Sustaining Islamic Educational Traditions: A Structural-Functional Analysis of Arab Pegon Translation in Pesantren Fathul Ulum
The kitab kuning (classical Islamic texts) has long been regarded as an authoritative reference in the pesantren (Islamic boarding school) tradition. These books, written by classical Islamic scholars, have been studied across generations and are viewed as time-tested sources of Islamic knowledge grounded in the Qur’an and Hadith. One distinctive method used in pesantren to comprehend the kitab kuning is the maknani method—a translation approach utilizing Arab Pegon, a modified Arabic script adapted to the Javanese language. The use of Arab Pegon serves not only as a learning aid but also holds historical significance in the spread of Islam in the Indonesian archipelago. Pesantren Fathul Ulum in Kwagean, Kediri, is one of the Islamic boarding schools that continues to preserve this Pegon translation tradition in the study of kitab kuning. This qualitative research aims to examine the tradition of translating kitab kuning into Arab Pegon at Pesantren Fathul Ulum through the lens of Talcott Parsons’ structural-functional theory, particularly the AGIL framework (Adaptation, Goal Attainment, Integration, and Latency). The findings reveal that Pegon translation functions both as a pedagogical tool and a socio-cultural mechanism that sustains the pesantren system. The pesantren’s ability to adapt its teaching methods to the diverse backgrounds of its students reflects the function of adaptation. The design of a learning system that preserves classical Islamic knowledge demonstrates the function of goal attainment. The function of integration is evident in the social structure and collective use of linguistic codes, thereby strengthening community cohesion within the pesantren. Meanwhile, the function of pattern maintenance is realized through the preservation of values, norms, and educational traditions across generations. Thus, the practice of Arab Pegon translation plays a vital role in maintaining the existence of pesantren as a traditional Islamic educational institution amid the dynamics of social change
Preserving Identity through Education: The Role of Symbolic Capital in Cultural Reproduction at MMA Bahrul ‘Ulum
This study examines the process of cultural reproduction at Madrasah Mu’allimin Mu’allimat (MMA) Bahrul ‘Ulum through the sociological lens of Pierre Bourdieu. The research focuses on how this traditional Islamic educational institution sustains religious and cultural values by shaping the habitus of its students. Using a qualitative approach and analyzing daily practices within the pesantren environment, the study finds that MMA Bahrul ‘Ulum reproduces culture through internal mechanisms such as discipline reinforcement, classical Islamic text learning, and symbolic relationships between teachers and students. Symbolic and cultural capital play a crucial role in maintaining the institution’s authority amid social change. The findings reveal that the process of cultural reproduction at MMA Bahrul ‘Ulum is not passive but rather active and dynamic, enabling the institution to preserve tradition while adapting to contemporary challenges. This research highlights the strategic role of pesantren in maintaining cultural identity through the formation of a distinctive habitus
A Qualitative Study On The Implementation Of Ta'līm Al-Muta'allim Values In Character Formation At Man 4 Jombang
This research was conducted at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 4 Denanyar Jombang with the aim of examining the implementation of learning the Book of Ta'lim Muta'alim in shaping student character. This research uses a qualitative approach with the type of field research. The research results show that learning implementation is carried out through three stages: planning, implementation, and evaluation. Learning is carried out using classical methods involving bandongan and sorogan techniques, where students not only receive the material but also actively play a role in explaining and discussing the material. Evaluation is carried out to measure students' understanding and their character development. Apart from that, this research also identifies factors that support and hinder the formation of student character through learning the book. Supporting factors include adequate infrastructure, teacher competency, and book matriculation programs, while inhibiting factors include differences in student backgrounds, limited use of technology, and limited learning time. The positive impacts felt by students include increased respect for teachers, discipline, and mutual respect between friends, which reflects the implementation of character values in everyday lif

This study examines the implementation of inclusive Islamic Religious Education (PAI)at SMPIT Al Uswah Bangil, focusing on strategies that integrate students with specialneeds into regular classrooms. The research highlights the school’s adaptive approach,combining modified lesson plans, flexible teaching methods (lectures, Q&A,demonstrations, and technology), and strategic classroom management to ensureequitable learning. Key findings reveal that personalized instruction, peercollaboration, and supportive teacher-student relationships enhance participation andcomprehension for all learners. While assessments follow the standard curriculum,accommodations are made to address diverse abilities. The study also underscores theeffectiveness of faith-based interventions, such as Quranic therapy and reward-penaltysystems, in supporting students with special needs. The Priority Of Knowledgable People In Az-Zumar Verse 9 Perspectives Of Contemporary Interpretation
