    Democracy, local election, and political dynasty in Indonesian politics

    Liberal democracy has been chosen as a model and political mechanism after Soeharto era. One of its triumphs is local election that becomes a political instrument of democratisation at regional level. Many scholars believe that local democratisation in Indonesia enables local people to involve more actively in the political process. This political exercise in some cases, however, results in a paradoxical impact on Indonesian political realm today, as some practices of political dynasty frequently emerge. Using participatory point of view, this article aims to discuss why such political dynasty can possibly emerge within an electoral system, what factors cause it and how its consequences on the practice of local democracy in Indonesia in the future. Through the literature studies, we argue that although the liberal democratisation in Indonesia is successful in making local politics institutionally more democratic, it still suffers a lot of deficiencies and limitations especially in terms of accommodating people’s participation at local level

    Pengadopsian sistem presidensial multipartai di Indonesia sejak tahun 2004 berpotensi menyebabkan gangguan terhadap stabilitas dan efektivitas penyelenggaraan pemerintahan, karena disharmoni relasi antara Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat dan Presiden. Terlebih, tidak terlihat adanya peran yang signifikan dari dua kamar lain di badan legislatif yaitu Majelis Permusyawaratan Rakyat dan Dewan Perwakilan Daerah dalam memoderasi konflik antara Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat dan Presiden. Tulisan ini menggunakan pendekatan relasi legislatif dan eksekutif dalam sistem presidensial multipartai serta teori sistem perwakilan untuk menggambarkan hubungan antara badan legislatif dan eksekutif di Indonesia serta memberikan alternatif solusi untuk mengembangkan relasi yang harmonis antara lembaga eksekutif dan legislatif dengan melakukan reposisi terhadap lembaga legislatif. Tulisan ini menawarkan dua alternatif reposisi: pertama, pengadopsian sistem bikameral kuat atau bikameral simetris, dan kedua, memformalisasikan peran Majelis Permusyawaratan Rakyat sebagai forum musyawarah tertinggi untuk merumuskan haluan negara.

    Etika penyelenggara pemilu telah diatur dengan Peraturan Bersama di mana ketika peraturan itu dilanggar, maka penyelenggara pemilu itu dapat diberi sanksi sampai yang terberat: pemberhentian tetap. Meskipun demikian, peraturan ketat itu tak berhasil membuat empat orang Komisioner Labuhan Batu Selatan tak melakukan manipulasi dalam Pilkada Labuhan Batu Selatan 2015 yang berujung pada diberhentikannya mereka oleh DKPP. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk menjawab pertanyaan: ‘Mengapa terjadi manipulasi dalam Pilkada Labuhan Batu Selatan tahun 2015?” Dengan menggunakan metode kualitati serta pengumpulan data melalui wawancara mendalam dan studi dokumen, artikel ini menjelaskan bagaimana konteks awal terjadinya manipulasi, proses-proses yang terjadi setelahnya saat Pilkada berlangsung, dan penjelasan mengapa terjadi manipulasi disertai analisis dengan menggunakan kerangka teori manipulasi Pemilu. Sedikit berbeda dengan argumen pada umumnya bahwa manipulasi dalam pemilu terjadi karena adanya kepentingan memastikan kemenangan petahana agar bisa melewati batas menang minimal, artikel ini berargumen bahwa manipulasi dalam Pilkada Labuhan Selatan tahun 2015 disebabkan adanya kombinasi antara kepentingan memenangkan petahana dan kelemahan dalam aturan tentang proses rekrutmen penyelenggara Pilkada.

