    No full text
This paper tries to analize Abaraham Joshua Heschel’s contribution to the Contempprary Jewish Philosophy. In his philosophical works, Heschel tries to formulate the philosophical foundations on the scope and nature of human existence. At this point, the Jewish identities are not only recognized but also integrated as a basic principle: child of agreement. It is about the special relation between the Jewish People and Yahwe in the mode of relation between the Thou (heteronomy, transcendence) and the I (autonomy, immanency). So, as Jewish philosophy, Heschel thought is an effort to make explicit the nature of all Jewish human beings: the agreement with Yahweh. Here, Heschel philosophy has characteristics which belong to All Jewish philosophy in general: defending theological motives to solve the philosophical problems. At this context, Heschel gives the scope and deepness of the Jewish theology and philosophy. Heschel philosophy is full of insights that make the Jewish doctrines very real. Heschel thought can make the modern people aware about the highest problems. Here Heschel has tried to make the bridge between the Jewish philosophy and the modern world view

Menerobos Wacana-Wacana Teologis Kristiani tentang Misteri Allah Tritunggal dalam Rangka Mengonstruksi Moderasi dalam Berteologi

    No full text
This paper will briefly explore the main discourses about the triune God in the development of Christian theology to propose some theological moderation about the Divine mystery which Augustine called as the beauty ever ancient but ever new and increasingly alluring. Some of the moderation approaches offered by the author in this article are first, the talk about the Triune God, though imperfect, is finally done so that those who believe in it do not remain silent about mysteries that are very close but also far transcending in their faith and life experiences. Second, ethical kriteria are needed as principles that could guide theological effort so that theologies will be able to produce positive impacts on the real life of all creation. Third, the need to be aware of the limitations of symbols, expressions, metaphors, definitions and discourses about God for God transcends human understanding (apophatic theology). Fourth, because God is a mystery beyond the reach of human understanding, therefore, it needs to be realized that no theology is absolute and monopolizing all discourses rather it is necessary to talk about God in various ways and symbols in order to complement one another. Fifth, apophatic awareness that God is incomprehensible leads to the humility of mystical theology. The study in this paper will begin by briefly describing the development of the theology of the Trinity from the Early Church to the Enlightenment, followed by critical notes and proposals developed by contemporary theologians on the discourse about the Triune God and end up with a concluding note in the form of a way of moderation in doing theology

    No full text
Biotechnology is the biological child of science and technology. As an important part of the application of technology in the area of biology, a wide area of biotechnology extends from various living systems to organisms. As an applied field of science and technology, it emerges as a discipline that seeks to develop or produce various outcomes or applications by utilizing various biological systems, living organisms and their derivatives, creating and / or modifying things for specific purposes. The latter mentioned refers to the efforts of scientists and technology developers to create a better and more prosperous human life. Since its rapid and aggressive development in the 1970s, biotechnology has been positioned as a discipline capable of overcoming various human problems, whether it is food limitations, fighting various diseases, manipulating population growth, or creating applications to detect crime. Biotechnology brings many benefits to human life, but skepticism and ethical criticism are still needed. Instead of naively rejecting the progress of science and technology, one way to submit criticism that can be accepted by scientists is to examine the progress of biotechnology itself before showing its weaknesses. This is done by a group of ethicists in science and technology who are members of the Nuffield Council on Bioethics (NCB). They found - among other things - that the development of biotechnology turned out to leave problems that were difficult to solve even by the scientists themselves. Three main problems are shown in this paper, namely the problem of uncertainty, ambiguity, and the potential for transformation. The disclosure of these three problems does make us aware of not accepting biotechnology naively. But more than that, we are made aware of having certain ethical attitudes towards the development of biotechnology. The framing offered in this paper can be seen as a contribution to ethical and bioethical studies in dealing with the three problems that biotechnology poses

Snouck Hurgronje, the advisor of Government of Netherland in Indonesia observed that Islam could be seen from two aspects: ritual and politic. “Give the full freedom to the Indonesian Muslims to conduct their religious doctrines related to the spiritual aspects, and do not give them the full freedom related the political aspects,” his suggestions at the time to the General Governor of Netherland to Indonesia. His view hence inspired the future leaders of Indonesia, Soekarno and Soeharto, particularly in the New Order under the President Soeharto. In the beginnings of his power he freed from the prisons the Masyumi figures, but did not permit to this Muslim organizations to rebirth; he forced all Islamic political parties to merger under one party, the PPP; he forced all political parties and mass organizations to use Pancasila as sole basic; he build hundreds of mosques every month; he supported the formation of ICMI (Association for Indonesian Muslim Intellectuals); he hesitated to capture and sent the prisons who criticized vocally all his policies, and this sad condition goes to continue till more than 30 years of his power. The time of big mutiny come to real condition following the all university students entire the archipelago came down to the streets and demanded Soeharto to resign, or they forced him to come down, and finally the fall of his power happened in 1998 with the sad ending, and it is the logical consequence of his politicization of Islam

This writing uses qualitative method by an approach of content-analysis towards the books. The definition of toleration, harmony and discrimination used in those books just emphasizes the relations of inter-religions and inter-cultures. The Qur’ānic verses becoming theological basis are quoted and interpreted textually. Meanwhile, stories of conduct and model are focused on classical era, in which there is no story, conduct, model or example from cases taken from Indonesian contexts
