    No full text

Some Theorems for Real Increasing Functions in Elementary Fixed Point Theory

    No full text
We obtain some theorems for real increasing functions showing that elementary fixed point theory can bring to astonishing results by assuming only a few properties, some of which intrinsically possessed from these functions. An application is given for a theorem of quasi-compactness and a known result in posets is also recalled and applied to real intervals

On the Hilbert function of Gorenstein algebras of socle degree four

    No full text
The first example of a non unimodal Gorenstein hh-vector was given by Stanley, it is (1,13,12,13,1)(1,13,12,13,1). In cite{MZa} the authors showed that Stanley's example is optimal, {it i.e.}, the vector (1,12,11,12,1)(1,12,11,12,1) is not a Gorenstein hh-vector. Our main result is a generalization of this result. We also give a simple proof of Stanley's conjecture on the asymptotic behavior of the Hilbert function in socle degree four. We present a conjecture about the asymptotic behaviour of the Hilbert function for those algebras that are presented by quadrics

GC and GC-–MS Analysis of Volatile Compounds From Ballota nigra subsp. uncinata Collected in Aeolian Islands, Sicily (Southern Italy)

    No full text
In the present study, the chemical composition of the essential oils from aerial parts of Ballota nigra subsp. uncinata (Bég.) Patzak collected in Sicily was evaluated by gas chromatography (GC) and GC-mass spectrometry. The main components of the oil were (E)-phytol (20.0%), α-pinene (9.0%), hexahydrofarnesyl acetone (5.7%), and α-selinene (5.1%). Cluster analysis of the essential oil compositions of all the taxa belonging to B. nigra s.l. group was performed

    Get PDF

Antenatal intervention for congenital fetal lower urinary tract obstruction (LUTO): a systematic review and meta-analysis.

    No full text
To evaluate the effectiveness of antenatal intervention for the treatment of congenital lower urinary tract obstruction (LUTO) in improving perinatal survival and postnatal renal function. METHODS: Electronic databases were searched from their inception until May 2018. Selection criteria included randomized controlled trials and controlled nonrandomized observational studies including fetuses with ultrasound evidence of LUTO evaluating antenatal intervention for improving perinatal outcomes. Any type of intervention was analyzed. The primary outcome was perinatal survival. The secondary outcome was postnatal survival with normal renal function. The summary measures were reported as summary odds ratio (OR) with 95% of confidence interval (CI). RESULTS: Ten articles with a total of 355 fetuses were included in the meta-analysis. Inclusion criteria of the selected studies were singleton pregnancy with severe LUTO confirmed on detailed fetal ultrasound examination. Nine studies, analyzed the efficacy of vesico-amniotic shunt performed in the second trimester. The overall estimate survival was higher in the vesico-amniotic shunt group compared to the conservative group (OR 2.54, 95% CI 1.14-5.67). 64/112 fetuses (57.1%) survived in the vesico-amniotic shunt group compared to 52/134 (38.8%) in the control group. Five studies reported on postnatal renal function between 6 months and 2 years. Postnatal renal function was higher in the vesico-amniotic shunt group compared to the conservative group (OR 2.09, 95% CI 0.74-5.9). Fetal cystoscopy was performed in only two included studies. Overall, 45 fetuses underwent fetal cystoscopy. The perinatal survival was higher in the cystoscopy group compared to the conservative management group (OR 2.63, 95% CI 1.07-6.47). Normal renal function was noted in 13/34 fetuses in the cystoscopy group versus 12/61 in the conservative management group at 6 months follow-up (OR 1.75, 95% CI 1.05-2.92) Conclusions: Antenatal bladder drainage appears to improve perinatal survival in cases of LUTO. Further randomized trials with long-term follow-up are required to determine the role of antenatal treatment in clinical setting

Sanctions and public opinion: The case of the Russia-Ukraine gas disputes

    No full text
Economic sanctions usually fail, sometimes even provoking the opposite of the intended outcome. Why are sanctions so often ineffective? One prominent view is that sanctions generate popular support for the targeted government and its policies; an outcome referred to as the rally-around-the-flag effect. We quantify this effect in the context of a major trade dispute between Ukraine and the Russian Federation, which led to a cut in gas exports to Ukraine and a sharp increase of gas prices. Using individual data on political and economic preferences before and after the trade dispute and exploiting the cross section heterogeneity in the individual exposure to the price shock—measured by the connection to a centralized gas/heating system—we find that people more directly affected by the increase of gas prices were significantly more likely to change their opinions in support of Western-style political and economic systems preferred by the incumbent government, consistent with a rally-around-the-flag effect

“Non concilio”. Amalia Signorelli, antropologa dell’Italia contemporanea

    No full text
