    Virtual Reality Fitnesstraining Experience: Entwicklung und Evaluation eines VR-Gamification-Konzepts für ein hochintensives Intervalltraining auf einem realen stationären Fahrradprototyp anhand eines User-Centered Design Ansatzes

    ReMotion ist ein Team der grow platform GmbH, welches die besonderen Herausforderungen der Nutzer und potenziellen Kunden des modernen Fitnesstrainings mit einer innovativen Geschäftsidee lösen will. Dazu soll ein effizientes Training geschaffen werden, das an den individuellen Leistungsstand der Nutzer angepasst ist und ein hohes Erlebnispotenzial bietet. Mithilfe einer firmeninternen und eigens dafür entwickelten Bewegungsplattform, einem Fahrrad-Ergometer als erstes Trainingsgerät, sowie in zusätzlicher Kombination mit Gamification und Technologien, die das Eintauchen in die virtuelle Realität ermöglichen, soll so der Fitnesssport der Zukunft technologisch revolutioniert werden. Mit dem Ziel, die durch Kundenbefragungen identifizierten Herausforderungen von fehlendem Spaß und fehlender Motivation zu untersuchen, behandelt die vorliegende Arbeit das Thema Gamification in Bezug auf die Tätigkeit des hochintensiven Intervalltrainings auf einem realen, stationären Fahrradprototyp in der virtuellen Realität. Anhand eines User-Centered Design-Ansatzes und mehreren iterativen Entwicklungs-schritten wird das Konzept einer VR-Fitnesstraining Experience entwickelt. Dieses wird in Kooperation mit einem interdisziplinären Projektteam realisiert und anschließend von der Autorin dieser Arbeit evaluiert. Die Ergebnisse aus einer umfangreichen Nutzerstudie zeigen grundsätzlich, dass der entwickelte Prototyp ein hohes Potenzial für positive und freudvolle Erlebnisse sowie der Motivierung zu einer optimalen Leistung aufweist. Abgeleitet werden konnten sieben mögliche Einflussfaktoren, die mit dem positiven Ergebnis in Verbindung stehen könnten. Herausgreifend betrachtet wird der mögliche Anreiz des Flow-Erlebens, für dessen Einsetzen ein Zusammenspiel mit den anderen sechs Einflussfaktoren essenziell zu sein scheint. Außerdem wird in einer Erörterung der theoretischen Grundlagen zur Trainingswissenschaft festgestellt, dass in einem regulären Fitnesstraining zwei der vier in der Trainingswissenschaft definierten Gegenstandsbereiche aktuell wenig oder gar keine Berücksichtigung finden. Die Erkenntnisse dieser Arbeit deuten je-doch darauf hin, dass eine Integration, der noch nicht vorhandenen Gegenstandsbereiche in die Konzeption und Gestaltung eines Trainings ein positives Trainingserlebnis und leistungsmotiviertes Handeln begünstigen könnte. Abschließend wird anhand einer theoretischen und übergreifenden Betrachtung der Vorgehensweise zur Erarbeitung des Gamification-Konzepts, als Hauptgegenstand dieser Arbeit, ein Vorschlag für ein allgemeines Gamification-Modell abgeleitet.As part of the grow platform GmbH the ReMotion team intends to solve the special challenges of users and potential customers of modern fitness trainings with an innovative business idea where an efficient training is to be created which is adapted to the individual performance level of the users and offers a high potential for positive training experiences. For this purpose an in-house motion platform is developed and a bicycle ergometer is used as the first training device. In combination with gamification and technologies enabling the immersion into virtual reality it is set to technologically revolutionize the fitness sport of the future. With the aim of investigating the challenges posed by the lack of fun and motivation, identified through customer surveys, this paper deals with the topic of gamification in relation to the activity of a high-intensity interval training on a real, stationary bicycle prototype in virtual reality. Based on a user-centered design approach and an iterative process consisting of several steps, the concept of a VR fitness training experience is developed. It is implemented in cooperation with an interdisciplinary project team and subsequently evaluated by the author of this paper. The results of an extensive user study show that the developed prototype has a high potential for positive and joyful experiences as well as the motivation for an optimal performance. Seven possible influencing factors potentially connected to the positive result could be derived. In particular, the probable incentive of the flow experience is highlighted, for whose occurrence an interaction with the other six influencing factors seems to be essential. Additionally, by discussing the theoretical fundamentals regarding training science it is found that in a regular fitness training two of the four subject areas defined in training science are currently considered insufficiently or not at all. However, the findings of this study suggest that an integration of the lacking subject areas into the concept and design of a training could facilitate a positive training experience and performance-motivated action. Finally, a proposal for a general gamification model is derived from a theoretical and holistic view at the process to develop the gamification concept, the main subject matter of this thesis

    Segmentation of Marine SAR Images by Sublook Analysis and Application to Sea Traffic Monitoring

