inhuman treatment, the right to legal assistance and the right to the assistance of an interpreter. As a rule, where the Court recognises violations of substantial rights, it asks the defaulting State to repeat the process. If this is not possible, the Court applies the art. 41 “Just satisfaction”. The difficulty exists in determining situations in which the State is unable to remove the negative consequences of the decision deemed unfair by the Court. In this respect, it can be stated that in very rare cases it is possible to remove the consequences of the infringement or, in any case, a recognition on the actual possibility of removing them, therefore the effects of the Court judgment are generally reduced to a mere economic compensation. There are many profiles on which the speakers will be confronted in order to offer a consideration on the effectiveness of the protection of fundamental rights

People-nearby applications and local communities: Questioning about individuals' loneliness and social motivations toward people-nearby applications

    No full text
The present study aims to deepen the relationship between people's loneliness and relational motivations toward people‐nearby applications (PNAs) use, within the uses and gratification framework. Indeed, due to the spread of indifference and mistrust toward other citizens, local communities and the relationships within them can leave some individuals’ social needs unsatisfied. An online questionnaire, including the Social and Emotional Loneliness Scale for Adults—short version and the Cyber Relationships Motives Scale, was administered to 647 PNAs users (age: M = 26.76; standard deviation = 8.77); hierarchical regressions were performed. Individuals’ loneliness associated significantly with the search for love and the desire to meet new people when perceiving offline constraints, but not with the simple desire to meet new people. These results support the idea that PNAs could represent a mean to integrate the aggregation functions of local communities, allowing to find new people to meet nearby regardless of the constraints actually perceived. Being social relationships critical for individuals’ well‐being, understanding the unsatisfied individual needs underlying PNAs social uses and how these apps could be used within local communities could help in integrating people within their local communities and neighbourhoods again, fostering their well‐being too

3D DATA INTERPRETATION USING TREATISES GEOMETRIC RULES TO BUILT COFFERED DOMES

    No full text
The contribution is part of a research that aims to address the problems of knowledge, interpretation and documentation of coffered domes geometry. The main question is to define the relationships between the coffer shape, the layout used for coffers distribution on dome surface and different kind of surfaces. With regard to coffered domes we have analyzed the methods illustrated by Francesco Milizia, Giuseppe Vannini and some historical surveys. We have grouped coffered domes in relation to grid geometry and to coffer shape. We have defined three different ways to distribute the coffers in relation to different grid layout: grid composed by 2D lines (meridians and parallels), grid composed by 3D lines on surface (lattice of rhumb lines) or coffers distribution between ribs. We have analyzed each of them and we have defined algorithmic models in relation to spherical domes. The main goal of our research is to study what's different in not spherical domes, such as policentrical domes, ellipsoidal domes or ovoidal domes, generated using curves network. We have compared computational models based on treatises rules with particular case studies. This comparison allows us to do a critical analysis based on geometric rules. From a methodological point of view we have built a parametric model able to connect the different processes, using the same parameters. By comparing this model with point clouds, it is possible to evaluate analogies or identify new rules that will be used to develop a more complex parametric model based on surveys

    No full text

    Get PDF
The subject of the present thesis is an examination of the current situation of German public libraries regarding a potential use as a third place. This is achieved by an introduction to the theory in its original form and with regard to the practicality in public libraries. Subsequently, several examples of libraries that function as a third place in one way or another are elaborated, followed by the presentation and analysis of a study conducted among 400 public, full-time managed libraries in Germany. Finally, potential problems of a commitment to being a third place, but also potential gains of this endeavour are discussed
