Does teachers' self-efficacy influence their organizational commitment?
Self-efficacy has become the focus of attention in the field of teaching. Teachers with higher teaching efficacy portray more enthusiasm for teaching and have greater commitment to teaching. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether self-efficacy has an influence on teachers’ organizational commitment (OC). This study hypothesized that teachers’ self-efficacy would have no significant relationship on teachers’ organizational commitment. The study employed survey research design to establish the relationship between self-efficacy and teachers’ OC. Simple random sampling was employed to draw a study population of 480 teachers in secondary schools in Nairobi, Machakos, Kajiado, and Kiambu counties in Kenya. The method of data collection was through the use of questionnaires which were distributed randomly to respondents. The data was analyzed through descriptive, correlation and regression analysis. The study established that teachers’ self-efficacy had positive influence on their OC which indicates that teachers with high self-efficacy were more committed to their institutions. The study recommends that teachers’ employer should provide new teachers with guided mastery experiences and come up with ways of building their self-efficacy in order to improve their OC. The study suggests further research on the effect of teachers’ self-efficacy on students’ achievements
Cross-cultural adaptation and reliability evaluation of the Lithuanian version of the keys questionnaire
The aim of this study is the KEYS questionnaire cross-cultural adaptation into the Lithuanian language. This study was designed to translate and perform cultural adaptation as well as test the reliability of the Lithuanian version of the KEYS questionnaire. Guidelines for the questionnaire translation and adaptation procedure according to international recommendations based on scientific literature were followed in order to establish the cultural equivalence to the original English version of the KEYS questionnaire. In the cross-cultural adaptation stage, due to the Lithuanian cultural context, several discrepancies between the semantic and conceptual equivalence of the items were modified. In total, 155 respondents participated in the pilot study of the Lithuanian KEYS version. As to reliability of the Lithuanian KEYS version, psychometric properties were tested, Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was used to assess the internal consistency. Mostly all scales and items demonstrated good internal consistency. The Lithuanian KEYS version was a well-accepted, reliable tool for evaluating and assessing individual work environment perceptions that influence the creativity of organizations among the Lithuanian speaking population. We conclude that the Lithuanian version of the KEYS questionnaire was successfully translated and adapted for application to Lithuanian-speaking respondents and it is ready for the validation study. Such a research is the first in the Baltic region
Investigating how consumer education and lifestyle influence the consumer empowerment: case in rural and urban areas, Indonesia
This study aimed to analyze the difference of consumer education, lifestyle, and consumer empowerment in rural and urban areas, and to analyze the effect of consumer education and lifestyle on the consumer empowerment. This research used a cross-sectional design study with 120 housewives as the sample selected purposively. Data were analyzed using independent sample t-test, Mann-Whitney, and multiple linear regressions. There were significant differences (p<0.01) in consumer education, fulfilled lifestyle, believer lifestyle, and consumer empowerment index between the two regions, where the urban area scores were higher compared to the rural area. Consumer education and length of education affected positively and significantly (p<0.01) on the consumer empowerment index, while the lifestyle did not significantly affect the consumer empowerment index. The higher intensity of consumer education and higher education levels will increase the consumer empowerment index
Corporate governance perspective on enterprise risk management and organizational sustainability
The study was designed to explore the relationship between enterprise risk management and organizational sustainability. Enterprises can only meet the generational intention of founders when they are properly managed exemplified by sustainable performance. Business failures in recent history refocused attention towards good enterprise risk management to promote organizational sustainability. Sustainability implies meeting the needs of the present generation without compromising the needs of the future generations, and this cannot happen in an environment drenched in weak enterprise risk management. Corporate governance perspective suggests that the BODs of a company has the ultimate responsibility to establish effective risk management framework for the healthy performance and sustainability of the enterprise. Therefore, a major concern of the BODs is to diversify away risks and to create a stable average to enhance organizational performance. Management decision making as an integral part of modern management aims at both enterprise risk minimization and the optimal achievement of organizational goals and sustainability. The exploratory research design was used for the study. Data generated and analyzed through statistical techniques, showed strong positive relationship between enterprise risk management and organizational sustainability. Because of limitations in terms of current literature, the study was not exhaustive; therefore, further study should examine the relationship between weak risk management and enterprise failure. It was recommended that complex organizations must establish good corporate governance structure to promote enterprise risk management and organizational sustainability
Internationalization and english language in a public institution
