Analysis of Potential Reduction of Atmospheric Emissions from Harvesting Process in Sugarcane Fields in Tamasopo-Mexico and Campos Dos Goytacazes-Brazil
Get PDFThe increase in greenhouse gas emissions, mainly due to the burning of fossil fuels and land use change, has led to changes in the global climate. Agriculture is one of the economic sectors most vulnerable to the impacts generated by climate change. For this reason, the challenge facing humanity today is to develop innovative solutions to address the complexity of agricultural sustainability.
On the other hand, sugarcane is one of the crops that emits the most pollutants into the atmosphere, mainly due to the burning of sugarcane before and after harvesting. Most of these atmospheric pollutants are precursors of climate change and have an impact on the health and quality of life of communities. Moreover, this agricultural practice causes the gradual deterioration of the soil, directly affecting sugarcane production. Consequently, several sugarcane-producing countries have established regulations or dispositions to eliminate this agricultural practice, and one option to eliminate it is the mechanization of harvesting. However, its implementation implies social, environmental, and economic impacts that must be analyzed systemically to avoid potential failures during the technological transition process. It is for this reason that this research, through the MICMAC method, focused on identifying the variables associated with the reduction of sugarcane burning in Campos dos Goytacazes and Tamasopo, to subsequently analyze their direct and indirect interrelationship, and, thus, determine the opportunities and limitations of each locality for the reduction of sugarcane burning.
Through this analysis, it became evident that although the technological transition is an imminent step for the sustainability of sugarcane cultivation, certain factors such as legislation, technological innovation, and the perception of the stakeholders regarding the consequences of sugarcane burning, is what defines in the study sites the speed and subsequent success of this process of change towards green harvesting

Heat Transfer and Hydrodynamics of Slip Confusor Flow under Second-Order Boundary Conditions
Get PDFThe paper focused on an analytical analysis of the main features of heat transfer in incompressible steady-state flow in a microconfusor with account for the second-order slip boundary conditions. The second-order boundary conditions serve as a closure of a system of the continuity, transport, and energy differential equations. As a result, novel solutions were obtained for the velocity and temperature profiles, as well as for the friction coefficient and the Nusselt number. These solutions demonstrated that an increase in the Knudsen number leads to a decrease in the Nusselt number. It was shown that the account for the second-order terms in the boundary conditions noticeably affects the fluid flow characteristics and does not influence on the heat transfer characteristics. It was also revealed that flow slippage effects on heat transfer weaken with an increase in the Prandtl number

No full textThis monograph contains materials on the history of the Polish literary magazine “Topos”, published in Sopot since 1993. During its 30-year history, the bimonthly has been continuously run by Krzysztof Kuczkowski – a Sopot poet, editor, cultural organiser, manager of the Sierakowski Manor in Sopot. Kuczkowski gave the magazine a clear ideological line: it is a magazine for supporters of literature open to the metaphysical dimension, inspired by Christianity, attached to the canon and faithful to the idea of classical beauty. Around the “Topos” magazine a group of eight poets gathered, who – without forming a group – formed a loose association called the “’Topos’ constellation”. It consists of: Krzysztof Kuczkowski, Wojciech Kass, Wojciech Kudyba, Artur Nowaczewski, Przemysław Dakowicz, Jarosław Jakubowski, Adrian Gleń and Wojciech Gawłowski. Kuczkowski also initiated the publishing of the prestigious Topos Library, which has published over 180 volumes of poetry and many other critical books and anthologies. Every two years he also organised the Sopot Literature Festival. “Topos”, its editor and the poets gathered around the magazine became an impor tant institution in Polish culture at the beginning of the 21st century, strongly oppose the domination of the post-modern trend in culture. The conference “Topos”: literary magazine, idea, artistic environment (Bialystok, 15–16/11/2018) in Białystok was organised by the “East – West” Department of Philological Research. Department of Inter war and Contemporary Literature of the Faculty of Philology at the University of Białystok, the Society of Friends of Sopot, the Łukasz Górnicki Academic Department of the Książnica Podlaska, and the “Oikoumene” Academic Association. The originator of the session was Professor Jarosław Ławski, cooperating with “Topos” since 2012. Twenty-four papers were presented at the Conference (most are included in this volume). The following research