    Musyawarah Daerah (MUSDA) Partai Golkar Kabupaten Gorontalo yang dilaksanakan 28 Agustus 2016 untuk memilih ketua dan pengurus baru berbeda dengan MUSDA sebelumnya. Salah satunya kandidat yang tidak diunggulkan, Hendra Hemeto, terpilih menjadi Ketua DPD II Partai Golkar Kabupaten Gorontalo Periode 2016–2021. Terpilihnya Hendra Hemeto yang mampu mengalahkan Warsito Somawiyono sebagai kandidat terkuat, karena sebelumnya didukung oleh Pimpinan Kecamatan (PK) sebagai pemilik suara, menjadi menarik dikaji dari perpektif komunnikasi politik. Kemenangan Hendra Hemeto menarik untuk dikaji terutama berkaitan dengan bagaimana pola komunikasi politik diri dan tim kampanyenya dalam MUSDA Partai Golkar. Untuk mendapatkan jawaban dari pertanyaan tersebut, maka data penelitian dikaji secara kualitatif deskriptif, yaitu  mengkonstruksikan realitas dan makna kultural serta fokus pada proses dan peristiwa secara interaktif. Dari hasil analisis, maka dapat dikatakan bahwa keberhasilan Hendra Hemeto tidak lepas dari pengelolaan komunikasi politik yang baik terutama oleh tim kampanye dirinya

    Political socialization was conducted by Electoral Committee as an attempt to foster public participation in the election of integrity. However, some factors are impeding public participation which needs to be overcome by the electoral committee. Therefore, innovative model of political socialization is needed to improve the quality of future election in Indonesia. Qualitative method is employed in this study to investigate the role of current political socialization and to find out an innovative way which should be undertaken by electoral committee to foster public participation in the election.

    This research is motivated by the condition of Bandung as the locus of research addressing the issue of waste, that is quite crucial, even Bandung has ever dubbed as “the city of pig” and “the city of waste”. The efforts to deal with the waste have been tried since the previous Mayor with radical way and that was by changing the viewpoints of waste by viewing the waste as valuable resources. But this effort was been deadlocked and even causing a con ict. Eventhough the deroutineness efforts on waste management has not been fully crystalized, basically the Mayor is on progress preparing more adequate capital and supporting structure. The Mayor makes as if the deradicalization efforts is a strategy to form capitals as a mean for real deroutineness waste management. This aims to get resources from the structure traces that he’s been created, in the form of public support that will help to have the postponed radicalization of waste agenda, which the real radicalization objective is essentially a clean city with modern waste management through the use of technology. This phemenon has marked that the reproduction af a new structure is a long and complicated process and requires a lot of precondition to reach the deroutineness goal.

    Indonesia’s geographical conditions that sourrounded by ocean should be considered as an added value for maritime diplomacy for the sake of the development of Indonesia. Therefore, in terms of geoculture, Maritime Diplomacy should be taken into account as one of the main pillars to build maritime security in Indonesia including the use of maritime diplomacy in response to security threats, so that the defense capabilities will be gradually improved. This article will examine the importance of organizing Indonesia’s maritime sector regarding the vision of the Global Maritime Fulcrum (GMF) in order to see the strengths and weaknesses of Indonesian Navy’s capabilities as an instrument of Indonesia’s Maritime diplomacy to support the development of maritime security. This article also argued that the most important in Indonesia’s Maritime Diplomacy is that Indonesia is capable to guarantee maritime security for all stakeholders regionally and globally. Indonesia needs to improve management and expand promotion for all trading ports available, namely Jakarta and Surabaya as well as other ports as a hub of global maritime prospects. By enhancing maritime safety and security, various international cooperation will be maintained and pro table for Indonesia.

In the neo modernism discourse, the phenomenon of religious exclusivity becomes a very important study. Exclusive theology is used by some hard-line Islamic groups to judge other religions or other Islamic groups that are not inline with Islam that they believe to be the real truth. Neo modernism evolved to respons this religious exclusivity and the religious inclusivity comes to make a new discourse on Islam which has the main idea of an understanding of the universal message delivered by God not only to one particular religion but also to other religions in the scriptures each. The efforts to avoid subjectivity of religion and promote objectivity in the social sphere in Nurcholish Madjid’s thought will not reduce the religious existence, but will make it more effective and elegant can also be easily accepted by modern society without suspicion
