The investigation of the mediating role of innovation and organizational intelligence on the relationship between knowledge management and financial performance of the organizations active in the e-banking industry
Knowledge management is essential for activities such as problem-solving, dynamic learning and decision making, and can improve organizational performance and in particular the financial performance of the organizations by enabling the organization to perform smarter. The main purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of knowledge management on the financial performance of the organizations considering the mediating role of innovation and organizational intelligence in the e-banking industry. The statistical population of the study consisted of senior executives of 31 public and private banks active in the e-banking industry of Iran (n=54). Library and field research (questionnaire) was used to collect research data. In this study, Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Spearman-Bartlett tests were used to analyze the data to determine the normality of the research data and to determine the adequacy of the sample size (using SPSS software). Then, structural equation modeling was used to analyze the conceptual model and to test the hypotheses (using Smart PLS software). The hypotheses test results showed that knowledge management has a positive and significant impact on the financial performance of the organizations active in the e-banking industry and the innovation and organizational intelligence influence the relationship between knowledge management and the financial performance of the organizations. Thus, the mediating role of these two variables (innovation and intelligence) was confirmed
The transformation of strategic airline alliances and airline joint ventures: where are they heading?
Airline companies has been incorporated various cooperation forms to handle risky situations arising from high competition level and to gain sustainable competitive advantages. The aim of this research is to reveal the transformation that strategic airline alliances and airline joint ventures have, with their current situation. In this research, which adopted the qualitative research design, semi-structured interviews were held with top executives of five traditional airline companies affiliated to strategic airline alliances and airline joint ventures. The most significant finding obtained as a result of the research is that airline companies affiliated with strategic airline alliances are beginning to question alliances’ structures though airlines accept that alliances are still valuable to them. Another remarkable finding is that airlines have begun to move out of classical form with newly launched form of joint venture
Thinking ethics differently (challenges and opportunities for engineers education)
Ethics has many definitions, each depending on its domain. In the ancient times, ethics was based on the principles of good action and the search for the common good. Generally, Ethics is understood as a system of moral principles which affect our ways of living. Ethics are related with what is good for society and individuals and is described as moral philosophy. Ethics only makes sense if we put them in the context of human action understood as responsible, creative and communicative. Applied Ethics and Codes of conducts have appeared in the contemporary period. One of the key issues in the engineering education ethics program is the problem of margins/limits of autonomy that will enable future engineers to act ethically in accordance with universal ethical principles and the existing codes of ethics. Computer ethics adds the intellectual property rights, and also the use of personal data. The paper shows a general review of ethics, its history, its evolution, with an emphasis on engineering education. It also mentions the big data issue in ethics
Influence of relational resources on the development of relational operating skills
The debate about relational resources and their influences has followed an internal focus on organizations, and in the literature this has been shown to have a high influence on the ways of the resource-based view. This article aims to analyze the development of operational competencies following the focus of the relational view from the interaction of relational resources shared in supply chains. The research was guided by the strategy of multiple case studies in the steel industry, automotive and industrial applications, pulp production, and engineering for the energy industry. The results of the analysis of the four cases show that deeper relationships in the form of partnerships enable a process of investing in specific assets, knowledge accumulation, learning exchange, and a combination of complementary strategic resources that develop relational operational competencies. And, these competencies that represent the company's ability to promote a skill set to use resources efficiently and to provide a barrier to imitation are further developed by the information and knowledge constructs
Operational competencies rooted in resource theory: operations strategy and supply chain performance
This study discusses the influence of internal and relational resources on the performance of purchasing companies in which strategic suppliers are involved in their business processes, through interaction with operational competencies. The discussion of competency development has followed an internal focus on the company influenced by the resource-based view. In turn, the relational view proposes strategies of interorganizational cooperation to develop competitive relationships through short- and long-term collaborative actions. This study fills an important gap in the field of resource theory in Latin America. The results show that relational vision categories, when integrated with operational competences, influence business performance
Simulation-based optimization of the polca ordering system
Given an increase in consumer demand for product quality, companies need to continually improve their means of production. The use of computational resources assists companies to choose an ordering system that best suits their reality. In this sense, the present study aims to analyze and compare the performance of the Paired-cell Overlapping Loops of Cards with Authorization (POLCA) system, according to pre-established parameters in a real automobile company case, which has a flow-shop production environment. In order to do this, the research has a hypothetical-deductive scientific explanation. Also, the quantitative approach, and the experimental research procedure were employed due to the use of simulation and optimization. The computer simulation was performed using ProModel®. The initial model was optimized, and the results of the two elaborated scenarios were compared. It was verified that the optimized scenario showed improvement in the average total output of the system. The simulation of the optimized model presented an increase in production of approximately 95.29% when compared to the initial scenario. Nevertheless, trade-offs were verified. It is noticeable in the scenario analyzed that to increase the production of axles, the use of intermediate stocks must be increased. Finally, the present research contributes to the academic community since it proposed the study of an ordering system that has a limited number of studies, mainly in Brazil. It also contributes to the business community by encouraging the use of simulation in companies so that a better performance analysis of ordering systems can be performed prior to actual deployment
Distribution channels (dc) in the technological industry - ideas for improvement in Argentina
For many years, the DC operation -covering massive sales and value added solutions- have been a reality in the Argentinean technological industry. Manufacturing companies have used them as a central part of their commercial growth/value added strategies to provide greater geographical coverage and adequacy to the products/services offered. As a result, this work shows different DC facets of this environment and possible improvement aspects. Management focus could bring better performance levels for the organizations that configure this complex and exciting industry. The hypothesis of this study –which was corroborated- is that there are aspects that can be improved in the DC operation of the Argentinean technological industry, bringing value added and sustainable growth to the companies’ network. Main findings of this work reveal that long DC and hybrid models are mostly used by manufacturers because they improve commercial reach, final customers’ solutions and purchase experience, providing the highest possible flexibility and profitability. It also requires cost optimization, channel efficiencies and vertical conflicts reduction. In addition, there are challenges connected to: a) the whole DC network value understanding and the optimal channel level mix, b) customer demand generation, c) the technology/cloud-based businesses and the SMB (Small Medium Business) that need more personalization and value added focus, d) remote channels/online platforms versus physical channels, e) the Opportunity Registration process as a way to protect the DC investment in certain key customers, and f) training opportunities, among others. The final objective referrers to get away from imitation and commoditization, proposing a unique value proposition for which strategy and marketing plans should create long term customer value. Finally, best practices are remarked as a way to evolve to new performance levels. The study is exploratory-descriptive, with a qualitative methodology, and it is supported with a bibliographical and an empirical analysis
Workplace incivility and turnover intention among nurses of public healthcare system in Pakistan
Though workplace incivility is a negative behavioral phenomenon that has infiltrated almost every sector, yet, less investigated in the healthcare sector. The healthcare sector is the backbone for economic and well-being for any nation and mainly composed of nurses. Turnover among nurses is a serious challenge to public healthcare facilities in terms of management, financing, and service quality. Based on the COR theory, this study capitalizes investigation on the effects of incivility on turnover intention through burnout and occupational stress. Simple random sampling was deployed on a sample of 265 nurses from 24 public hospitals of Sindh in Pakistan. Data analysis through partial least square and results revealed that workplace incivility has insignificant relation with turnover intention. Whereas, incivility has a significant indirect relationship with turnover intention through burnout and occupational stress. This study suggests that emotional and occupational depletion in public healthcare is high due to incivility at the workplace. Thus, HR managers must devise policies to practice civil behavior to curtail turnover intention problem among nurses. Besides practical benefits, some limitations with potential future research directions are discussed in the end
