Perbandingan atau Pertandingan Agama-agama Ibrāhīmī?
This paper attempts to appreciate the work of an ex-priest who now is a Muslim author, Jerald F. Dirks, entitled Abrahamic Faiths. In the context of comparative religion studies, the writer (Kautsar Azhari)asks: is this Dirks’ work a comparison or competition of religions? Kautsar concludes that the work tends to be a competition in between the Abrahamic religions. However, the match was a friendly match. Peta dan Persoalan Keselarasan Matematis al-Qur’ān
This essay highlights numerous serious efforts made in the last decades to find out mathematical miracles of the Qur’ān. While it recognizes that some of the findings resulted from these efforts might be problematic in terms of accuracy, methodological consistency and even legitimacy, this essay emphasizes the potential of these inquiries to enrich the academic discourse on miraculous aspects of the Qur’ān (i‘jāz al-Qur’ān) -an already longstanding subject in the ‘ulūm al-Qur’ān. Mapping the approaches to put the Qur’ānic mathematical miracles into some broad categories, and giving a glimpse into its history and underlying assumptions, the essay examines some theological, epistemological and methodological issues in each category, pointing out some reasons to either appreciate or criticize these approaches.DOI: 10.15408/ref.v13i2.89

Referensi Pemikiran Politik Nahdlatul Ulama (NU)
The growth of Islamic organization in Indonesian is difficult to release from politics. Although historically it was born as a cultural response, but in the presence, the development of organization is difficult to avoid “politics temptation”. This can be seen on Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) as one of the largest Islamic organizations in Indonesia. NU was not born from the political will, but rather as a response to socio-cultural development of society at that time. However, even though NU’s involvement in politics is not designed from birth, in fact NU able to play the phenomenal political role. This shows that NU inherently has a reference (thought) as the basis of the political practices. This paper will examine the political ideas of reference used by NU. One of them is thought of Imam Al-Mawardī especially in his monumental work, Al-Aḥkām Al-Sulthāniyyah which is a common reference of Sunni politics
Memaknai Alam Semesta: Simbolisasi Kosmik dalam Ontologi Mistik Sahl ibn ‘Abd Allāh al-Tustarī
This piece explicates mystical interpretation conducted by the Sufi Sahl ibn Abd Allah al-Tustari on certain Qur’anic verses illustrating cosmic symbols of the Sufi ontology. In this symbolic interpretation the understanding of natural phenomena given in the form of analogy that is more psychologically oriented, for example, earth that is signified as “heart” which is low in nature because of its engagement with the matter referred to be a symbol of “darkness”. On contrary, the sky is interpreted as an element of height that belongs to the role of “enlightening”. The symbolism of the universe that is signified with its psychic understanding is the main ideas Sahl Tustari’s mystical ontology that centers around the mystical concept of the light of Muhammad, which has vast influence within the development of Islamic mystical thought in later period. The main inquiry of the present paper is what kinds of metaphysical concepts described by Sahl al-Tustari in his mystical interpretation to the Qur’anic verses illustrating the natural phenomena? Discussion begins with earth as the symbol of lowliness, then explaining the sky as symbols of the natural representation of the higher world. Filling the gap between the contested cosmological concepts Sahl Tustari offers his mystical concept of the light of Muhammad that becomes an intermediary channel for the lowly position of man in his way back to God

This paper provides one model of research on “Anthropology of Religion”, especially related to the integration of internal conflict and religious communities that have been well demonstrated in the book: “Conflict and Integration: Different thought of Islam” by Achmad Fedyani. Fedyani find that there are five factors of religions internal conflict between the NU and Muhammadiyah, namely: problem talafuz bi al-niyyat, talqīn problems, asyrakal problems, and problems “maaruwah”. Berdialog dengan Al-Qur’an: Perspektif Rasional-Filosofis
This article deals with the way of repositioning of al-Qur’an dealing with the subject in order to understand the meaning of al-Qur’an to be more contextual and applied in response to various issues of life. A rational-philosophical approach to the delivery of contextual understanding, a necessity when the approach of textual / literal can not provide a good solution at the level of satisfaction ratio, and the practical demands. A repositioning effort that has implications for the conseguences of ontological, epistemological and axiological.
Indonesian Muslim Scholars’ Conceptions on the Method of Thematic Interpretation of the Qur’an
This study deals with Indonesian Muslim scholars’ discussions on the method of thematic interpretation of the Qur’an during the period of 20 years, from the mid-1980s to the mid-2000s. It shows that, in Indonesian discourses on thematic method of Qur’an interpretation, three issues are recurrently dealt with: what kind of themes is most desirable, what principles should be underlined, and in what way the method of thematic interpretation should be applied. While some scholars argue that it would be better if the theme selected is closely related to the real problems facing the society like poverty and backwardness, some others do not privilege a certain kind of theme over the others. Regardless of the theme or the term to be discussed, however, two principles are commonly and recurrently highlighted with regard to the application of thematic method. The first is the importance of treating the Qur’an is on its own terms as a unity. The second is the importance of paying close attention to the chronology of the Qur’an revelation. As for the issue of how the method of thematic interpretation should be applied, this study shows that there are free important models of thematic interpretation introduced in Indonesia: the one that was popularized by Quraish Shihab, the one that is introduced by Dawam Rahardjo, and the one that was named thematic-chronological method by Taufik Adan Amal and Syamsu Rizal Panggabean while discussing a contextual approach to the Qur’an.