Internationalization is defined as an integration process of international, intercultural or global dimensions with educational purpose and offers. There are many dimensions of educational institutions internationalization from research partnership to international mobility. Among the several requirements for students to participate in exchanging programs promoted by international universities and organizations is English language proficiency. On the other hand the proficiency level requirements can vary according to the mobility programs which set the minimum English level. One example is the SAKURA Science High School Program promoted by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) which selected science and technology students to participate in an exchanging program in Japan. In order to be selected, applicants needed to have B1 (CEFRR) as minimum English proficiency level. Thus this study aims to investigate if Brazilian students of an educational institution have such required level to successfully take part in mobility programs. The qualitative methodology of this research includes documents analysis - internationalization documents and English course program - and questionnaires to students and English teacher. The results show that students are expected to achieve B1 level by the end of high school according to the English subject program. However students believe that they do not have such level in speaking skill which would be one of the main skill in JST program. Most of them classify their level in A2. Furthermore the English teacher claims that although some students have already achieved B1 or even higher level the majority is at A2.Thus in order to allow more students to participate in mobility programs the institution should invest in extra-curricular English courses to increase study hours and focus more on developing speaking skills
Production batch sizing and inventory level control using simulation software
Computer simulation has great application potential in the area of Production Engineering as a tool to support decision making as it allows to simulate the functioning of a real system through logical relationships, in order to observe its behavior under different scenarios. Which could not be practiced in the real system. In line with this aspect, the present work aims to present a report on the application of simulation for the design of production batches and inventory control, highlighting the process necessary for the construction of the generated simulation model, as well as the challenges and opportunities observed. In order to achieve the proposed objective, a literature review was carried out on the topics of interest; the choice and understanding of simulation software and; the survey of data from a large auto parts manufacturer located in the interior of the state of São Paulo. The main results were an increase in production volume from the inclusion and dimensioning of a buffer after the assembly process and a balance between the number of items of each component of the product structure in the supply with the real capacity of manufacturing cell processing. It is important mentioning that the simulation model in this article can be applied as a support system decision for the preparation of strategic planning and operational planning, with the purpose of improving the analysis capacity for decision-making
Discrete event simulation applied to single queue management: a case study at a bank agency
Capacity and queue management are currently used in financial institutions. With decreasing bank units due to internet services, research in this field has focused on improving to utilize their employees efficiently and achieve service excellence. In developing countries like Brazil, the customer has become more bank-accounted due to government and labor requirements, such as the wage credit became mandatory in the wage account. The paper's aim is motivated by a real-life case study to simulate discrete events to improve queue management at a Brazilian bank branch with the Arena software simulation environment. The simulation model was designed, tested, and applied considering the Discrete Event Simulation (DES) replication for queuing strategies on a real-world banking scenario. The arrival and service times were collected from 115 customers in Ferraz de Vasconcelos/SP city. It was performed in version 15.10 (2018) of the Arena software, with processor Intel core i3 CPU dual-core 3.07 GHz and 8GB of RAM. The results indicate that the bank agency should consider providing 9 to 11 operators to attend customers considering the arrival and service rate
Work interference with family and turnover intentions in Pakistani banks: the role of psychological breach
The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between work-family interference (WIF), organizational and occupational turnover intentions. Further, it was investigated if the relationships are mediated by ‘psychological contract breach’ (PCB) concerning ‘work-family balance obligations’. A study was completed by gathering data using a self-administered survey from employees working in the Pakistani Banking industry (n=359). The results indicate that WIF is positively linked to organizational and occupational turnover intentions. Results of mediation analyses showed a significant indirect effect of WIF, via PCB, on occupational turnover intentions but not on organizational turnover intentions. This study provides insight into the mechanisms through which WIF affects employee turnover intentions. Moreover, this study adds to psychological contract theory by revealing insight into the particular sub of work-family content of work-family balance obligations
A single server Markovian queuing system with limited buffer and reverse balking
The phenomena are balking can be said to have been observed when a customer who has arrived into queuing system decides not to join it. Reverse balking is a particular type of balking wherein the probability that a customer will balk goes down as the system size goes up and vice versa. Such behavior can be observed in investment firms (insurance company, Mutual Fund Company, banks etc.). As the number of customers in the firm goes up, it creates trust among potential investors. Fewer customers would like to balk as the number of customers goes up. In this paper, we develop an M/M/1/k queuing system with reverse balking. The steady-state probabilities of the model are obtained and closed forms of expression of a number of performance measures are derived
