Soziokulturelles Empowerment. Strategien einer gemeindeorientierten Gesundheitsförderung

    No full text
The opportunities for equal participation in quality of life and health are not solely socially unequally distributed in Germany, but also spatially. The gradient of this inequality runs between city and country, center and periphery, east and west along the measure of regional deprivation. This territorial health inequality, which is not determined by regional cultures but by structural deprivation, poses a particular challenge for community health promotion strategies in rural peripheral communities. This applies in particular for the eastern German county Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, which has been minted by high migration rates, age, gender and educational segregation and com- paratively lower health opportunities for its inhabitants in recent decades. In the present study, the living conditions and health opportunities of older residents in village communities in northeastern Germany were therefore investigated on two levels. On the one hand, biographical narrative interviews were used to trace the experienced and lived developments of the village environment over the course of life. On the other hand, the history of the village was elaborated as ollective remembrance work in history workshops with a community-based partici- patory strategy. The basis for the area sampling was a resource-oriented micro spatial typification (MispT) of all municipalities with less than 500 inhabitants. This created a basis for abandoning the often prevailing deficit orientation in community health promotion in rural areas in favour of a resource orientation. Pierre Bourdieu's theory of habitus and Aaron Antonovsky's salutogenetic model of health served as a theoretical foundation. As a result, a participatory strategy for activating approaches to health promotion was developed, which takes into account the socio-cultural resources in the community. With the objectification of this socio-cultural empowerment in the concept of the community workshop LETHE, communal and individual economic, social and cultural resources can be reconnected as an expression of the local sense of community and consolidated as a learning process

Family therapy is a relevant mental health approach in countries of the global South. For a fair global knowledge transfer in the context of training, implicit values of Western concepts have to be made transparent and emergent irritations have to be taken up as indications for cultural adaptation needs. For systemic family therapy work in Cambodia, aspects of cultural and contextual fit were explored in order to support the local development of appropriate training in the Southeast Asian country. For this purpose, key concepts of systemic family therapy with a multidimensional, ecosystemic approach were explored in a culturally comparative manner. Further, essential competencies of a Cambodian family therapy were specified in order to enable structural coupling to the values of sociocentric family organization as well as culturally shaped ideas of help, advice and healing. Finally, the empirical results are used to derive content-related and didactic recommendations for training in family therapy and systemic practice in Cambodia as well as fundamental implications for transcultural family therapy work

Civil society organisations engaged with illegalised migrants in Bern and Vienna: co-production of urban citizenship

    Get PDF
In our paper we investigate the role of civil society organisations (CSOs) in the provision of services and in forming advocacy coalitions for illegalized migrants in Bern and Vienna. We analyse the variety of CSOs which actively challenge policies of exclusion at the urban level. We examine the political and social practices of CSOs in local welfare arrangements and their organizational structures, the way they build up solidarity relations, networks and alliances, and their relations to municipality and urban authorities. By focusing on varieties of practices and strategies of CSOs, we shed light on civil society’s crucial role concerning the construction of urban infrastructure of solidarity and aim to show how local arrangements for illegalized migrants are co-produced and negotiated by a variety of actors within urban settings

The participatory research project "Age4Health – Health Promoting Neighborhoods " was a sub-project of the research network PartKommPlus funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). In two research funding phases (02/2015–01/2018; 02/2018–01/2021) the project, together with professional and civil society actors as well as civically engaged and (older) citizens, investigated and promoted integrated municipal strategies for health promotion and health-related quality of life for disadvantaged older people, and the successful participation of older people in selected quarters in the urban district (case study Kassel-Bettenhausen) as well as in the rural area (case study Witzenhausen) and thus the development of inclusive and health-promoting neighborhoods. In the process and impact description, project developments and processes of the case study carried out in the city of Kassel in the district of Bettenhausen are described on the basis of selected central project modules (round table "Healthy Ageing in Bettenhausen", "Café Agathe", district walks, pilot project "Home Visit – Counselling and Information on Ageing in Kassel-Bettenhausen") and the (impact) effects of these participatory research and action processes are reflected
