Urban Sufism: The New Spirituality of Urban Communities in Indonesia
No full textThe backgrounds of this research was the three major difficulties experienced by Indonesia nation after the political transformation of 1998, i.e. economic crisis in 1998, terrorism, and natural disasters. People who live in difficult situations need a way to solve the problem. Besides the physical solution, mental solutions (e.g. spirituality and religiosity) have significant role as a way out of trouble. In this context, the excitement of spiritualism in the community, whether urban or rural, is marked the strengthening of local spirituality and beliefs, for example sufism. Sufism has become a necessity of life of modern society. Even recently there is an interesting phenomenon of the urban community stretching to the study of Sufism. This study focused on understanding and history of Sufism in general, the emergence of Urban Sufism in Indonesia, the types and the contributing factors.This research is a library research which used philosophical hermeneutic method. Elements of methods used are description, historical, language analytics, verstehen, and heuristics.The result of the research are described as follows: Urban Sufism is a religious social phenomenon of urban society arising from the quest on spiritual dimension of religion. One significant factor that encourages the emergence of this movement is people missed the spiritual aspect wich is almost missing in daily life. No full textTujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menginventarisasi pandangan Islam terhadap kepemimpinan wanita dalam mewujudkan masyarakat madani di Indonesia dan melakukan evaluasi kritis tentang kepemimpinan wanita sehingga hal tersebut dapat dipahami oleh bangsa Indonesia yang ber-Bhinneka Tunggal Ika yang berwilayah dari Sabang-Merauke.Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode analisis, sintesis dan verstehen. Metode-metode tersebut digunakan untuk menguraikan data-data yang diperoleh sesuai dengan bagian-bagiannya kemudian digabungkan satu per satu, sehingga diperoleh suatu hasil penelitian dan diambil kesimpulan dengan menggunakan kaidah-kaidah logika yang dapat dipertanggungjawabkan secara ilmiah.Berdasarkan hasil penelitian yang telah dianalisis, maka dapat diambil kesimpulan bahwa pandangan Islam terhadap kepemimpinan wanita dalam mewujudkan masyarakat madani di Indonesia merupakan suatu proses berpikir filosofis religius dalam rangka meraih suatu kejelasan dalam memahami masalah-masalah krusial, yang terutama berkaitan dengan kepemimpinan seorang wanita, kehidupan masyarakat dalam suasana kemajuan di bidang ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi pada saat ini yang terdapat dalam masyarakat madani.Kata kunci: kepemimpinan/pemimpin wanita, masyarakat madani, Indonesia

No full textEssential issue in the study of the metaphysics of symbol is based on two main questions: (1) is a symbol immanent in human (and limitedly rooted in the human spirit) or symbol is also rooted to the transcendent (which address the human and his life)?; and (2) is a symbol just has horizontal dimension or vertical dimension as well?The creation of keris is a mixture of desires, hopes, goals, and desired benefits from the buyer if the dagger with a sense, initiative and creativity embodied in the master symbols at luk, dhapur, and pamor. The master in the making process, entered the dimensions of the symbols commonly applicable in the Javanese community. Javanese keris analyzed from the point of the symbol, can be concluded that the symbol visible at the class of ordinary Javanese (the public) is more vertical-transcendental, and the special group (the intellectuals) Javanese symbol doubles the vertical dimension-transcendental, as well as horizontal-immanent, while the new class (the keris is considered as art), Javanese symbolism over the horizontal dimension-immanent

No full textIndonesian culture has a strong root in a culture of island communities. The culture, especially philosophy of the island communities is not so much revealed in studies of philosophy and culture. Therefore, this article will explore and explain philosophical values that shape the self-concept of the island communities. Epistemology is used as a formal object, while the material object is the island communities’ views and way of life. This article concludes that for the island communities, their islands are not just meant as a territorial locus, but also a cultural and personal locus because the islands have a concept of self and a sense of space and existence. Every community always identifies and conceptualizes themselves in a cosmological and socio-cultural concept. Every community has local knowledges, values, and institutions that are formed by an original natural ratio. The natural ratio grows from cosmic consciousness level to magical (religious) consciousness, and finally social consciousness. Willingness and policies are needed to build resilience and progress of the nation existence through a development of the island communities manifestly. The development of island communities must become one of important features of national development in Indonesia

No full textNegative images of Samin community until now is still felt by a small community in Central Java. This is not completely true because the people of Samin also has ethical values in their life. This study is a library research, with the moral values of Samin community as material object and ethics as formal object. The purpose of this study was to explore the ethics of Samin community. The results of this study confirm that there are two ethics in the local wisdom of Samin community, namely theological and deontological ethics. Theological ethics rooted in the book of the Religion of Adam Jamus Kalimasada, associated with nobleness of soul and character. Deontological ethics, as obligations contained in the teachings of Samin, such as: aja srei drengki, tukar padu, dahpen kemeren, and mbadhog colong. This principles are categorically imperative which must be implemented in daily life that also affect the harmony of the universe

The aim ofexecuting a critical reformation and enlightenment towards the claims of sectoral knowledge, even the claims of the repressive community that· tend to perpetuate the power of the status quo as a "false consciousness ".This research aims to study is to construct a complete, whole and basicunderstanding concerning "Socio-epistemology" including its main claim as a branch of epistemology. A transcendental critique. of the theories of knowledge plus the modem social theories will be executed in order to build a Hdialectic tension" as the basic characteristic, of "Socio-epistemology". In relation to the aim and scope ofthis discussion, .' this research has been conducted using the factual historical philosophical method. The factual historical method is a method used in philosophy that .Ises a set ofsystematic principles and norms to discover, classify and process the material and also analyse in a whole, basic and critical manner.It is shown that the term "Socio-epistemology" characterises itselfas a part of critical philosophy ("critical program '') that sets itself towards optimisticenlightenment and reform. in relation. to the egoistic and ideological claims of sectoral knowledge. The main strength ofenlightenment and reform towards dialectit! illustrates'its essential character. Dialectical .roles in "Socio-epistemology" are distinctive. because of the dialectical "tension ". This dialectical tension manifests itselfin and through criticism, openness, correction, and continua/reform leading to emancipation and hypothetical consensus in the framework of praxis. As a "critical program" towards. the theory of knowledge (transcendent criticism), "Socioepistemology" tries to overcome. and release the various dogmatic rigidity that controls the· realm· ofknowledge. development under the power of "Scientism " and "Technology" or "Positivism". In this way, it is shown that knowledge is always characterised as relational and it possesses a social base including within it the interests of mankind..
