Janusz Krasiński’s Portrait of George Sand in Kochankowie z klasztoru Valdemosa in Contrast with Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz’s Lato w Nohant?
No full textThe article discusses the portrayal of George Sand in Janusz Krasiński’s drama Kochankowie z klasztoru Valdemosa [The lovers from Valdemosa convent]. The uniqueness of Sand’s depiction in the contextof Polish culture relies not only on an empathetic reading of Sand’s biography (similarto her representation by Ferdinand Hoesick), but also on treating her asa serious writer. The article also juxtaposes this portrait of Sand with the much better known representation presented in Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz’s Lato w Nohant [Summer in Nohant]. The author of the article shows that the thesis which holds that these dramas could be treated as a theatrical diptych about the beginning and the end of the artists’ relationship is un-founded. In her opinion, the differences in the constructionof Sand’s character cannot be explained here by the different age of the same heroine, as they serve to convey divergent assessments of her character. Jerusalem: the city, religion, imagination, and the media (“Dostrzegacz Nadwiślański”, “Safrus”, and “Nowe Życie”)
No full textA well-known researcher of the Polish-Jewish press of the 19th and 20th centuries, Prof. Dariusz K. Sikorski, analyzes depictions of Jerusalem in three Polish-Jewish periodicals: Dostrzegacz Nadwiślański, Safrus, and Nowe Życie. The author distinguishes between two images of Jerusalem: symbolic and “urban,” emphasizing the strong dominance of the representational image: “Jerusalem – the symbol of Jewishness, depicted in
newspapers, prayers, poetry, art, journalism, historical research, presented in testimonies in letters or diaries, is a constant object of fascination, but also a figure in ideological discourses seeking to control the Jewish public imagination. I pointed out that there is an anchoring of symbolism associated with Jerusalem in the domestic sphere, the least known because it is private but exists in everyday life. Signs and patterns acquired in the “culture of the home” become part of the collective culture, interacting with various ideological messages. Urban Jerusalem, on the other hand, shaped from the late 19th century to 1917, is a city with ideas of self-government, of coexistence between different religions and ethnic groups. Design and Test of a radiation tolerant FPGA system for the use in a particle accelerator experiment at CERN
Get PDFThis project was done in collaboration with CERN and is part of the detector control system of the ATLAS experiment. The primary goal foresaw the development and testing of the FPGA card for the MOPS-HUB crate with the focus on radiation tolerance. This was accomplished with the approach of designing two different PCBs. The first PCB was created as a fast prototype with the use of a commercial SOM-board. This was also beneficial for confirming that the chosen FPGA is suitable for the MOPS-HUB application. After the successful assembly and test, a second, more complex and foremost radiation tolerant PCB was designed. This was achieved by solely using components of the CERN radiation database.
The second part of this thesis focuses on increasing the distance of TMR registers with a Python script. A method was created for extracting and later parsing a design’s placement
information from Vivado. Furthermore, were system designed and implemented to recognize TMR cells, to find and validate free cells and to finally create a new placement for import into Vivado. These algorithms were tested with a multitude of configurations and the quality, based on the maximum possible frequency of a design, determined.Dieses Projekt wurde in Zusammenarbeit mit CERN durchgeführt und ist Teil vom Detector Control System des ATLAS Experiments. Das Hauptziel war es die FPGA Karte für
das MOPS-HUB System zu erstellen und dabei die besondere Vorraussetzung der Strahlenresistenz zu erfüllen. Dies wurde mit dem Ansatz erreicht, zwei verschiedene Leiterplatten zu entwerfen. Die erste Leiterplatte wurde als schneller Prototyp unter Verwendung eines kommerziellen SOM-Boards erstellt. Dies war auch von Vorteil, um zu bestätigen, dass der gewählte FPGA überhaupt für die MOPS-HUB Anwendung geeignet ist. Nach erfolgreicher Bestückung und Prüfung dieser Platine wurde eine zweite, komplexere und vor allem strahlungstolerante Leiterplatte entworfen. Dies wurde erreicht, indem ausschließlich Komponenten der CERN-Strahlungsdatenbank verwendet wurden.
Der zweite Teil dieser Arbeit konzentriert sich auf die Vergrößerung des Abstands von triplizieren Registern mit einem Python-Skript. Dies wurde durch die Entwicklung einer
Methode zum Extrahieren der Platzierungsinformationen eines Designs aus Vivado erreicht. Darüber hinaus wurden Methoden entwickelt und implementiert, um triplizierte Zellen zu erkennen, freie Zellen zu finden und zu validieren und schließlich eine neue Platzierung für den Import in Vivado zu erstellen. Get PDFZiel der vorliegenden Arbeit ist es zu beantworten, wie Lehrmethoden durch die Anwendung von Gamification und Nudging verbessert werden können, um so die Motivation der Lernenden und die Anwendbarkeit der Lehrmethoden zu verbessern.