    This paper presents a segmentation algorithm for marine synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images. The proposed approach is based on the analysis of image sublooks along azimuth direction and exploits a novel indicator, called incoherent entropy, to divide the input targets into three classes, namely, ship, sea, and ambiguity. A global threshold detector is then implemented to discriminate between stable targets (ships), providing low incoherent entropy amplitude, and ambiguity or sea, implying very high and high values of the indicator, respectively. An integration of the segmentation algorithm into maritime surveillance systems is investigated, proposing its use as a discrimination tool to limit the false alarm rate of traditional prescreening algorithms. The main steps of a standard SAR-based ship detection system are thus implemented to provide a first screening of the candidate targets, which are, then, processed by sublook analysis using incoherent entropy to identify false detections. The proposed technique is tested on stripmap SAR images collected by the TerraSAR-X mission, over the Gulf of Naples, Italy. Algorithm detections are validated using ground-truth data, provided by automatic identification system. The results confirm the capability of the proposed discrimination approach to reject the vast majority of the false detections resulting from the prescreening algorithm

    Improving the job-retention strategies in multiple sclerosis workers: The role of occupational physicians

    Several studies evaluated whether a person with multiple sclerosis is employed or not and investigated the main symptoms that hinder the job performance. However, despite occupational physicians are fundamental in managing disabled subjects, there is a serious lack of data regarding their role in improving employability of these workers. In this regard, we assessed occupational physicians' professional activity and training/updating needs in order to identify and develop management tools, operative procedures and training programs helpful to support and implement adequate job-retention strategies. Four hundred three Italian occupational physicians compiled a self-administered questionnaire to evaluate individual demographics, health surveillance system, fitness for work and training needs. Our findings confirmed the suitability to adopt environmental adjustments at workplace (particularly referring to the ergonomics of workstation, the typology of occupational risk factors and the working time) to accommodate individual's needs in order to improve working ability among multiple sclerosis workers. Moreover, training events discussing operational guidelines and standardized instruments and/or methodologies to adequately manage the disable workers should be fostered. Therefore, in this regard, occupational physicians could play a key role but they need more high-quality training especially concerning the different tools that are currently available to assess the work issues in multiple sclerosis patients

    BACKGROUND: Adalimumab (Ada) treatment is an available option for pediatric Crohn's disease (CD) and the published experience as rescue therapy is limited. OBJECTIVES: We investigated Ada efficacy in a retrospective, pediatric CD cohort who had failed previous infliximab treatment, with a minimum follow-up of 6 months. METHODS: In this multicenter study, data on demographics, clinical activity, growth, laboratory values (CRP) and adverse events were collected from CD patients during follow-up. Clinical remission (CR) and response were defined with Pediatric CD Activity Index (PCDAI) score ≤10 and a decrease in PCDAI score of ≥12.5 from baseline, respectively. RESULTS: A total of 44 patients were consecutively recruited (mean age 14.8 years): 34 of 44 (77%) had active disease (mean PCDAI score 24.5) at the time of Ada administration, with a mean disease duration of 3.4 (range 0.3-11.2) years. At 6, 12, and 18 months, out of the total of the enrolled population, CR rates were 55%, 78%, and 52%, respectively, with a significant decrease in PCDAI scores (P2 years was negatively correlated with final PCDAI score (P<0.01). Two serious adverse events were recorded: 1 meningitis and 1 medulloblastoma. CONCLUSION: Our data confirm Ada efficacy in pediatric patients as second-line biological therapy after infliximab failure. Longer-term prospective data are warranted to define general effectiveness and safety in pediatric CD patients

    CoNL route choice model: numerical assessment on a real dataset of trajectories

    This paper proposes a numerical assessment of the performances of the CoNL route choice model [1] on a big-size network (Regione Campania). The CoNL is a particular specification of the CoRUM model [2]. Currently, its performances in terms of choice probabilities have been investigated only on some toy networks, by comparing route choice probabilities with reference to target Multinomial Probit choice probabilities. The paper provides also a discussion about different aspects of the CoNL for route choice: The possibility to take into account also non-efficient path, the computation time of the two versions of the algorithm for building the CoNL structure, and the possibility to adopt some different specifications for computing the structural parameters of the model. The comparison is based on a dataset of 195 trajectories on 145 different o-d pairs, tracked with the aid of an Android application. The trajectories have been collected through the smartphones of travellers moving within the network of Regione Campania (Italy). The results show the superiority of the CoNL route choice model in reproducing observed route choices when compared with other commonly used route choice formulations

Le ventisette sedi della Federico II, raccolte in questo volume e descritte dai colleghi appartenenti all’area di storia dell’architettura della nostra università, sono fortemente legate alla storia della città, dall’alto medioevo all’età moderna e contemporanea. Infatti, attraverso la loro descrizione, emergono eventi legati alla storia civile, politica e a quella dell’arte con l’evoluzione del gusto e delle diverse forme artistiche. L’obiettivo della pubblicazione è quello di far comprendere il ruolo significativo delle sedi della Federico II, nell’ambito della città metropolitana, e come queste pregevoli architetture, ricche di artisticità diffusa, grazie all’Università vengono conservate, rifunzionalizzate, valorizzate e offerte alla fruizione di un grande pubblico