This article discusses the virtues of knowledgeable people in Az-Zumar verse 9 which are discussed through the perspective of contemporary interpretation. This study aims to explore the meaning of ideal Islamic education, which not only increases the intellectual capacity of individuals but also forms good character and noble morals. Education in Islam is interpreted as a balanced process between the world and the hereafter, where knowledge becomes a light that illuminates the path to truth. This study uses a literature study approach by referring to primary sources from contemporary interpretation books, namely the interpretation of Al-Misbah, Al-Azhar, Asy-Syaamil fi Balaghatil Qur'an, and At-Tahrir wa At-Tanwir. The results of the study show that knowledgeable people have a higher degree in the sight of Allah. Education is able to form a young generation who are not only knowledgeable but also base their knowledge on their faith in Allah. The virtues of knowledgeable people include; being given guidance by Allah, given salvation from mistakes and humiliation, being able to distinguish between truth and falsehood, being independent in matters of religion and the world, and being obedient to science and Islamic law. This article also provides practical recommendations for parents and educators to instill the values of knowledge and faith in their children's education so that they can grow into a pious generation, have noble character, and be ready to carry out their role as caliphs on earth. Thus, the primacy of knowledgeable people in the perspective of Az-Zumar verse 9 is an important basis for building a better civilization
Analisis Mekanisme Bisnis E-Commerce melalui Transaksi Paylater dalam Perspektif Ekonomi Syariah: Studi Kasus Shopee Paylater
E-commerce business is trending and gaining high popularity because it offers a lot of convenience in transactions. One of them is Shopee which is currently a very popular online shopping platform. The Shopee platform offers a variety of products and easy payment methods, including Shopee Paylater. Apart from the ease of using Shopee PayLater, Shopee users also need to be more aware of the risks of using Shopee PayLater. This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Using two data sources, namely primary data obtained from interviews with Shopee users and Shopee Paylater customer service and secondary data from magazines, books, articles and websites about Shopee Paylater. The author uses inductive thinking in data analysis, starting from data and information on online business transactions via Shopee PayLater. The results of this research show that the Shopee PayLater loan application has terms and conditions that apply, including: Filling in the required personal data such as KTP and Emergency Contact completely and accurately. Shopee PayLater users are included in the qardh contract. However, in practice there are provisions that are not appropriate from a sharia economic perspective in accordance with the National Shariah Council of the Indonesian Ulema Council fatwa No: 116/DSN-MUI/IX/201
The Practice of Fasting and Dhikr in Developing Emotional Spiritual Quotient (ESQ)
This study aims to explore the role of tirakat (spiritual fasting) and wirid (recitation of dhikr) as practices to develop Emotional Spiritual Quotient (ESQ). ESQ combines emotional and spiritual intelligence, aligning with Islamic principles to foster strong moral character and deeper spiritual connections. The research employs a qualitative approach to understand the phenomenon of tirakat and wirid as tools to enhance ESQ. Data collection was conducted through observations, interviews, and documentation, with data analysis using Miles and Huberman's model, consisting of data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. Triangulation techniques ensured validity and reliability, including source, method, and time triangulation. The results show that tirakat and wirid significantly contribute to developing emotional and spiritual intelligence. From an emotional perspective, these practices improve self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, and empathy. Participants demonstrated better emotional control, increased patience, and a more thoughtful response to challenges. From a spiritual perspective, tirakat and wirid cultivate sincerity (ikhlas), patience (sabar), and a stronger connection with God. Participants reported greater focus in worship, improved discipline, and a deeper sense of purpose in life. This study highlights the importance of tirakat and wirid as systematic practices for developing ESQ. By integrating these practices, individuals can cultivate emotional maturity, moral character, and spiritual intelligence, which are essential for facing life’s challenges with resilience and ethical awareness
Implementation of Rice ATM Management for Zakat Distribution to Mustahiq in BAZNAS Jombang Indonesia
Rice ATMs are a means of facilitating the distribution of zakat without directly involving the brains of mustahiq and muzzaki. The urgency of rice ATMs is to help the poor get their basic needs in the form of rice, without good management this goal will not be achieved. This research aims to determine the implementation of Rice ATM management at BAZNAS Jombang, the problems faced in the Rice ATM program and their implications. This research uses a qualitative approach where data is obtained through observation, interviews and documentation, while data checking is carried out through data triangulation. The research results show that, firstly, the implementation of Rice ATM management at BAZNAS Jombang is good according to George R. Terry's theory. Second, the problems faced are divided into 5 parts, including problems related to rice ATM machines, fundraising strategies, UPZ limitations, Jombang BAZNAS administrators, and mustahiq. Third, the implications of the presence of a rice ATM in the courtyard of the Great Jombang Mosque have a significant impact on mustahiq and muzzaki. These implications include increased accessibility for mustahiq in fulfilling their basic needs, heightened awareness among muzzaki regarding their social responsibilities, and an overall enhancement in the perception of zakat distribution as a transparent and efficient system