questions were addressed: – “Topos”: the history of the magazine, the reception of its output. – The idea of topoi in the magazine’s circle, its aesthetic and axiological profile. – The Constellation of the “Topos” poets: individualities, ideas, themes, traditions. – The “Topos Library”: its creators, ideas, works, their interpretations. – Poetry and poets in the pages of “Topos”. Débuts. – Critical literary thought of the circles focused around the magazine. – “Topos” and polemics around the model of Polish literature in 1989/1993–2018. – The concept of the word in the circle of the authors of “Topos”. – The literary life of the community: festivals, prizes, meetings with authors. – The ideas of “Topos” in the new media: radio, Internet, television. The monograph presents two types of texts: (1) those devoted to the journal “Topos”, its history, its initiatives, and (2) those focused on the literary achievements of the poets of the “‘Topos’ constellation”. The volume
was edited by Prof. Jarosław Ławski – researcher of, among other things, contemporary poetry, author of the essay Konstelacja Toposu [The Constellation of Topos] (afterword to the anthology Konstelacja Toposu, Sopot 2015). The volume contains rich illustrative material about the magazine, changes in its graphic design, authors and events, as well as the Conference, which was accompanied by cultural events (the meeting of “To pos” poets with readers in the Książnica Podlaska, the meeting of Krzysztof Kuczkowski with high school students from the 4th High School in Białystok, the panel “Topos” – the magazine and the world of ideas, on 16
November 2018). It is worth mentioning that the creator of the journal and the protagonist of the monograph Krzysztof Kuczkowski (born 1955) on the first day of the Conference (15 November 2018) was honoured with the All-Polish Franciszek Karpiński Prize, awarded for the 24th time by the Catholic Association “Civitas Christiana”. In its justification for the Prize, the jury emphasised that the Laureate received it for “creating an original model of metaphysical poetry, running the bimonthly ‘Topos’ for a quarter of a century, and organising a unique centre of Christian culture and literature”. A pragma-rhetorical study of selected Pentecostal sermons in Nigeria
No full textThis study examines persuasion and communicative intentions in Pentecostal sermons in Nigeria. Notwithstanding the high scholarly inputs in religious discourse, no single work has examined the devices employed to achieve persuasion and conviction as well as communicative intentions in Pentecostal sermons in Nigeria. This work examines twelve sermons of selected Pentecostal preachers in Nigeria by drawing insights from rhetoric and pragmatic act to account for persuasion and communicative intentions in the data. Findings reveal that preachers strategically deploy rhetorical question; direct address and direct command; metaphor; repetition and structural parallelism; and they develop convincing arguments through logic/reason. It is also revealed that preachers share experiences with their listeners and they assume divine role by speaking authoritatively to convince their listeners into accepting their propositions. Preachers perform pragmatic acts of asserting/stating, encouraging, assuring, directing, commanding, praising, etc. The study has further confirmed that Pentecostal sermons can be used for public [email protected], [email protected]. Equal educational opportunities for students with disabilities – 10 years of experience in the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Krakow
No full textThe right to education is one of the fundamental human rights which enables personal development, independence, and full participation in all spheres of life. Article 70 of the Polish Constitution grants everyone the right to education and obliges public authorities to ensure universal and equal access to education for all citizens. By ratifying the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Poland recognized the right of this group of people to education and committed itself to ensuring an inclusive education system enabling integration at all levels of education. Poland has also ensured that these people will have access to universal higher education without discrimination, based on the principle of equality. Since 2008 the Office of Persons with Disabilities has been functioning in the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Krakow, which supports disabled students and PhD students of our University. The development of the Office over the period of more than ten years, applied procedures, and support systems are described in the article. The dignity of a child is an irreducible ontic and educational value