Dazu wird der Einfluss von Gamification auf die menschliche Motivation anhand von etablierten Literaturquellen analysiert.
Weiterführend erfolgt die Betrachtung der menschlichen Fehlbarkeiten und dem damit verbundenen Einsatz von Nudging zur Etablierung eines intendierten normativen Verhaltens.
Aufbauend auf dem Behavior Modell von B. J. Fogg wird im Anschluss daran ein einheitliches Vorgehen in Form eines Canvas entwickelt und beschrieben. Dieses bezieht sowohl den Kontext einer Lehrmethode als auch das aktuelle sowie das intendierte Verhalten einer fest definierten Zielgruppe ein. Ausgehend von dieser Grundlage können mögliche Ansätze für Befähigungen und Motivationen identifiziert und daraus resultierend geeignete Nudging- und Gamification-Ideen im Brainstorming-Verfahren generiert werden.
Die Nutzbarkeit des Canvas wird abschließend anhand von vier exemplarisch ausgewählten Lehrmethoden dargestellt, untersucht und die Ergebnisse reflektiert.
Dabei kann eine schnelle Identifizierung von Nudging- und Gamification-Ideen bezogen auf die betrachteten Lehrmethoden beobachtet werden.
Die Qualität der Ergebnisse gilt es jedoch noch in einer darauf aufbauenden Evaluation zu ermitteln
Quality of FDM 3D Printed Medicines for Pediatrics: Considerations for Formulation Development, Filament Extrusion, Printing Process and Printer Design
Get PDF3d printing is capable of providing dose individualization for pediatric medicines and translating the precision medicine approach into practical application. In pediatrics, dose individualization and preparation of small dosage forms is a requirement for successful therapy, which is frequently not possible due to the lack of suitable dosage forms. For precision medicine, individual characteristics of patients are considered for the selection of the best possible API in the most suitable dose with the most effective release profile to improve therapeutic outcome. 3d printing is inherently suitable for manufacturing of individualized medicines with varying dosages, sizes, release profiles and drug combinations in small batch sizes, which cannot be manufactured with traditional technologies. However, understanding of critical quality attributes and process parameters still needs to be significantly improved for this new technology. To ensure health and safety of patients, cleaning and process validation needs to be established. Additionally, adequate analytical methods for the in-process control of intermediates, regarding their printability as well as control of the final 3d printed tablets considering any risk of this new technology will be required. The PolyPrint consortium is actively working on developing novel polymers for fused deposition modeling (FDM) 3d printing, filament formulation and manufacturing development as well as optimization of the printing process, and the design of a GMP-capable FDM 3d printer. In this manuscript, the consortium shares its views on quality aspects and measures for 3d printing from drug-loaded filaments, including formulation development, the printing process, and the printed dosage forms. Additionally, engineering approaches for quality assurance during the printing process and for the final dosage form will be presented together with considerations for a GMP-capable printer design
The concept and meaning of the family in the context of the deliberations of Blessed Father Michał Sopocko
No full textThe thematic scope of the article is related to the re-edition of the book by Fr. Michał Sopoćka, entitled – Family in legislation in the Polish Lands (Ethical and legal study), published in Vilnius in 1926. This is the published version of the doctoral dissertation on the basis of which Fr. Michał Sopoćko, received a doctorate in theology on March 1, 1926. The article does not pretend to be a comprehensive study of the issue contained in the title, it is only an attempt to draw attention to the topicality of the issue of the family raised by Fr. Sopoćko in his doctoral dissertation and the need to continue this issue in the context of legislation and ethics, and Christian morality. The reference to the family theory of Fr. Michał Sopocko – a zealous priest, theologian, social worker, servant of God, it is all the more justified that in the era of strong ideological, worldview, propaganda and ideological tendencies against the national and Christian culture, the 20th / 21st century family found itself in the face of difficult problems – there is even talk of a family crisis. Formerly hidden are coming to light: violence, harassment on various grounds, psychological torment, and even sexual violence against children, incest and crimes of infanticide. Hence, the reference to the Christian model of a family created on the basis of a humanistic approach to human existence is becoming particularly important today and – perhaps – most needed by people. It allows us to strive for the place and right of existence of the Christian vision of the world, the image of man and the Christian system of values in the public space. The more so because Fr. Michał Sopoćko, as an apostle of the truth and worship of Divine Mercy, recognized the truth about man, marriage and family on the basis of the intellectual tradition of personalism and Christian culture. Wincenty Lutosławski’s Path of Thought and his Discovery of the Self
