Environmental compliance and the level of competitiveness of tilapia producers installed in hydroelectric power plants
Aquaculture is one of the fastest-growing food sectors in Brazil. Cage fish farming has been widely practiced in the country, mainly in hydroelectric reservoirs. However, different regulatory, technical, and economic challenges may need to be overcome before the sector can achieve increased national and international competitiveness. This study aimed to analyze and compare the competitiveness of tilapia cage farms located on different sides of the Canoas I hydroelectric reservoir, which forms the border between the states of São Paulo and Paraná, Brazil. Structured questionnaires were administered to all fish farmers in the reservoir. Questions about seven competitiveness indicators were rated on a 5-point Likert scale. The results revealed that the major barriers to competitiveness are the institutional environment and environmental sustainability. Paraná has an active environmental inspection service, but São Paulo does not. As a result, tilapia fish farmers in Paraná gave more importance to environmental compliance than those located in São Paulo
A hybrid model for planning programming and control of production for micro and small enterprises
Competition among small and medium-sized enterprises has grown over the years due to the advancement of technology and the globalization of the market and operations. Production Planning, Programming and Control (PPCP) acts as a link between management and manufacturing, in these small and medium-sized enterprises. The present study, through an action research in a microenterprise manufacturer of Brooms made of PET, aimed at the implementation of a hybrid PPCP system. The model was proposed by using the concepts of Lean Manufacturing, to map and know the process eliminating wasted time and resources, Theory of Constraints to identify constraints and bottlenecks and the MRP system to act within the context of pushed production. Therefore, it is possible to obtain a Framework that presents the method used in the implementation of the work, which provided with results such as production order, security stock, and correct input definition. The model put the company in other level of organization and efficiency in the use of resources
Analysis of business systems and automation; the application of the original web platform for start-up entrepreneurial endeavors
Ensuring a good position on the market is risked in start-up entrepreneurial endeavors, in which there is an evident funding problem and which have a small amount of the initial capital at their disposal. For that reason, with the help of knowledge and information technologies, entrepreneurial endeavors oriented towards the provision of consulting services for other companies and institutions, or for the personal needs of business decision-making, can ensure a good competitive position by conducting the automation of their services with the help of the original web platform presented in the paper. Thanks to the said automation and web platform, start-up entrepreneurial firms are provided with a strong tool within the framework of their field of work, at a low price, which enables them to be cost-competitive. As the young are increasingly involved in the field of information technologies irrespective of the job they do and as learning programming is increasingly more available within the framework of formal education, non-formal education, i.e. courses, as well as free of charge, via the content on the Internet through diverse tutorials and programs, start-up companies are enabled to utilize their employees’ skills in multiple ways with minimal investments in order to establish the platform, whereas when the professional segment within the field of management and economics, i.e. the managerial segment, are concerned, they may utilize the available knowledge funds and consultants
Ramadan effect on sectoral herding
One variable that affects stocks prices in the financial markets is herding behavior. As the level of herding is not constant over time, its level may be different during some events. Herding may increase during religious events like Ramadan in the Muslim world causing volatility to increase and leading to unexplained stock prices. The purpose of this study was to test the effect of Ramadan on herding presence at market and sector levels. The study was based on the behavioral finance theory which considers mood and behavior of investors as variables that may affect the prices of stocks. The enquiry that the researcher tried to answer was whether the presence of herding in the market and sectors is affected by Ramadan. To achieve the study purpose, a quantitative study was conducted using daily data from Amman stock exchange for the period from 2000 to 2018. Collected data were analyzed using ordinary least squares (OLS) method. The Results of market-level analysis showed that market investors do not herd during and out of Ramadan. At sector-level, however, herding is absent during Ramadan and exists out of it in services and industrial sectors while it's absent in both times in the financial sector.
Authentic marketing pragmatic marketing (components, foregrounds, outcomes): interactions & conflicts
The age of new technology is fraught with contradictions, engagement and communications that the customer with the crisis of meaning and absurdity that stems from obedience and consumption. And in the same vein, authenticity, which Katler considers to be the most effective element in this era, in order to achieve a sustainable development and response to the psychological adventures of the customer, which he calls the human soul. Also, the efforts of brands to maintain and develop their own beliefs and philosophies have made it necessary to study the concept of authentic marketing. And, on the other hand, the study of its interaction with the pragmatic marketing, which is a response to the material needs of the client, is necessary, therefore, their consequences can be the answer to the theoretical vacuum of marketing science to solve customer's contradictions in the new paradigmatic shift. The present research is applied in terms of purpose and uses the method of qualitative research in the form of the Structural Foundation data theory. Methods of collecting data is through in-depth interviews and observing. Eventually, data were analyzed using the principles related to underlying theory (open and selective coding, continuous comparative analysis, creation of concepts and compilations). Finally, this study suggests that changing marketing paradigm to solve the problems of new age for authentic brand production
Control of the variability of the biofuel packaging process through the six sigma methodology: a case study
The present work carried out the control of the variability in the biodiesel packaging through the application of the steps of the DMAIC (Define Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control) of the Six Sigma quality program. The DMAIC method brings together a set of statistical and quality tools for the study of process variability. Prior to the project, in the period evaluated between June and October of the year 2017 the average monthly variation of loss was 387.7 liters with a standard deviation of 421.9 liters. After the implementation of the improvements between January and March of the year 2018, the average monthly variation was -3.187 liters with a standard deviation of 60.95 liters. This evolution in the control and reduction of losses in the container of biodiesel was possible through the actions of improvements and involvement of the people of the billing and shipping. After all the improvements implemented, the maintenance and continuity of the controls met two important requirements of the Six Sigma quality program: customer focus and financial impact
Integrated mathematical model based on a heuristic method for loading and routing of vehicles: application in a tobacco company
The vehicle-routing problem (VRP) combined with freight-loading problem is a complex and relatively recent issue studied by the scientific literature. This paper presents the formulation of a mathematical model and a procedure to solve this problem in a Cuban tobacco company aiming to determine the quantity of merchandise to be loaded on vehicles and the best route to be taken. For this purpose, a decomposition’s heuristic method was used and it was integrated with multiobjective programming by-goals and mixed binary quadratic programming. This approach allowed simplifying the problem and offering a satisfactory solution based on the demand fulfillment, the vehicles’ rational use and for searching the local optimums of the traffic load indicator. The model was tested in a case study and its feasibility evaluated based on a real operational situation in a tobacco company. Although the results of the application of the developed model does not imply reaching the optimal solution to the problem studied, it represents an opportunity for company’s performance improvement and it could be adapted and applied to other institutions dedicated to the same activities
Regret and information at first price auctions: a study with brazilian decision-makers
Studies point out that the utility of the decision maker in the results depends on the profit. However, acting rationally in an auction environment can be difficult, and the reasons may be due to cognitive aspects such as regret. The "Winner's Regret" bias is characterized by the regret that the winner suffers for bidding too high compared to his opponent. The "Loser’s regret" comes from realizing that his very low bid made him lose. Therefore, the objective of this study was to investigate the effect of regret and information on first price auctions in Brazilian individuals and compare with studies conducted abroad, checking if there is a difference in bias amplitude. Initially, a literature review on behavioral operations, auctions and the effect of regret in auctions was performed. Regarding the methodology, the sample applied was non-probabilistic and for convenience. The experiment design had four treatments: Winner's Regret, Loser's Regret, Both and None, manipulated in a 4x1 experiment with college students. Regarding the winner's regret, the results were similar to studies abroad and in the hypothesis of the loser's regret the results were different