No full textCzłowiek powołany do życia otrzymuje je w darze. Przeżywa je jako osoba. Nieredukowalnym fundamentem osoby jest jej godność. Człowiek przeżywa ją w wymiarze immanentnym już od poczęcia. Odpowiednie odniesienie do godności życia przekłada się na jego pielęgnowanie i nadawanie właściwego kierunku rozwoju w procesie wychowywania. Analiza ontyczna godności dziecka jest tą samą, która dotyczy człowieka jako takiego. Bycie dzieckiem jest bowiem etapem życia, a nie konstytutywnym komponentem ontologicznym osoby. Podjęta teza zawarta w temacie artykułu: godność dziecka nieredukowalną wartością ontyczno-wychowawczą jest argumentowana w wymiarze ontycznym, personalistycznym, teologicznym i pedagogicznym. Autor konsekwentnie dowodzi, że zmieniające się uwarunkowania społeczno-kulturowe życia nie mogą wymusić zmiany w interpretacji godności dziecka. Dziecko jest osobą bez względu na etap jego rozwoju i wymaga podobnie jak każdy człowiek odpowiedniego szacunku. Misterium osoby nie da się zamknąć w jakiekolwiek definicje. Istnienie osobowe jest autonomiczne i zależne wyłącznie od Boga, chociaż przekazanie życia dokonuje się w akcie prokreacji. Od pierwszych chwil rozwoju prenatalnego dziecko sprawne i niepełnosprawne staje się kimś jedynym, niepowtarzalnym jako owoc miłości Boga. Bycie osobą w sytuacji dziecka należy odróżnić od kształtowania jego osobowości w procesie wychowania. Osoba jest
źródłem dla oddziaływania wychowawczego wpływającego na formowanie osobowości dziecka.A human being brought to life receives life as a gift and lives it out as a person. The irreducible foundation of the person is his or her dignity. Man experiences it in the immanent dimension right from conception. An appropriate reference to the dignity of human life translates into its nurturing and giving correct direction to the development in the process of upbringing. The ontic analysis of the child’s dignity is the same as that of man as such. For being a child is a stage of life and not a constitutive ontological component of the person. The thesis undertaken in the topic of this article: the dignity of the child as an irreducible ontic and educational value is argued in the ontic, personalistic, theological, and pedagogical dimensions. The author consistently proves that the changing social and cultural conditions of life cannot force a change in the interpretation of the child’s dignity. A child is a person regardless of the stage of their development and, like every human being, deserves proper respect. The mystery of the person cannot be exhausted by any definition. Personal existence is autonomous and dependent only on God, although the transmission of life takes place within the act of procreation. From the first moments of prenatal development, whether abled or disabled, a child becomes someone unique, unrepeatable fruit of God’s love. The child’s personhood should be distinguished from shaping its personality in the process of upbringing. Potential and relations of a university in a society and economy based on knowledge
No full textThe aim of the conceptual and constructivist efforts undertaken in the article was to present an outline of the evolution of network development and hyper-networks as well as a justification for the need to build increasingly complex social, economic, and public authorities. Such possibilities are created by the use of new concepts, methods, and ideas that not only precisely describe and explain complex relations of influence, but also indicate the need to strengthen the cooperation of an increasing number of institutions and organizations. It is a necessary process to design the next stages of learning and building multidimensional and multilevel interactions between universities, authorities, public administration, local and regional communities, and economic organizations. The author adopted Barton Clark’s model as the first common theoretical platform for the presented issues. It consists of three elements: the academic oligarchy, the market, and state power. He then extended it to the model of a triple and quadruple spiral of socio-economic control relations according to the model of H. Etzkowitz and L. No full textThe Scientific Library of the Odessa I. I. Mechnikov National University tracks its history from the book collection of the Richelieu Lyceum, which was found in 1817. Formation of the lyceum’s library collections lasted throughout the entire period of this institution’s existence. All transformations of the library were associated with the reform of the institution itself. There are several ways in which the library of the Richelieu Lyceum was replenished: the centralized purchase of educational literature at the expense of the annual financing, „replaced” literature (publications from the Vilna Medical and Surgical Academy), and gifts from organizations and individuals. One of the most important book procurements of Novorossiysk University was a valuable collection of old printed publications from the library of the Polish lawyer and historian Senator Romuald Hube (1803–1890), which contained mostly legal texts, ranging from the oldest sources of law, comments to reprints of the codes performed in the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries and special studies. It was the library of the famous Polish slavist, ethnographer and traveler Professor Andrzej Franciszek Kucharski. At the end of the 19th century the library received a fine private book collection of Count O. G.