No full textWincenty Lutosławski was the creator of an original philosophical system of a spiritualistic nature; the foundation of this particular system is the assumption that the Self – identified by him with the Soul – is an immaterial and indestructible being. The beginning of Lutosławski’s philosophical path was the overnight “Discovery of the Self” as described by him on April 9, 1885 in Dorpat (today’s Tartu, Estonia). The author of this paper attempts to show the background of this event, also presenting how this one particular moment experienced by Lutosławski at the age of 22 influenced his entire private and scientific life till the very end. The “Discovery of the Self” analysed here had lasting consequences for Lutosławski’s entire creation. The second crucial moment in his biography is November 12, 1900, related to his “Discovery of God” and resulting in his return to the Catholic faith. This second discovery did not, however, change the main assumptions of the Metaphysics of Self. After converting to Christianity, which he had abandoned in high school, Lutosławski expanded his scope of thought to include national Messianism and religious mysticism, but the philosophical system he had developed in the years 1885-1954 remained coherent.JERZY ZIEMACKI (1988) – mgr, absolwent studiów magisterskich oraz doktoranckich w Instytucie Filozofii Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego. No full textArtykuł dostępny w dwóch wersjach językowych (tłumaczenie angielskie).W angielskim narodowym programie nauczania edukacji obywatelskiej (National Curriculum) ujęto problematykę przestępczości wśród nieletnich. Akcent na wieloapsektowe rozumienie przestępczości został położony szczególnie na trzecim kluczowym etapie kształcenia, a zatem dla młodzieży między 11 a 14 rokiem życia. Ponadto, działania edukacji obywatelskiej wpisują się w przeciwdziałanie przestępczości. W niniejszym artykule podjęto próbę analizy problematyki przeciwdziałania przestępczości wśród nieletnich w ramach wybranych aspektów szkolnej edukacji obywatelskiej w Anglii. W tym też celu analizie poddane zostały strategiczne dokumenty rządowe stanowiące podstawę do wprowadzenia, utrzymania i reformowania edukacji obywatelskiej w angielskim systemie szkolnym. W celu uzyskanie szerszej perspektywy dokonam również analizy wybranych podręczników szkolnych do edukacji obywatelskiej. Podjętą problematykę ulokowana została w kontekstach społeczno-politycznych i pedagogicznych.The issues of crime among youth are included in the citizenship education in England. The multi-facet understanding of crime is developed especially on the Key Stage 3. The citizenship education may be perceived – to some extend – as a transmitter of crime prevention among the youth. Thus, the author wanted to analyse how crime and crime prevention is presented in the strategic governmental documents on citizenship education. The aim of the paper is to analyse crime prevention among the youth in citizenship education in England. Moreover, in order to gain a broader perspective on subject in question, the selected textbooks for citizenship education were analysed in the context of crime. Reception of Warsaw by prince Vasil- Konstantin Ostrozky in the novel Six days, or the crown of the ostrozky house by Peter Kralyuk
No full textThe article analyzes the topos ofWarsaw in the historical novel Six Days, or the Crown of the Ostrozky House by modern Ukrainian writer Petro Kralyuk. The capital of Poland is depicted from the point of view of the main character of the work – Prince Vasyl-Konstantin Ostrozky. It is established that from the 16th century Warsaw was one of the key cities of the newly created state – the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Ostrozky was forced to visit it quite often. It was found that the above-mentioned city was perceived negatively for Vasyl-Konstantin. This fact is explained by the numerous personal and national losses that, in one way or another, affected Warsaw. The author’s means of tracing the image of the Polish capital (the status of the city, natural resources, colors, landscape, its connection with historical events and figures) are traced. It is emphasized that one of the sections of P. Kralyuk’s work has an eloquent title Black color. Warsaw. Selected Codification Challenges in Polish Family Law
No full textPolish family law is undergoing change. For some time now, there have been various initiatives for its possible revision. However, social needs are ahead of legislators’ actions. Today there are a number of legislative challenges facing the Polish legislator in the context of the metamorphosis of Polish family law. The author presents selected problems connected with it and answers the question concerning the desirable way of further work on the metamorphosis of the present regulation of Polish family law. The author also presents issues that cannot be ignored in the context of preparing possible draft amendments to the current legislation. He highlights the role of the Commission on European Family Law and proposes that the starting point for the further metamorphosis of Polish family law would be the establishment of such a body in Poland based on the model of the Commission for the Codification of Family and Guardianship Law, whose work should be transparent and widely available.
