    HABITAT SUITABILITY AND ZONING ANALYSIS FOR GREEN TURTLE Chelonia mydas IN THE MARINE CONSERVATION AREAS OF PANGUMBAHAN TURTLE PARK, SUKABUMI

    This study reviews the suitability of habitat for the green turtle in the Pangumbahan Turtle Park. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the existing zoning system and to provide recommendations of alternative zoning approach based on ecological suitability turtle habitat. Observations and fieldwork were undertaken throughout the coastal area of Pangumbahan from January to June 2015 by collecting data which include nesting site for turtles, sand temperature and moisture content, width of the beach, surface slope of the beach, vegetation cover, seagrass and secondary data. Methods of data analysis consists of suitability analysis with the spatial approach using Geographic Information System. The results of the analysis of overlay method were classified into three classes of suitability, which include very suitable covering 6,91 hectares, suitable covering 14,60 hectares and less suitable covering 37,21 hectares. The current existing zones needs to be revised using the recommended zoning system. As an implementation of the findings from this study as well as to effectively manage the conservation area based on the green turtle ecology, it is highly recommended to do a zoning system which is based on the principal of the green turtles habitat suitability to ensure the sustainability of the green turtle within the conservation area. This will ensure the zoning system suits the green turtles’ characteristics hence enabling each of the zones to effectively functioning

    APPLICATION OF UNDERWATER PHOTO TRANSECT METHOD TO UNDERSTAND CORAL REEFS COVER IN POMBO ISLAND, MALUKU

    Methods to understand coral reefs health are increasingly diverse. One of the promising method is georeferenced photo transect. In this method, a diver took benthic community photos using a camera installed or connected with a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver, so that each photo taken has a geographic coordinate on it. This spatial information is very useful for monitoring coral reefs health. The purpose of this research is to understand coral reefs cover in Pombo Island, Maluku by using georeferenced photo transect method. Field data collection was done in April 2015 with 14 transect lines. Overall of 14 transect lines, 3 transects are in Good category, other 3 transects are in Pretty Good category, and the rest of 8 transects are in Not Good category. Coral species commonly found around transect lines are Porites lutea, Porites lobata, Acropora valenciennesi, Acropora hyacinthus, Turbinaria mesenterina, Stylophora pistillata, Mycedium elephantotus, Acropora latistell

    This research was conducted to assess the physiological response of the lobster Panulirus homarus for the ratio of the shelters. The method used completely randomized design with two replicates of each treatments with shelter ratio (A) 1 : 5, (B) 3 : 5, (C) 4 : 5, (D) 5 : 5. Weight average for 184 lobsters with the stocking density of 23 lobsters for each treatment was 32.64 ± 0.58 g. The experiment was conducted for 60 days. The lobster was fed with trash fish and acclimatized for 7 days before the experiment. Observations on the physiologycal of every 10 days. The physiological responses that observed were total hemocyte count (THC) and hemolymph glucose concentration. The results showed that 4:5 was the best lobster shelter ratio because it could reduce stress levels. This is indicated by the stable values of THC and hemolymph glucose level during the experiment and supported by the growth of 57.28 ± 0.15 g and survival rate of 91.31 ± 2.60%. Keywords: lobster, Panulirus homarus, ratio, shelter, THC, glucos

    INCREASE OF IMMUNITY CANTIK HYBRID GROUPER JUVENILES BY LIPOPOLYSACCHARIDE (LPS)

    Disease is one of obstacle in fish culture. Immunity of fish against disease can be increased by using immunostimulant. The purpose of this experiment to increasing immunity of cantik hybrid grouper (cross breeding of tiger grouper, Epinephelus fuscoguttatus female with marbled grouper, E. polyphekadion male) to the diseases by using immunostimulant. Treatments were LPS cell walls of V. alginolyticus and commercial LPS was also used in this study, as a-control without LPS was used saline water (0.85% NaCl). The LPS was delivered by injection intra-muscularly with concentration of 0.1 mL/fish. This experiment was design by completely randomized with 3 replicates. Results showed that LPS were effective to increase titer antibody values and survival rates of cantik hybrid grouper. The titer antibody values of fish after 90 days rearing period were 128 (LPS from V. alginolyticus), 64 (commercial LPS), and only 4 in the control fish. The survival rates at the end of experiment were 88.67 ± 3.62% (LPS from V. alginolyticus), 85.22±5.93% (commercial LPS), and only 50.13 ± 6.11% in the control fish. Relative percentage survival of fish following challenged with live V. alginolyticus were 77.46% in the received LPS from V. alginolyticus cell wall and 71.12% in the fish received commercial LPS.     SEDIMENDT CHARACTERISTICS OF COASTAL WATERS AROUND INTENSIVE SHRIMP PONDS DURING WET SEASON IN PUNDUH BAY, PESAWARAN DISTRICT OF LAMPUNG PROVINCE

    The study was conducted using survey method. The sampling points were based on the distances from pond outlet toward offshore which were 25, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600 and 3200 m. Sample of sediments were collected using sediment grab then about 1-1.5 kg of samples were stored in plastic bags for analysis of pH, redox potential, carbon organic. The in-situ measurements were conducted for pH and redox potential using a pH mV and pH meter, probe HANNA instruments HI 8424, whereas other sediment quality variables were analysed under laboratory. The results of this study showed that the pH sediments were ranged between 6.38 – 7.80 with average of 7.36. Redox potential of sediments ranged between -186 to 72 mV, average - 88.39 mV. Carbon organic ranged between 0.30 – 9.85%, average 3.09%. Organic matter ranged between 0.30 – 9.85%, average 3.16%. Total nitrogen were ranged between 0.05 – 0.25% with average of 0.17%, phosphate were 8.62 – 187.71 mg/L with average of 88.43 mg/L.     SEDIMENT ACCUMULATION PROFILE IN MANGROVE RESTORATION AREA OF LEMBAR BAY-LOMBOK ISLAND

