    Get PDF
This study aims to analyze the economic feasibility of hiring new technicians in order to meet the existing demand for technical assistance. For this, a sensitivity analysis was performed and the data was collected in a qualitative and quantitative way. After that interviews were carried out and quality tools were applied, such as: brainstorms, cause and effect diagram and also financial and cost data was collected during the process. Thus, it was possible to identify that the main causes of the problem is the unavailability of technicians. Thus, an initial solution was developed to create financial configurations to assess which decision would be most plausible. Finally, the best performance scenario was to hire only one new technician, as it maximizes the company's net profit and the representative percentage of that profit from the generated revenue; it was also considered to what extent the solution could be applied. This research is important not only for the studied company, but also for others that have similar problems and need instructions to create a direction for a solution

    Get PDF
This paper presents a simulation of an ambulatory processes using timed Petri net (TPN). The simulation considers the flow of patients in the biggest Brazilian cardiology hospital. The TPN is used as a decision support system (DSS) to improve the processes, to reduce the waiting time of the patients in the ambulatory and in this way to assure a high-quality service to the patients. Simulations were carried out using the software Visual Object Net++. This is a free software and therefore the presented solution is a low-cost solution. Providing a low-cost solution has a huge importance in this work since the hospital is kept from the government efforts and operates with limited financial resources. The patients’ flow in the hospital can be faced as a service and the modelling and optimization of these services bring more efficiency to the system as well as improve the human factors involved. The results proved that some changes could be made in the processes to improve the performance of the system

In the course of the research were collected and processed empirical data of 78 medium and large enterprises of 7 leading sectors of Ukraine's economy and data from some of the world's largest energy, mining, agricultural, transport, pharmaceutical, food, and construction companies. The conducted research confirms that the lack of mandatory indicators regarding disclosing environmental information and sanctions for non-provision and improper disclosure of data does not ensure transparency and comparability of reports. In order to monitor the environmental situation in Ukraine, it is recommended to disclose environmental information to all enterprises, regardless of their size; creation at the level of the regulator of a model report with the inclusion of a list of mandatory indicators of public importance and additional industry indicators; strengthening responsibility for improper information and incomplete disclosure and concealment of significant financial and non-financial environmental information; introduction of the statutory audit of management reports

Air transport accounts for a significant portion of all wealth production in the world. In the case of Brazil, although the air transport industry is undergoing profound changes because of the economic crisis, there is enormous potential for this market to resume growth, especially when compared to the number of passengers/inhabitant of already consolidated markets, such as the United States. However, to grow in this market, airlines need to be prepared to adapt to new dynamics and overcome the effects of the economy on the industry. It has been applied lean service-focused concepts to raise possible causes, identifying and optimized internal sales department flows to create a more appropriate customer value proposition, and correcting for each type of waste mapped. The objective of this case study was to apply the concepts related to the Value Stream Map tool to reduce activities that do not add value, in a service area, of a large airline. The objective was to improve the company's Business Process Management, aiming at a lean, effective and efficient process, improving the organization's performance and competitiveness

Most experts identified problems in the implementation of the agile methodology and as points of attention: management of distributed teams, scope estimation and communication. It was possible to identify the existence of a positive financial result by adopting the agile method for software development projects, as well as actions that contribute to the success of these projects, such as controlling quality using different testing techniques, project management, time, stakeholders, scope, and have agile communication, with feedback and good leadership. On the other hand, it was observed in the statistics that, although efficient, this method is still not being widely used. It indicates that there is uniformity between the scores for each item of the factor Task. It was found that 65 % of participants confirm the role of the leadership focused on the Task. Financial literacy among high school teenagers in a developing country context - an empirical study with reference to high school students in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

    Get PDF
Both developed and developing countries and economies have become increasingly concerned about the level of financial literacy of their citizens. Previous studies indicate that unlike the case in the industrialized world, the issue of financial literacy is a contemporary issue in the developing world, and it is an understudied field in this context. This study was initiated to survey the level of basic financial literacy among high school students in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s capital. Such a study corresponds to global initiatives such as by OECD requesting scholars to show case the level of financial literacy among young people in different countries/contexts. The data collection instrument was a standard questionnaire that measures the level of basic financial literacy of high school teenagers in Ethiopia. The questionnaire is based on the instrument originally developed by Lusardi and  Mitchell, (2005); and this study uses the slightly updated version used by Van Rooij, Lusardi and Alessie, (2011) that measures basic financial literacy from angles of numeracy, interest compounding, inflation, time value of money, and money illusion. The study concludes that the level of financial literacy is not fairly good among the high school students. The high school students in the capital are not well versed with the basic financial literacy dimensions/measurements, mainly with the assessments of interest compounding, inflation, time value of money, and money illusion. The worst assessment results are a 90.8% failure in the money illusion question, a 70.9% failure in interest compounding assessment question, and a 62.7% failure in the time value of money assessment question. These are followed by a 58.4% failure in the inflation assessment question and a 31.3% failure in the easiest assessment question of numeracy. By and large, these findings testify that the high school students in Addis Ababa have serious deficiency in basic financial literacy. Policy makers and educators may need to seriously pay attention to this shocking deficiency in the level of basic financial literacy among the high school students and take measures to educate the youth this basic life skill at young age while they are still at school.JEL Classification Code: D1
