    Urbanization influences the structure of population and the life style of a group of population called urban migrants. There are interrelationships between urbanization and education. The migrants need educational services while (schooling) education motivates them to migrate to urban areas. Women and children need to be educated through the out-of-school programs. Values educa-tion should be implanted so that they will be aware that their new environments are different from their old ones. A Value Education Center needs to be established. A number of program can be organized to develop the indegenous, national and universal culture values through massmedia and vocational-skill training centers

    The focus of this qualitative study is to describe the attempts made by Brawijaya University in developing its lecturers’ competence. Using snowball sampling, this study included data in the form of informa-tion from source people in the university and of relevant documents.     This classroom action research (CAR) was conducted to describe the effectiveness of the use of handicraft design and model in teaching arts. It implemented a cycle model involving planning, action, observation, and reflection. The subjects were fourth graders of the Laboratory Elementary School, Malang. Data were collected by using a participatory observation while the action was going on. The results indicated that handicraft design and model were always needed in teaching arts. The media helped improve the pupils' motivation in creating mosaics, sculptures, and reliefs

    Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui ide anak-anak tentang gaya yang bekerja pada benda diam dan benda bergerak. Subjeknya adalah murid SD berumur 8-10 tahun. Data dikumpulkan dengan kuesener yang menanyakan gaya yang bekerja pada benda diam dan benda bergerak, yang melibatkan manusia atau tidak. Data dideskripsikan dan dikategorikan untuk dicari keteraturan ide anak, dan selanjutnya dibandingkan dengan pendapat ilmuwan. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa anak-anak memiliki ide tentang gaya sebelum mendapat pengajaran di kelas. Sukar atau tidaknya anak mengenal gaya yang bekerja tergantung pada contoh gambar. Terdapat perbedaan dan persamaan antara ide anak-anak dan ilmuwan

    Teachers' Competence in Early-Literacy Learning. The study aimed at describing objectively teachers' competence in developing early literacy at elementary schools. Descriptive-qualitative analysis was employed to analyze the data which had been collected from first-grade teachers of three elementary schools in Blitar using Teacher-Competence Evaluation Instrument, documentation study, and field notes. The results suggest that teachers' competence in early-literacy learning, which involves planning, implementing, and evaluating, has not yet met the requirements of the 1994 curriculum of elementary school

    This correlational study was intended to examine the relationship between study guide and students’ attitudes, interests, motivation, and achievement. Thirty second-year students of SMUN 9 and 30 of SMUN 14 Makassar were selected at random. The instruments used to collect the data were an achivement test, questionnaires, interviews, and observation. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics as well as regression and qualitative analyses. The findings indicate that the students’ attitudes, interests, and learning motivation were of low category and that their achievement was fair. Attitudes, interests, and motivation were found to have positive correlations with students’ achievement; study guide was also found to have effects on students’ attitudes, interests, motivation, and achievement