    Mangrove restoration is really needed for restoring its ecosystem functions, so that it could be able to support fisheries activity and to protect coastal by extreme weather. In addition, mangrove is able to accumulate sediment that important in protecting the coastal area from sea level rise. Therefore,  the aim of this study is to investigate sediment accumulation rate in mangrove area during post restoration. Sampling location were divided into three different stations based on estimated restoration ages, such as ≥ 15  years old (Station 1), 4 - 10 years old (Station 2) and 2 - 8 years old (Station 3). Sediment cores were carried out by inserting 7.6 cm diameter and 100 cm length of polyvinyl chloride pipes. Sedimentation rate is measured by using Pb-210 radionuclide analysis. The results show that the sediment accumulation rate in the last 20th years from all station ranges from 0.17 to 0.42 g/cm2/year. The highest accumulation rate is found at oldest year old station while the lowest accumulation rate is found at younger year old station of mangrove restoration area.     IMPACT OF SNORKELING AND DIVING TO CORAL REEF ECOSYSTEM

    Panggang Island is one of the snorkeling and diving area in the Seribu Islands. Number of tourists increase every year in line with the improving of tourism infrastructure such as tourist boat and dive shops. Tourism activities not only provide economic benefits but also give negative impact on coral reef ecosystem. The results of direct observations showed that there was destructive impact from snorkeling and diving. The most destructive behavior done by snorkeling and diver who has license was stepping on the coral reef. While the most destructive behavior by diver who has no license was holding the coral reef. The continued effect of tourist destructive behaviour grouped into three categories such as rubble, scratches on top of coral colony, and crushed coral colony. Based on the tourism impact analysis showed that diverwho has not been licensed gived the greatest damage impact,it was 13.55% per year of the ecological potential. While the impact of snorkeling touristwas 5.05% and diver who has license gived the smallest effect, it was 2.36%.  Comparison of coral reef data between 2010 and 2016 showed no significant changes to the coral reef, it means that until now coral reefs of Panggang Island still tolerate any disturbances including impact of tourism activities.Keywords : coral reef, diving, snorkeling, tourism, Panggang                      IslandPanggang Island is one of the snorkeling and diving area in the Seribu Islands.     GROW OUT AND EVALUATION OF FIRST GENERATION (F1) OF PROSPECTIVE HUMPBACK GROUPER Cromileptes altivelis BROODSTOCK

    During this time the humpback grouper broodstock spawning that comes from nature. Efforts to provide humpback grouper fish from cultured (F1) has been conducted and it has been spawn.  The purpose of this study was to determine the quality of broodstock first generation (F1) with a good maintenance management and monitoring evaluation of character growth, gonad development, and genetic characteristics through microsatelite marker.  Broodstock reared in concrete tank volume of 75 m3 with three different of hormonal implantation treatments: (1) estradiol, (2) 17α-methyltestosterone (MT), (3) a mixture of 17α-Methyl-testosterone by aromatase inhibitors, and control. The observed parameters were growth, gonad development, reproductive hormones in the blood composition and the performance of genetic through microsatellite analysis. The results showed that the humpback grouper F1 implantation treatment by methyl testosterone and estradiol showed good growth with an average body weight at the end of the observed ranged from 680 ± 60.5 to 820 ± 76,5g with an average body length of 34 -36 cm. In individual control growth better because during the maintenance of the population is not implanted. Analyses of testosterone and estradiol in the blood plasma showed that 40% of individuals in the population were males. Microsatellite analysis showed that F1 fish had good genetic variation (0.778-1.000) so that it can be used as broodstock candidate.

    OPTIMIZATION OF THE FORMULATED FEEDING IN JUVENILE CORAL TROUT, Plectropomus leopardus IN CONTROLLED TANK

    A coral trout grouper is the fishery commodities to generate foreign exchange through exports, to date cultivation continued. The purpose is to obtain data and information on the dose of the right artificial feeding and can increase the survival rate of the optimum seed nursery in the juvenile coral trout in controlled tank. Research has been conducted at the hatchery and the Institute for Mariculture Reasearch and Development Gondol, Bali. Containers experiment is used is a fiber with a size of 1 m³ up to 12 containers. test animals used were seeds of coral trout, Plectropomus leopardus with initial body length on average 3 cm with each treatment density of 100 fish/m³. Coral trout, Plectropomus leopardus seed kept in fibers. This type of feed given in the form of commercial pellet feed with a protein content of 48%, and additional food such as shrimp Mysid (jembret) for 10 days. The frequency of feeding 3 times a day (morning 8:00. local time, lunch 13:00 local time, and afternoon 17:00 local time). Treatment feeding attempted is the treatment of A = 5% dose of artificial feeding, B = 10% dose of artificial feeding, C = 15% dose of artificial feeding, and D = 20% dose of artificial feeding. The study used a completely randomized design with 4 treatments, each treatment was repeated 3 times. Data were analyzed by analysis of variance. If the variance is different then conducted a further test using the smallest real difference test (BNT). The results showed that significantly different (P <0.05) on survival, feed conversion, weight gain and body length of coral trout. The highest survival rate in treatment C = 15% dose artificial feeding is. = 90.83 ± 1.80%, followed by treatment D, B, and A
